Bullets are a different resolution than sprites. Other than that, looks great.

Xbox Indie next :P
Yeah, that green square is just a place-holder graphics, it will be replaced by a proper sprite.

And while we thought about trying to release stuff for xblig, I recently found out the service doesn't exist here in Brazil.

That is a bit sad. But PC is a good platform for Indie games too, there's alot of Indie game related sites too :D
But the thing that matters the most is that the kids enjoy doing the game and that they feel that they accomplish making a cool game!

Fixed.

To be more precise, they look inconsistent compared to the rest of the 'low-res' graphics seen on the screen.

Notice the bullets in the first screens are different from the last screens. Those are place-holder graphics too.

I should have kept this thread updated...

Look what those kids showed me today, I was kinda surprised :)

This is the game they are working on today. One of the kids left the school, as his family moved to other city, but it seems they are still working together, even if they are far apart from each other.

I didn't expect to see the monitor Tated, I entered the classroom, and the monitor was already like that :D

I kept smiling the whole time while reading this thread, I was being bullied when I was 14-15 for liking shmups, and now I've been studying programming to make my own shmup someday. None of my friends knew about shmups existing when I came to my school, and now everyone has played ketsui and DOJ for at least once. There are few ones who are more interested than others, and one of them is probably the most talented programmer in my class.

Actually, I started a shmup-project with him (I mostly tell him what to do and why) and we even got help from my girlfriend who pulled this off literally in a minute:

She could easily do pretty damn good-quality graphics, but she doesn't like drawing anything that isn't 'kawaii' so...
The whole project is pretty much forgotten for now, but we'll continue in the future... maybe

I feel your pain, brother. I, too, was picked on by antishmupites as a youth, and the scars remain. All those sleepless nights I spent at my local Battered Nerd's Shelter haunt me to this day.

What kind of reasons are their to hate on someone for liking shmups? Is it because their not call of duty or something?

Most of the time the hatred comes from being brought up in a shmupaphobic household where their parents tell them that people that play shmups are lazy, good-for-nothing tricksters that steal jobs away from hard-working, honest FPS players. Some religions also advocate hatred against shmuppers and lead to people protesting Shmup Pride rallies carrying signs with hurtful messages like "God Hates Shmups".

Makes me happy to see that they still going at it.
Once in a while I see that I have the first Awsome Blue Guy on my HDD and I think what happend to the game.
It's real cool to see that they still working at it and I know the pic is small but it seems really "professional" made.
And that they Tated the moniter was just too cool!

Tell them to keep going, maybe they are the next Cave, G.rev or Milestone or something :P

That looks really nice. I'd love to have a go at it. Hopefully they'll let us play their game once it's finished?

In my household, this is true, except subtract the word "shmup"
