I've really been itching to play Last Of Us. In 2013 I dug the hell out of games that emphasized an interesting experience. Puppeteer, Gone Home, and Papers Please were all really enjoyable.
As far as more "traditional" gaming goes I loved Mario 3D World and Metal Gear Rising.
What's shocking is the amount of people in this thread hellbent on reinforcing their opinion as right through other peoples' opinions. "This game is more enjoyable than that one and here are people who agree" stops people from wanting to share their positive experiences with a game because it's a big bucket of shame.
Like what you like.
Game of the year 2013: Verdict is in
Re: Game of the year 2013: Verdict is in
Their is no best game of the year for 2013, I would say
Portal
Portal 2
Vulgarr the Viking
....................
The last of us was terrible. They have Resident Evil Graphics, and you barely can see what is going on.
The entire game has generic scenes, from films. The entire game, your buying this game to see a scene in a movie you was banned from seeing as a kid. The script is like a bad fem-naszi commercial.
The whole entire objective was a waste of time, and thank gosh the older used female lead, got taken out, or else she might have executed you.
In between the gameplay is just running, doing actions. Their are no monsters, most enemies are blind humans, you mostly dodge. Then some standard gunplay.

I haven't been here long but every post I've seen by RegalSin has managed to shock and surprise in ways I didn't imagine possible.
Re: Game of the year 2013: Verdict is in
Well, you named two games that weren't made in 2013 and spelled the other one wrong. Almost, but good try.

The Last of Us.
So I've been playing the game now for about 7 hours and cannot stop. It may be less of a game in the traditional sense, and more of an interactive story book, but that suits me fine. I'm all for the notion of gameplay mechanics evolving if technology allows such a move.
Whether it's GotY or not, I can't really say. What I will say however is that the game is relentless in driving its hooks into you, and that it holds your attention from the minute you start playing. The story is also really good, and definitely adds to its addictive quality.
I can see as to why people have praised the game, as it's certainly something "new". And in today's AAA gaming industry, "new" is always good.
