MAME shmups improvements/fixes ideas
Re: MAME shmups improvements/fixes ideas
Thanks for your great work!!
Your shmupmame is very good.
Here are some my comments.
1) Please backport the Psykyo games (e.g. Strikers 1945 III) with latest driver.
Especially playing Strikers 1945 III, old bug ("No layers ... " sentence comes out at stage 8 boss - big bee) happens.
This bug disappeared at latest mame version (I cannot remember exact mame version where the bugs was fixed).
2) "Shienryu" by Warashi doen't work properly, the game cannot inherit 'default game option'.
You can understand when you play the game "Shienryu".

Re: MAME shmups improvements/fixes ideas
Why not someone put two more directories in ShmupMAME, called "Lagless Shmups at 1 FPS" and "Lagless Others at 1 FPS"? After I got experienced with ShmupMAME, I have realized that 1 FPS of lag means about 0.7 times slower movement. And that anything with 2 FPS actually is not worth playing, at least not for serious.
By the way, I think that games which have more than 1 FPS of lag, should not be putted into the lagless directories.

Re: MAME shmups improvements/fixes ideas
Two ideas that would, at least in my eyes, definitely improve shmupmame.
1. Allow save states that are more than one character long. Just increasing it to two characters would be a huge increase in the number of save slots available for a single game.
2. Add the option to display the user input from the game controller. I forget where exactly, but I have seen this feature on another version of Mame. Basically, it is a bar at the bottom of the screen that performs like close captioning, where each button you push during gameplay is displayed. Not sure how useful this would be, but perhaps occasionally it would come in handy.
3. Release a version 2.2b that has custom buttons. Shmupmame 2.2 has the Autofire option, but without a custom button, its impossible to set your joystick to have both a regular and auto-fire version for a single input .

Well, custom buttons where you can have rapid fire, would be nice. Doesn't seem the custom buttons work in the current one.

Re: MAME shmups improvements/fixes ideas
shmupmame 3.0b has custom buttons that work great; they're perfect for setting a separate joystick button to auto-fire alongside the regular controls. My problem with Shmupmame 3b is that I can't figure how to display games in their correct aspect ratio and also get the scanlines to maintain their proper appear... For games with pixel aspect ratios of anything other than 4:3, I use stretch using hardware to , but then the scanlines start to look like shit, they are all crunched together and spaced unevenly

Ah I see. I didn't realize about the keyboard thing. Got them to work.
WELL then, I would really like another frame removed from Raizing games, if humanly possible.
Also, the scanlines and other filters from the newest version of MAME would be really nice too. The scanlines in it, look a good bit better than the ones in the current shmup MAME.

Re: MAME shmups improvements/fixes ideas
Replying to an ancient post, yes, but this deserves a mention every time I can -- use 0.128 for Radiant Silvergun. Earlier is glitcher, later is extremely slow [and some later versions have additional glitches]. 0.128 runs fullspeed with almost no frameskip most of the time [except in Stage 5, then it starts to chug] on my crappy laptop with a 2.1GHz Pentium Dual Core.RNGmaster wrote:Radiant Silvergun doesn't emulate correctly - it runs at about 1/3 speed, the music is warped, and some graphics are missing. Can I fix this myself, or will this need to be handled in the next version?
edit: or at least it used to, running 0.128 in Wine, and the latest [Wine] update broke lots of stuff [it is slower and sound is broken ;-;], on average a frameskip of 5 now -_-

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
Re: MAME shmups improvements/fixes ideas
Are there any plans to add highscore support to shmupmame 3.0? Or maybe there's a menu option I'm missing?

Hiscore support works in v3.0b for me by having the hiscore.dat file. Unless there's some kind of MAME-version compatibility bull I've forgotten about the latest version which can be found easily via Google should do the trick.Moniker wrote:Are there any plans to add highscore support to shmupmame 3.0? Working savestates for toaplan2 games would be the best thing ever.
Also, sound breaks in Sengoku Blade randomly at 1-5 (I think it happens when there's an explosion) and always at upper 1-6, just after you kill the group of six mini-Katanas.

I think this issue is unique to Shmupmame. Recent versions of Wolfmame and Mame32 Plus don't seem to have any audio problems with Blade.Hagane wrote:Also, sound breaks in Sengoku Blade randomly at 1-5 (I think it happens when there's an explosion) and always at upper 1-6, just after you kill the group of six mini-Katanas.

That doesn't work for pgm games (ketsui/galuda/doj) does it?BPzeBanshee wrote:Hiscore support works in v3.0b for me by having the hiscore.dat file. Ketsui works for me, I tested it just now.AntiFritz wrote:That doesn't work for pgm games (ketsui/galuda/doj) does it?BPzeBanshee wrote:Hiscore support works in v3.0b for me by having the hiscore.dat file.
