Atlus. Same as ESPRade.
SCEA are really the ones to blame, it seems.
Unfortunately, I'd say the western gaming public is to blame. Didn't Gradius V only retail for $29.99, and it had polygons.

Konami usually gets extra consideration on pricing for 2D gameplay for some corporate politics reason, but when that happens it's not that much higher than $20 (Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra were $35, Gradius $30)

I really hope Cave stops this tits and ass stuff and makes a game with a more serious look in the future.

Tho i have to say i still would buy it as it prolly is good fun, i just think they are going a bit overboard.

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't mind the T&A stuff at all. It's not that I actually ask for it, but it doesn't really bother me when it's there. I also think that the sensitivity towards the whole issue (starting with the nopan thing which was really obvious only in the Reko figurine and even there only if you looked for it) went a bit overboard lately.

As long as Cave continue putting out quality games I say: Bring on the boobs!

I actually like the games better that way. I prefer cute girls in skimpy clothing to spaceships and airplanes.

I don't mind if it's just one series, but Cave should use it's potential for bigger things.

This is slightly off topic, but on a whim I tried out a shmup that's not often mentioned around here, called "Nostradamus" (by Face, from 1993) in MAME...judging from what I've gathered about PS from what's been posted here, I can't help but wonder if the developers of PS drew at least some inspiration from it. Most notably, like PS, it gives you a very powerful charge shot which can absorb bullets both while it's being charged and when you actually fire it (though the mechanics are a bit different, as you might expect). There's not much in terms of a complex scoring system (though there are invisible items you can shoot and reveal, which increase in value as you collect more of them), and I haven't played enough of it to say what kind of rank system (if any) it has, but as soon as I tried it I immediately thought of some of the PS footage I'd seen...the "full screen vertical" charge shot was especially similar to what I'd seen in one of the PS videos. Anyway, I just figured I'd mention that, off the cuff...

In slightly more relveant news, if I interpret the Cave page correctly, the "Shasta" figure comes out tomorrow...also, Stage 2 info's been posted.

Is there any video footage besides the offical trailer on the net? Anyone? The trailer itself doesn`t exactly give any impression on the gameplay mechanics. I`d love to see more from this game! :D

I have had footage on gamengai for months now. I've got a link to the videos I took at the AOU Show, in the Japan 2006 Winter report. Look around - pretty easy to find.

Nice selection of ladies there but none of them hold a candle to Koyori.

Also maybe I should have played Ibara before commenting.

There was a strategy guide here for a brief time but the url is dead:

http://kudzilla.info/game/pink/

Another webpage also said there were videos on the above link, but when it the link was active I couldn't find any.

This page is current and has some nice videos:

I'd wager that most of the inspiration for PS came from Summer Carnival 92' Recca (for Famicom).

Hmm, I've never played that one...what elements from it do you think the PS programmers "borrowed?"

I see a huge amount of smileys on that page, plus a lot of ????????? since I refuse to activate japanese fonts as long as I can`t read them (which is forever), so where should I click? I have no idea, and I tried. Often. Thanks in advance!

I still don't understand how this game has any sort of challenge to it. You are invincible during the charge attack, which you can basically use..ALL THE TIME, and just the normal charge up stops normal bullets in front of you.

all files are zipped (LZH), so you need a program to extract.

Nothing borrowed, perhaps, since Recca was also done by Yagawa. The biggest carryover is the permanent charge bomb, I guess. I haven't paid much attention to Ibara -- or even Raizing stuff through MAME -- so I can't say a lot more.

Okay, after figuring out that I can`t acess the files via the web translator page  Firefox downloaded lzh files that were about 7 kb big. Using Internet explorer, it suddenly worked. Thanks a bunch!

Okay, judging from the videos, if you play this game and other people hear it they think you would watch some kind of porn (cheesy music and moaning girls). I don`t get that charge shot/bullet eating thing either. I heard there were different kinds of bullets, some of them can be cancelled and other not.

I guess this is just like Mars Matrix or Ikaruga, where if you don`t know how the game works you think that you`re invincible. But this small clips don`t really excite me, to say the least.

The player in the videos hardly seems to do any damage to the bosses using those charge style attacks.

Maybe a more difficult approach is needed to get a decent score...

That's the point. The essence of scoring in Ibara Pink isn't full on destruction as in its prequel, it's in bullet eating and converting particular attacks and enemy patterns into point items and powerups. To that effect, timing out bosses appears to be mandatory to getting a high score here, as you're aiming to convert all of the boss's major attack waves into lotsa tasty points.

Ibara Pink seems to emphasise the importance of bullet pattern study more than any other shmup I've seen previously.

Try Internet Explorer if you`re on Windows, my Firefox messed it up - and be sure to "Save target as..." with right click since the site says something that the links don`t show anythink if you left-click them. Be sure to use the original link to the site, not the translated one. I made all those mistakes so you don`t have to

Does this mean that there`s not so much a real threat in this game but it`s more about converting as many bullets as possible? The ships in the vids don`t seem to dodge but more like "harvesting". Mmmh. Weird. Unusual. Many of the boss patterns seem not to be dodgeable at all.

I have a funny feeling that survival will be a lot harder than it seems based on just watching the short superplays.
