Re: Pink Bullets Zine is finally here! (Pics Inside!)
Any Canadian's receive their copy yet? I'm dying over here from the anticipation!

Re: Pink Bullets Zine is finally here! (Pics Inside!)
It has arrived. PEW! PEW!

Smaller dimensions than I expected, but the quality is great. Can't wait to dig in.

Got mine the other day here, in Indiana. Had to install Windows 8 a few times today (you know, for fun) and read the magazine cover to cover. Nice work!
Making an action platformer with a transforming grappling hook: ChainStaff. Also made a shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, and more .

Very nice, Pyongyang. It feels completely uncommercial and just oozes Passion. Well done.

Re: Pink Bullets Zine is finally here! (Pics Inside!)
Finally got the shiny and distinctive red colored foil embossed envelope in the mailbox today...which could only mean one thing, that an issue of Pink Bullets arrived as promised.
Upon unsealing the envelope, I could tell that PB is, surely, a labor of love indeed. And what's this? The photo inserts in the articles are in glossy full color -- talk about a very high-quality indy published shmup mag. Only if it were possible to do it as a monthly or quarterly issue, that'd be ace in my book.
And for a possible second issue of PB, could the magazine's overall size be larger? I'd be willing to pay more just that option alone.
The PC Engine article on IGS' Violent Soldier (aka Sinistron on the TurboGrafx-16) was a really cool tribute. There are plently of triple-AAA rated PCE shmups worthy of an article spread. How about an article on TTI's swansong shmup title by the name of Magical Chase & a bit of background history of the original PCE MC release from Palsoft & it's U.S. counterpart release?
Or how about including a DVD with some video footage from the various game centers as a bonus swag item? Could be the start of something awesome.
When I stop to think about it, there really hasn't been an all-English produced shmup magazine until the inception of PB #1 and that's the honest truth.
The commercial video game mag of GameFan (back in the year 2000) had an on-going article series dedicated to arcade shmups called "Shooter's Alley" that both American based GamePro & Electronic Game Monthly magazines wouldn't approach with a ten-foot pole even if they wanted to. Such dedicated articles delving into the world of arcade-based shmups is virtually non-existent in today's American video game mags. Understandably, such an audience would be a small hard-core niche group, of course. It's a given, nowadays.
I recall another thread asking shmupper, Dragon1952, if it could be possible to have a monthly shmup magazine. He said that it could be done. It, then, would be a matter of getting the right team of editors, contributing writers, graphic artists, etc. and a willing publisher to pull it off. And not mention some serious monetary funds to pull it off as well...perhaps a kickstarter funding to see it become a reality? Hmmm...

Re: Pink Bullets Zine is finally here! (Pics Inside!)
Thanks PC Engine Fan X! for the great critique! The idea of a DVD is super cool, but it would cause production costs to just spiral way out of control, it just wouldn't be cost-effective. Kind of the same thing with a monthly zine. I have a life outside of gaming and running my blog and doing just the one zine took a lot of time and organisation that I was exhausted by the end of it. A collaboration would be cool, but it may add more stress and complexities having more people involved if you get my point on that front.
However...
The response to volume one has been absolutely mind-blowing. It really has. So much support and so many positive comments from everyone!
I've decided to do a Volume 2. To be released some time in the Summer this year. I have some major feature content already secured for it, and hopefully another original cover by Wil Overton (yet to be confirmed). I'm not suggesting this will be a regular, quarterly zine, but I'm keen to give this thing another go and try and get a second volume out there.
Volume 2 would work on the same principles I set for volume 1. Those being:
A5
28 pages (maybe more) full colour
Non-commercial
Non-profit, break even only
Pre-orders first, if 100 sell then it goes to print
One print run only. When they're gone they're gone.
I hope folks are interested in a volume 2 and I will put out more details over the coming weeks.
Thanks so much everyone!

I can confirm that Wil Overton is on board for volume 2! I'm also planning something 'extra special' for this edition (seeing as it may well be the last. one step at a time and all that...).
