I don't have a functioning arcade stick any more (picking a new one up after thanksgiving), but I'm assuming one such as the real arcade pro ex-se is useless in arrange 360 mode due to there only being one stick?

yeah I guess you can say that.

But it's interesting to play it with only one stick. It sometime gets frustrating though because you have to "throw" your shikigami in certain areas. whether you like playing on one stick or two is up to you.

Question regarding guwange achievment defeating guwange-sama without being hit

I got hit a few times before i faced Guwange sama(baby face) and i used a few bombs on the baby..and then i finish it off with a straight shot but i did not unlock the achievement..Am I suppose not to get hit during the entire game to unlock this achievement?

you cant use bombs against the last bosses in addition to not getting hit

You don't need to no miss the whole game, you just need to no miss the boss.

Also, the final achievement (which is the only one I'm lacking) requires you to kill the TLB without getting hit or using bombs. Hope you're a big fan of fireballs with huge hitboxes.

That isn't what I was trying to do. I was defending my viewpoint that 360 Arrange mode in Guwange is "retarded as hell". I'm not trying to convince anyone else that their perspective is wrong.
and keep on churning out rebuttal after rebuttal while the rest us are actually making constructive conversation.
Saying the exact same goddamn thing about the lack of 4:3 support, again and AGAIN and AGAIN is constructive conversation? That's what half the posts in this thread are and the only "constructive" action has been done by the people who contacted Cave about the problem.
Speaking of which, I think there are some health items
You need health items in 360 Arrange?

You get lots of coins for collecting health items at max health in all modes, he was probably referring to that considering how risky it is to do that part without bombing.

Actually, chempop was having trouble with vanilla Stage 6, and wanted to know where health items were. In normal Stage 6, trust me, you need all the health items you can get.

I disagree. I think it appeals both to score hunters and people who don't play shooters often (or at all). It's a great compromise between appealing to a broader audience and keeping hardcore players happy (except for those who care more about survival, but that seems to be a dying breed).

Provided you don't screw up too epically in the first two stage, I'd say the average player would garnish around 4000-5500 coins. It's just a rough estimate though and doesn't really factor in boss milking too much, so don't take my word for it.

I think around 4000-5500 coins by the end of Stage 3 would be a good goal to aim for, though.

Given you no miss + take the food item in stage 3 + milk enemies, 2nd and 3rd boss, you'll be around 19000 at the end of stage 3.

I'm usually around 13000, but 4000-6000 is appropriate for most people.

thx-i managed a score of around 1.5m with a max chain of about 4000 at start st4. I was wondering whether i was missing anything as i saw most people on the scoreboard were getting at least 5m. But i think i just need to work on keeping the chain through to the end 4th/5th stage.

You should not be trying to score until you can play for survival. Guwange is a tough game to survive in, and scoring can be at odds with survival, considering that bombs generally break your chain and there are no score extends. But if you can manage to no-miss through the big statue, then the food should give you a nice bonus. Boss milking should only be done if you can easily 1cc.

Has anyone ever recorded a no-shikigami clear for the arcade game? I've been messing about tonight and made a pretty crazy run through stage 6 using only shot and no shikigami. Just curious if any pros have ever attempted it.

I disagree. I think it appeals both to score hunters and people who don't play shooters often (or at all).
Which is to say it only appeals to extreme score hunters. People who don't play shooters often will not really appreciate a game for its score or survival for that matter. The challenging games which also give you score proportional to your skill are the best games. I can't wait to try out Aki Katana to confirm this fact once more. Anyway, to take your idea to the extreme, just remove dying all together and it'll appeal to people who don't play shooters at all -- for a full 15 minutes. So, I completely agree with Udderdude's comment.
It's a great compromise between appealing to a broader audience and keeping hardcore players happy (except for those who care more about survival, but that seems to be a dying breed).
Gamers with taste are a dying breed in general, however I think you're conflating the developer's actions (to dumb down the games and "compensate" by making them harder to score in) with the existing player's actions (to continue playing the old games ignoring shit like Aki Katana et al.). But yeah, I guess if they stop making good games, good-game gamers[tm] will be a dying breed indeed.

On the subject of scoring in Arrange 360 mode, who the hell is the guy up at 1st place on the XBLA leaderboards with 200 million points? He/she must be insanely good. :o

As for me, I just figured out today that hitting the bats that come around the screen with the shikigami and everything else with the normal shot is key to milking everything for points. So instead of getting the 115 million end-game score that I've been getting lately, I got 130 million. Couldve gotten more but the damn final bosses are still too difficult for me to survive, so I lose a lot of the coin chain that I had.

Anyone feel like starting a private scoreboard for the XBLA Guwange (if there isnt one already, I couldnt see one when I checked last)? The online leaderboard only applies if you have internet access and do online Score Attack, and frankly all of my stuff is with Offline Play.

Be sure to check out the second Silicona guide if you are interested in scoring very well on Arrange 360, as it explains the exact mechanics behind the game... I've got around 150 million a few times with mistakes and very poor planning, but it takes excellent execution to get much further than that, and careful use of your two shots. Actually, the #1 guy doesn't even get most of the coin bonus for health items most of the time, but he makes up for it with superior coin milking, so there's still room for improvement :|

I think this came up on the @Cave_world_en twitter feed about two weeks ago, but there's been absolutely nothing about Guwange since.

Anyone know if Guwange has been a success for Cave? On the one hand, it has stylish art that might be appealing for someone browsing the XBLA shop, but on the other it has complicated mechanics with the Shikigami which would probably throw off and frustrate most novice shmup players. Nothing hasn't been said already about the confusing screen options menu which half of the shmup community even has trouble navigating.

Also curious if that "Fun Guwange News" ever materialized the other week. I'm expecting an iPhone/iPad port in the near future seeing as how DDP-R was a huge success.

The discussion of the value of easy games has been cut starting just after austere's post. You can find it here.
