I'm starting to not like this forum either, I try to voice (or more like preach) my opinions about how lousy most of the mainstream is and mocking "poser" gamers and trying to defend Nintendo, and I get flamed. This is a forum about old vidoegames that uphold the puriest elements of videogaming: twitch-and-score based shooting fun and yet if you bash Halo even slighty people here are all over your ass. *Sigh.....*
Musn't... bite... must NOT.....
I try to voice (or more like preach)
And there, my friend, lies the problem. I will say no more.

Fine, I'll bite. Call me whatever you want, but I'm going to repeat, more plainly, that my original complaint about name-calling had nothing to do with my user name; I have, so far, only complained about the lack of civility that some users have shown towards each other.

You're not bad at this.

Now, I might be wrong on this, but judging by your posts you've simply misread shiftace's username. If so, read it again letter by letter if necessary until you notice how it isn't shitface.

This is a forum about shmups: past, present and future. Not about old videogames, and surely not about an insane idea as "the purEst" whatever. Also, hate-mongering is part of what's not going well on this forum. If everyone "flames you", maybe there is a reason, and the lunatic comment you've just posted should be a good self-teaching occasion. Do you plan to go on forever with your insane crusade? Do we need, every single time you post, to explain why no one likes your lunatic extremism?

I thought, since it seems like this forum has "only become full of collectholics", that this kind of sectarian thinking was over with shmupsmkII, for instance. If there was something BAD about the old forum, was the degree of preaching to the "return of innocence", or the "Us vs them" threads, or people only writing on off-topic arguments.

For the ones who remember, no, i don't miss Keith McAiken III and Endymion, honestly.

LOL. I've been here for six years. I haven't changed a bit and the forum hasn't changed much either. The alleged "problem" is the same as it is at every forum. Whiners.

What'll they cry about today?

Bolded the reason it's annoying, chief.

Well, that and the fact that you never say anything. Your entire argument it "I liked games more way back when" followed by five paragraphs rephrasing that in various ways, sprinkled with insults towards anyone who might actually enjoy new games. And you do this any time there's a slight mention of mainstream games, and often when there isn't. It's the difference between being a Christian, and being that asshole who somehow ties every single conversation back to Jesus ("yeah, Judy being pregnant is good news, but have you heard the good news about Jesus Christ?"). Even other Christians avoid that guy. You're the gaming version of him.

As for MAME, I use it. I emulate games that are out of print because no money is being withheld from the developers or publishers. If I really love a game, I'll buy it, and if a game is still available on store shelves anywhere, I'll buy it (or rent it, but I won't pirate it).

So, I made up this name several years ago, long before I knew what "shmup" meant. Just thinking it was a little bit clever and that it'd be funny to watch people get all worked up and take the obvious cheap shot any time I get in an argument. And, it is, generally. Although I was starting to get annoyed that the name took over the whole argument this time. Because repeating a label and discarding the rest is an obvious trolling/manipulation technique and no way to hold a reasonable discussion on anything. Or maybe it's humor one step ahead of me.

Not that that's what Pa meant to do, it's just what I assumed.

Edit: On further reflection, the second part of the above paragraph definitely reflects a poor undertstanding of the conversation on my part. It seems I'm not clever enough for this name. I need more practice.

Yes, its called "association".
It can get you killed in real life, and in shmupping, it will do the very same.

Example:
There was a 4 way stop at an intersection here in town years back...now there is a "Stop Light", people still forget its there. (think habbit)

Put it this way, if you can read those misspelled letters, its association.
Think in terms of a shooting game. You see the bullets, you can move around/through em, but are you really seeing whats truley "there".

My advice, use both sides of the brain, because one ain't enough!!!

Oh gosh, I know what you're talking about. As a Christian myself, I can relate to what you're saying. I don't like it when people wear their religion on their sleeves and rub everyone else's noses in it. The same goes for social class, sexuality, career, and anything else I can think of.

As for the topic at hand, I imagine that I may be the type of forum member whose posts people don't care much for. I rarely add much insight into shmupping. I'm just here because I like shmups and classic gaming. At the last AZ shmupmeet I was playing Mushihime-sama on Undamned's PS2. Shearie said something like, "Watching your playing makes me feel confident in my skills." And I was like, "You kow what? I can totally suck at games but I could care less." I'm sure I must be an enigma to guys like Randorama.

Yeah, people can be intolerant of other types of gamers on here and get uppity. Whether it's emulators, FPSes, RPGs, or whatever. Back on the network54 board, I felt like I must keep my interest in Bemani games hidden in the closet. Hey, I have Dance Dance Revolution on my Dreamcast. And my friend just gave me Taiko no Tatsujin for the PS2 a few days ago.

This flame baiting is pretty immature, and as Rando and UD have pointed out, go to the strategy section for in-depth discussions. That's pretty much obvious.

Since we're all discussing the old days of this site, let's all reflect upon Rommel, the ultimate troll, and shudder. Yeesh.

Its ok Greg, I don't mind reading your posts...as long as you ain't creaming over Kermit the Frog!!!

Anywho, the "wearing of the sleeve" can get old...even if you have the right intentions.
People are better off just discussing things, rather than coming across like if they "invented" the subject. (AKA=Jerk)

BTW: Christ is in my heart and soul as well, but I'm not out to save the world, because I know that I alone cannot...

Also Greg, as far as contributing to this site...I feel as though you have done plenty. Even MORE than most here...You have "hosted" at least 2 "ShmupMeets" at your own residence!!! That right there says a whole lot!
Keep em coming! I wish more "Shmup-o's" were that humble!

PS: If I ever show up, just keep a cool place in the fridge for my beer!!!
We'll all have a good time...although I will "own" you at every shmup. :D

It doesn't work for me 100%. The scrambled "completely" in your post had me crossing my eyes for a moment. Guess I'm weirder than I thought, heh.

No, actually one characteristic i have is that i can perfectly understand any kind of gaming style or approach. Among other things, i don't know of any "shmup dojoists" who go around preaching about a game should be played, what should a shmup be about, or pretending that shmups shouldn't have mechanics or any degree of problem-solving aspects. I suck and i can't care less about sucking on many games, but if i like a game, i learn it, i find it funny and rewarding.

Beside that, taiko no Tatsujin rocks

eh, maybe if the word is mono or bysillabic. It doesn't work if you're reading a language you're not too fluent in,too. I'd doubt that a dyslexic wouldn't have any problems, too...etc etc etc

So now it's shit-ace? WTF is wrong with you people? I thought we were supposed to be politer than Prince Charles at tea-time around here and now we got users running around with names like that? This is now the worst forum on the whole internet. I'm going back to the Disney Channel message board forever. Everybody there plays MAME.
