not seen the review text myself but apparently theres some pretty bad load times (even if installed to the HDD).

I guess they might have cocked something up but , yeah, i'll guess we'll see next week.

Shooting Love 8,7,7,7
Dodonpachi Black Label 8,7,6,6

hmmm, i'll wait until i play both but Famitsu hasn't been a good review source in quite some time!
Yeah that is totally insane. Even if the load times are awful (which I'm praying they aren't), Shooting Love is some hot garbage.

Ok, scan here:

As anyone who speaks Japanese can read, these idiots are just whining about the difficulty! Yes, the guy who gave it an 8 complains about the loading times, fair enough that might be a problem. There's also someone who mentions that you have to reselect your ship/pilot every time you do stage select (jeez...really a big deal?).

They also whine about there not being much new from the PS2 version (yeah except online leaderboards, replays etc.), and no new modes besides X mode.

Lame. I'm still pretty hyped.

Why all the Shooting Love hate? I hope you guys didn't just play it like once or twice and write it off, the skills test is a ton of fun and addicting as hell if you get into it. That with online leaderboards will probably guarantee many hours of play, and the other games should also be a good distraction.

Regardless, I always said Famitsu reviews sucked, especially for shooters. I remember everyone defending them when I said that around the time of the Otomedius review, but now that it's a game people like they start to see the light!

Oh well, it was stupid as hell for them to launch the same day. They're just going to cut into each others sales. I'll be getting both games, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of people who have to choose one or the other.

Even with the new 360 mode that's supposed to be easier? I guess they just want the game to hand them victory on a silver platter like so many others seem to these days ..

Then again DOJ is still one of the hardest games ever made IMO.

BTW, for that link you need to copy/paste it, or it gives you a 403 forbidden error. I uploaded a smaller, cropped version to ImageShack. http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/3073/famitsuballsej5.jpg

Fuck'em most of the time. I rarely read the mags anymore, and actually tend to ignore the numbers that are with reviews. The text is all that matters to me. That said, I hope 5PB's port of DOJ BL Ex is on par with Arika's work on PS2 DOJ.

As for the difference in numbers, I wonder if this has something to do with DOJ being an older title now (2003). Could that have tilted the reviewers a bit this time?

Hopefully Cave does a version of Daifukkatsu with an HD mode ala Death Smiles.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Oh wow, it's kind of a daifukkatsu mix. X mode (or is it just Piper?) should be real interesting.

I dont know why video game magazines still use the score system to rate the overall game. They should give the pros and cons and then at the end of the review express there opinion if the game is worth buying or renting based off of the price and what the game has to offer.

It's kind of hard for them for them to be impartial when their money comes from what they're judging. It's a joke how they've bastardized the five star system:

1-5: They didn't pay us any money
6: 1
7: 2
8: 3
9: 4
10: 5~

The most disgusting thing I ever saw in that business was the US PC Gamer's review of Hellgate: London.

Frankly that green hyper looks bad but X mode should still be really enjoyable.

The difficulty shouldn't be a surprise since anyone who's played DOJ knows, it's one damn tough game and easily the toughest of the Dodonpachi games. At least IMO. I'm just hoping it sells well enough to maybe have them port over Muchi Muchi Pork and Daifukkatsu.

Even though it's not "real" it will be fun to 1CC that mode. I never quite got the clear on DOJ. After breaking 100 million I drifted away from the game but it's always been one of my favorites. It's a bit like Ikaruga for me now, where I love the game to death but I can't stand trying to relearn my chains again. I guess I have to cash in some hardcore points, but the bonus modes might be only things that could get me back to playing it again. Got my J-360 on the way none the less, and there's no way I could pass up this port.

Anyway, I'm hoping I can actually 1cc DOJ now. My best is 49 mill on stage 5, but I usually get crushed half way through.

A bullet canceling mode...? Mh, don`t know what to think of that, I wasn`t too fond of it in Dai Fukkatsu.
But what the hell, it`s a bonus mode so who am I to complain...

You're definitely going to 1000/1000 it, as will anyone who puts a bit of time into it. People will realize how pretty quick.

Wait, wait! So this new character's regular shot is a full strength hyper which never ends (as in no power ups, and massively strong), no rank increase, additional hyper icons coming out every 5 seconds that can put ship into invincibility mode?

FAIL

Sounds like a perfect way to make the game more accessible to new players to me. Nobody says you have to use this new character. If it makes the game too easy for you, use one of the other characters.

Obviously you haven't played the excellent Arika port, which has a practice mode where beginners can tweak everything from level, number of ships, number of hypers, rank, even no bullets mode. But thats just it, its a practice mode (actually I think called "simulation mode") not a real mode of the game. This neutered XB360 port is a joke.

I have owned the PS2 port since it was released. Maybe they just decided to take a different (less convoluted) approach to making the game more accessible with this new version.

I'll admit the game is inaccessible to beginners, but this mode seems written specifically for game reviewers.
