It's worth noting that a very early conception of the character was that the Doctor would reveal himself to be a kind of chrono-terrorist who wanted to destroy his planet's future by meddling in the past. Although the idea was shot down by series creator Sydney Newman, there are still echoes of that villainy in the Doctor here.

If you believe time didn't exist before the big bang - then it cant exist after entropy has done its thing either. So lets do a thought experiment: If I get in my Tardis and start travelling forward in time until I hit heat death - do I stop as if crashing into a dead end? What if I decide to just keep going? How do I know that I am still moving forward in time?
Wasn't this exact subject dealt with in the William Hartnell storyline "the Edge of Destruction" or am I getting confused?

Hah, he's going to be a great Doctor.
I'm glad the Smith era is finally over. I don't hate him (and part of the reason for my distaste is for what I consider to be less-than-stellar writing during his era), but I found him far less watchable than "9 or 10", and Capaldi certainly looks interesting. I hope they write well for him.

Here's a question, who's your favourite non-canon Doctor?
Well, there's all the doctors from the Rowan Atkinson special. I am not sure whether I will watch the Peter Cushing ones just for Peter Cushing...it might be a depressing experience, but I'm hopeful.
