I've found that if you frequent a store and the people there get to know the type of gamer/customer you are they start skipping the "used car salesman" garbage, either due to the fact that come to respect you a bit more than the usual clueless types they deal with or else they just figure out that they're wasting their time.

The newest Gamestop in my area has some really nice workers who I can BS with to no end about JRPGs, Atlus releases, etc...not so much shmups (though all of them know enough to point me towards Death Smiles, which is kind of nice). What makes or breaks the experience is whether or not the workers know anything about any genre of Japanese gaming. The ones who really suck are the American bro-gamers who only seem to know about stuff like Killzone and Mass Effect.

Dignity means nothing in the face of the Bacterion threat!...especially when you get a chance to resist them at a reduced price.

I really wanted a copy that had a case and a manual, and I'm glad I picked it up. The manual has some great stuff in it (including a page that explains the arsenal of powerups in Gradius III and a list of all the levels/bosses). The last one I found was a loose disc residing in one of those yellow envelopes in Gamestop's slag heap. If I saw another good copy of the PSP collection, I'd probably pick that up also. I hate those ugly fucking generic Gamestop packages.

On more than one occasion, I've used Gamestops to refurbish my game library. If you ever have a shitty copy of any game they carry used (even with cases/bonus discs/manuals/etc..), just buy the used one and use the receipt you get to return the shitty one from home in an empty case. They never ever give a fuck.

Still, I planned on owning the JP Version first.

I quit buying at the local stores because of this. Completely ridiculous.

One of the Gamestop employees at my local store said that new games that don't sell often get downgraded to "pre-owned" games. Must be pretty easy when the fucking cellophane is already removed and the game disc is scuffed from being kept in those overfilled drawers that they keep behind the counter.

I'll only buy new DS games from them, since those are usually still shrinkwrapped and less likely to malfunction. Otherwise it's used or nothing.

Well it doesn't help that the game is being ignored by Konami too, its due out in 3 weeks according to Gamestop and there are STILL only the 3 screenshots that Famitsu showed.

If it makes you feel better Konami doesn't advertise a bulk of their games very well, so its not like Otomedius is getting the short end of the stick. Ninety Nine Nights II had a website put up around the game's announcement and that was it. Next to no advertising to speak of leading to the game's launch. It is a bit odd there isn't a listing for the game on Konami's US website or even a press release, however.

Still hope the game comes out in 3 weeks as planned, though. I see no reason as to why they'd delay it at this point. Release it without any fanfare and have it bomb now or release it later with no fanfare and have it bomb then.

I somehow expected that from Konami of America, that's just how they roll as you said, but I did expect more out of Konami of Japan after all the shit they put us through on Otomedius Gorgeous and the fact that Otomedius G did well there.

I also have a hard time believing it'll be out that soon but whatever. I'm interested in getting it, but I only have a Japanese 360 right now (US one -> RRoD) and I've got a feeling this game will be region locked. If not I'll pickup the US version on the cheap.

I worked at an Electronics Boutique for a while in high school; the gutted games are indeed treated like crap by most employees. We had a few people at our store that gave a damn and we tried to be nice, but they get manhandled pretty bad at most stores. I also hate the case being all grubby. Bleh. I refuse to buy anything called "new" that's not shrink-wrapped. (With exceptions for cardboard box PC games, of course.)

Anyway, things are looking pretty suspicious about this release date but I think it could pull through. The labor doesn't take Konami long to localize for America, I'd imagine. Maybe censoring more booby cleavage...

Too bad 98% of GameStop stores don't even have kiosks anymore or if they do have them, they never turn them on. And I go to a lot of different gamestops very often an it's always the same.
