Unfortunately it takes a lot longer than 20 minutes. Liberating when you get the hang of it though. :o
I literally meant the first part up until the big rotating thing like a minute in to the game. Obnoxious (but not impossible  ).
If it's any consolation, DOJ's chain timing is an asshole. It takes a long time to get a feel for how to switch between shot and laser to keep it from suddenly breaking. Once you get it, it becomes quicker and easier to piece the rest of it together. Unfortunately the timing can be slightly different between WL and BL versions depending on how much you rely on hypers to bridge.

dfk 1.5

literally lost the 2-ALL for the 6th time now because the second life is seemingly impossible to get without having to chain (or I only get a few chains right so I always end up in the 80-90 oku range)
A++ boss design in the second loop too
one hit while you are in hyper and might as well as bomb 4 more times because your entire strategy goes to hell

I hope you're not insinuating that's a bad thing.

It's called a score extend, not a survival extend.

Could you now tell us why do you expect the game to let you win without you doing anything?

After you tell me why this is the only cave game that refuses to cough up the second extend after 50 minutes of survival playing

Maybe because it's the only one where "survival playing" includes getting hit over 30 times.

Except, if your good enough you can get it before the stage 2 boss.

Here's a video of getting a massive chain that gets you the first extend at the stage 1 mid-boss. I'm not sure what the conditions are for getting so much flak from the tanks at the beginning, though.
So, are we expected to turn our TV on its side?!

Destroy enemies on screen as soon as possible, all the time.

Am I alone in thinking DFK chaining is harder?

I haven't played DFK, but I thought it only slowly decremented your chain, Mushihimesama style, rather than instantly dropping it to zero if you broke it?

It works like that initially, but the way you actually score is by pumping the chain up past certain values to increment a multiplier. That multiplier is only active when you're sitting on a full hyper stock, at which point your chain behaves as it does in DDP and DOJ.

What the fuck should I do when I hit a point where I just get worse on every credit with a game?

Of my last 15 Ketsui credits, literally 11 ended with a stage 1 death, and two of the remaining didn't make it out of stage 2. None made it to stage 4. Yesterday looked similar. Compared to 48 hours ago, where literally nearly all of my credits made it to the second half of stage 4. Every time I play it, my consistency drops more and more and more, and it's pissing me the fuck off.

Put the game down for a while. Go play something else.

Play a couple of full runs with the other ship.

This. Also, I find taking a break of a day or two sometimes helps for some reason.

Wow, holy crap that worked! Hell, I even made it to the 5th stage for the first time with the other ship! Thanks!

Now I'm wondering if I should switch more long-term. Despite making it further, my score was utter crap (about 46 million, haha).

How do you dodge E3's attacks in JSS Special Mode? I just got there with 11 spare lives with the default ship and managed to game over on the second phase.

Still here now and again.

Haven't played a shmup for 2-3 weeks and coincidentally my stress levels have gone right down.

I kind of miss playing them but you can't win. If you play them with any seriousness and structure with the intention of getting better and clearing them then the end result is always massive stress-outs.
To go "full-Plank" - colloquial - To experience disproportionate levels of frustration as a result of resistance to completing a task. Those who go "full-Plank" very rarely recover.

So, don't play them without the intention to win. Don't play with any intention (and expectation) at all, and just play those games. For the fun of it.
