Radiant Silvergun is now fully up and running here at the Galloping Ghost Arcade. We installed brand new Sanwa sticks and buttons for it and its on nice big 25" monitor!
I greatly appreciate all the info and suggestions you guys have given. Its been great having some of you already stop on by too!
Thinking about getting Mars Matrix next...unless I can find an original Darius PCB (its my current Holy Grail that I'm looking for.

oh man... didn't even see the radiant silvergun update. I'm definitely going to have to come in again within the next few weeks - tho I suck at RS.

Oh man, I'm looking at your games list on your website and I'm in love. You have some of my favorite shooters, fighters, and beat em ups.

If only I lived in Illinois or there was an arcade like this here in Cali.

XEXEX is now full up and running at the Galloping Ghost Arcade. It was recommended to me by Martin Alessi (from EGM of long ago). What an awesome game! Interesting about the drastic changes in the different versions. Ours is the "Overseas" version with just the proton shot. Which one do most people prefer more? Lots of players are really getting into it and starting to put up scores.

Metal Black is still seeing a lot of people playing it...a few are going back and forth in the high score area too...most recently Matt Walters set 441,300 and he hasn't been playing it for too long.

Also Pete Hahn has been getting close to finishing the first loop of Salamander 2!

We hold HUGE fighting tournaments here at the arcade that people travel from all over to play in...would anyone be up for a Shmups tournament if we held one here? We always do cash prizes and stuff and they are usually a lot of fun. Please let me know what the interest level is and I'll set something up!

Just wanted to get in here and give you guys some kudos.
Seeing your level of commitment and enthusiasm is inspiring.
If there's anywhere aside fron Japan that this would work i believe it to be the States.
Will definitiely drop by if i'm ever in the area

Tournaments are a great idea. Just be aware that most western shmuppers are lazy ass SOBs so getting a lot of entries might be tough.
Hoping you get your own thriving scene of up'ncomers. :)

Thank you for that....we are really trying to build up our shooter base.

Regarding Xexex, which version do people tend to prefer more?

Japanese version. The Euro/World one has a lifebar and all the weapons are gone and replaced with the Round Laser.

Man, Xexex has been owning me the last few times I've tried it at the arcade. I figured coming off of Metal Black it wouldn't be so bad. So far I'm only up to level 2 and I've already put more than a few credits in...

Ha, I was playing some MK right behind you while you were playing that day. Kept making runs back to DOJ every half hour to get slaughtered.

Good job on the 1CC

We just got in the CPS2 for MARS MATRIX (US) today, and I just ordered the original DARIUS PCB (can't wait to put that one in the 3 screen cabinet)!!! Plus I'm watching Raystorm & Progear PCBs. Lots more SHUMPs will be going up soon here at the GALLOPING GHOST ARCADE.

Loving the hell out of mars matrix at the arcade. What a unique game. I'm only at the point where I'm getting just into level 4 with a shit score, but I can't wait to develop this one.

This place looks amazing. If this were anywhere near me I'd definitely be all over it.

Anyway, I didn't really read everything in here, but my only advice is to keep the difficultly setting on the shooters at default. I'm sure it's been mentioned a few times before so I won't get into it. Aside from that, I do recommend enabling hidden ships/characters (when available), as many players look for these on the regular.

Good luck.

I can't wait for my next visit to Illinois. My last trip, I was in Chicago for a friend's wedding and I planned on heading to Brookfield specifically for Galloping Ghost, but I couldn't find the time in the middle of wedding madness.
I definitely want to go back there and really have a chance to look around, enjoying all the sites like Galloping Ghost! :D

Ghostlord,

I'd just like to say, congrats on living my dream.

I've long said that, should I win the lottery, I'd do EXACTLY THIS.

Okay, not exactly this. I'd have some pretty strict entry conditions. Certainly nothing so straightforward as "give me some cash" (wouldn't need, it see?); I won't go into them here, but at least one of them involves a dance fucking dance fucking revolution machine, and a sledgehammer. They're pretty fucked up. My entry requirements. Even I can see this.
(Wouldn't stop me implementing them, mind.)

And you actually managed to turn this into a viable business?

Ultimate respect, my friend.

Mars Matrix is proving to be a real slow burn for me. Every time I play, I appreciate it more, but I still wish it had a second button so the reflect mechanic could be instant. I want to push for the counterstop, though.

the developers didn't want it to be treated like a bomb, they wanted you to have to anticipate, and think about when to use it. the delay forces you to do that.

That's great to hear G-Darius is up & running at your arcade, Ghostlord. Count me in as a loyal fan of the G-Darius PCB experience not to be missed. The tagline of "You will see the creation of new lives" rings so true.

For a long time, I had the version 1 PCB revision of G-Darius and last year, recently did a simple 2 eprom swap upgrade to version 2 and it's quite a stellar shmup with the cool upgraded deal + improved three button layout scheme compared to the older two-button scheme that version 1 uses. Makes the PSX version of G-Darius look like child's play -- still impressive nevertheless that Taito managed to squeeze the entire G-Darius gaming engine into a single game disc though. It's jaw-dropping to watch the opening intro and endings rendered in glorious real-time polygonal graphics any ol' day with the PCB version (whereas with the PSX port, they're presented as FMV clips at best).

We just added RAY STORM to the arcade floor at the GALLOPING GHOST ARCADE. Very fun game! We still have the original Darius to go get soon and we hoping to get Darius Burst Another Chronicle soon too! Still everyone has been playing a lot of G-Darius, Mars Matrix & Matt Walters has been playing a lot of Metal Black...trying to reclaim the high score.
