Currently at the beginning of disc 3 and I'm loving it! This will get a lot of playtime on my ipod in the coming weeks.
Though for me personally I wouldn't mind if some of the tracks had a little more punch in them, ie more and heavier bass.

Now eagerly awaiting the shipping of the physical product to get my hands on the USB stick with the original recordings :)

Disc 4 is my favourite right now, the orchestral arrangment of Turrican 2 is amazing, sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it.
And then the fantastic Super Turrican 2 soundtrack sounds exactly like I think a project like this should sound. Heavy bass, use of many different instruments, e-guitars incorporated in a good way (not like many japanese soundtracks), just perfect. This reminds me that I think Super Turrican 2 deserves a lot more credit than it maybe ever received, for it was ahead of it's time and the competition back then. Chris Huelsbeck tried to close the gap between videogame soundtracks and big orchestral movie soundtracks with this one and he may be the first who succeeded in it. Ironically if you read the credits in the booklet the Super Turrican 2 tracks were arranged by Fabian DelPriore and not Chris Huelsbeck.

I think I prefer Vol 1 the most, they're the most radical overhauls I think.

Physical copies have shipped, got mine already (Norway). Three days shipping from Germany isn't bad.

Got mine, too.

Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed by the package, it being a simple multibox with no extra frills. I'd have at least expected an additional cardboard sleeve, and the mockups on the original kickstarter page even suggested there would be individual jewelcases for each CD inside said sleeve. Not that it subtracts much from the overall quality and the music is as good as anyone could wish for, but still. (I work with CD manufacturers, so I know that what I consider the prettier configuration wouldn't really have costed a lot more, so going for the least expensive option seems a little cheap.) It's cool to have a signed copy of this, nonetheless.

Btw, I do enjoy the original recordings on the USB stick a lot. They almost sound "punchier" than the remixes at times. Great stuff.

He asked to be deleted when I asked him to use a valid email address since it was causing server bounces.

I've got a spare vinyl and a spare box set incoming due to logistical problems with the framed posters. Will be for sale when the second box set arrives.

Due to OCD-ish reasons I *HATE* cardboard sleeves or cases. Was pretty happy they were absent.

What's on the vinyl? From the description on the kickstarter page I assume the track on the A side is one of the original recordings from the USB stick, but what is up with the "special retro" sounding B side?

On the B-side is a remixed track by Yuzo Koshiro. If you bought the Vinyl edition you could also download the song in mp3 format I think.

My copy showed up the other day. Had the kids jamming to disc 1 tonight. They really liked it! (and I was a little surprised they would) After I described the game they were really excited to see it in action. We played it after dinner, and unfortunately it's still a little too hard core for the oldest one (6). He can beat New Super Mario Bros Wii, but original Turrican... I kinda forgot how much they expected out of you (which I always found fun, but was older when it came out). Like how right off, in Stage 1, if you don't go to the left and get the 1UP and all the power-ups, it's a lot tougher moving forward. Maybe in a few years I can get them to revisit it...
Making a run 'n' gun with a transforming grappling hook: ChainStaff. Also made a shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, and more .

Is that, by any chance the same track that's featured as a "hidden" (sort of) track #18 on the first disc? From your description of the vinyl B-side it sounds like that could be it, and that they decided to include it as a bonus in the regular TSA after all.

If that's not the same track, what is that "hidden" track? There are no credits for it in the booklet.

No, the hidden track is called 'Loader Medley'. And I have no idea what's the reason to include it as 'hidden track' and why it's not in the credits.

I finally received my TSA package today. Plugged the USB stick in my computer right away only to discover the tracks from Turrican 1 & 2 C64 version are missing! Well that's a downer as they are very different to the Amiga ones. Bit disappointed now :(

Ramiro Vaca did those though. And they were ripped straight from the Transformers the movie soundtrack.

Antares, this is strictly a Huelsbeck music project.

The music you are looking for can be found here:

http://vgmdb.net/album/5793

and can be purchased here for five pounds:

Binary Zone

:)
Herr Schatten wrote:Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed by the package, it being a simple multibox with no extra frills. I'd have at least expected an additional cardboard sleeve,
A sleeve was indeed planned, but was ultimately left out due to damage concerns. Imagine replacing via mail a hundred of them because OCD people can't have a dent or a tear in their cardboard.

Koshiro was asked to contribute with an arrangement, but he offered Chris to choose between two he did. Ultimately Chris convinced him to let them publish both. They are both on the A side of the vinyl. I really like the Retro one, sounds very personal and close to Koshiro's style, at some point it almost sounds like a Bare Knuckle piece.
The "Chiptune" one on the other hand... Well, let's say that it remembers you just how much better the Amiga was in the audio department back then.

Side B has straight amiga recordings.

And among them how not to enjoy the grittiness of the Megadrive recordings...

I knew they weren't done by Chris and I didn't expect them to be on the CDs. But still for completions sake I somehow expected that they will be on the USB stick. After all this should be the definitive Turrican Soundtrack collection.

Cool, I didn't know such a thing existed. I think I should get it :)

Yeah, the Amiga music sounds much better indeed. On the other hand Mega Turrican was so much better on the technical side and gameplaywise. It was always hard to decide which version to play, better music or better game overall? ;)

And Turrican, can you clarify if the Yuzo Koshiro tracks are on the Vinyl only or do they indeed exist in mp3 form for backers?
They aren't available to buy as downloads, are they?

All who pledged for a vinyl also got a download code for a FLAC / mp3 version of it. But I guess it'll be made available to purchase at bandcamp at some point.

Are they really all that different? I can't say I'm all that familiar with T3, only having played Mega extensively, but I always thought that the games were identical except for the Amiga game's superior sound and the Mega Drive game's superior visuals.

That said, I think what Hülsbeck squeezed out of the Mega Drive's sound chips is quite a feat, regardless of the Amiga versions sounding better.

They aren't that different. My experience is the opposite of yours - I played Turrican 3 back in the days (I stubbornly refused to let the amiga die, and when I jumped on the console bandwagon in '94, I sided with Nintendo), and did get Mega only later, long after the megadrive's end.

I wasn't too troubled with T3's limited colour palette (in a couple of occasions it works in its favor) or the lack of some backgrounds. And with a multibutton pad it plays just as well on the Amiga.

Agree that Mega sounds indeed very good for a MD.

News from Huelsbeck. He has some physical stock left (around 250 units) of the 4CD boxset which will be made avalable at $80 plus shipping.

Also, the Maxi single has now a digital counterpart that can be purchased here:
http://chrishuelsbeck.bandcamp.com/albu ... t-tsa-maxi

(but owning the actual vinyl is just awesome)

If you loved the Suite on TSA disc 4, you cannot miss this one.
