Alas, I've no idea what to suggest. It changes the resolution instantly for me, and I'm playing on a fairly old PC with a rubbish integrated graphics card.

May I ask those with the resolution problems what graphics adapter they use?
Game works like a charm on my newer machine(nvidia) but is blurry on my older one(ati).

Also, you using CRT or LCD? I noticed that if I switch my nvidia graphics options to use the monitor's scaling instead of the
card's hardware I get a blurry mess; I'm thinking - is it possible that ati cards don't scale the picture and just let the screen do the work?

It's a blurry mess regardless of CRT or LCD. I'm using an ATI Radeon 4850.

Ok thanks - this already kills my theory about the monitor doing the ugly scaling instead of the card.

What OS? I have w7 and a Radeon 4770 and the pixels are big and sharp for me on an LCD. There's also some scaling options in CCC, maybe mess with those.

I have a weird problem, all of a sudden the game won't detect my gamepad. It's driverless USB and worked fine up until now. I tried messing with unplugging and re-plugging it, taking out other controllers, restarting, nothing seems to work.

and now the game slows down to a crawl once i enter the map screen and i have to restart my pc to fix it :|

I've messed with all upscaling options and nothing works. I'm running XP.

a friend of mine (kiddoh) beat it after getting all the secrets and getting the hero ending. he recorded it, but he couldn't record sound so he did it with music over it.

I sit to listen to the whole music and, boy, I love it. It even has touches that remind me of Vince DiCola in the old Transformers Animated movie (namely, the Autobots vs. Deception battle track, really damn badass). You know, those ambient pads, the Fantasia setting, pitch bends and fast soloing. And whenever it's not in Vince DiCola mode it goes all spacey, rockish and grandiose, freaking great. I also love the spanish-accented voices and overall reverb/echo. It really does replicate that arcade feeling.

The game is marvelous. Great polish, awesome music and very rewarding. One of the best indie shmups I've ever played...

EPIC moment: I said to myself... "I suppose I could squeeze through that narrow space..."
...and that's what happened 8)

It's great when a shmup rewards foolish bravery on the player's part. I love that. :D

Elaphe wrote:Maybe the best euroshmup I've played so far. I'm really impressed about the fact that the levels are short and non-repetitive, like in most euroshmups. Technically, the game is very well made, with great gameplay and very good taste for the design. I'm also experiencing problems of blur. I suppose it's the graphic card that is scaling the low res. I've also tried it with my ArcadeVGA, setting the desktop res to several res modes and there's not way to show real native pixels. It would look superb in real low res.
Nothing about this games suggests it's a Euroshmup.

Download that, and put the saud.gml and the saud.dll file in the game folder.

Music problems solved!
Can someone host the saud files somewhere? The link is bork'd and I'm having music issues.

Otherwise, I dig this game a lot.

If someone can swing me an unborked link, I'll happily host the files permanently.

Edit: Cheers! Here you go.

No problem, mate - you're very welcome. That second link doesn't seem to work properly, though. Any ideas? (sjoecool's link is still grand, of course. Cheers, chap!)

That link opens a jumble of text for me, but I just right clicked and saved the file. I haven't loaded up Hydorah up yet because my laptop is a piece of junk and will take 15 minutes to get it running. :\

Well there's the British accents...plus it's too long and the scoring is busted, so it goes with the long tradition of Euroshmups being non-arcadey and more like a console game. I can't remember how many times I see some ad for a Western shmup that boasts tons of levels and a myriad of options when all I care about is 5 or 6 well-paced levels.

But, this game is very well done, especially for being fan-made. Cool visuals and sound, fun to play, and I think a more balanced challenge than most Gradius games. I wish it were more arcadey, but that's just my preference with shooters.

As has been pointed out already, this is clearly a Spanish accent. And a damn awesome one.

You could pretty much level that critcism at most of the Gradius games.

Well, well, I played this a bit more and I'm about to reach the final moments. Great game, good difficulty too. I'm not too good with this kind of horis unless I'm on vacations (like it happened with Steel Saviour) so I appreciate the save feature I can learn the levels a bit before attempting a full run without saving. We should contact the guy to see if he can implement a no-save campaign and get it released as a "Black Label" or something :P

Yeah, it's a spanish accent (the guy credited in the making of is called Jacobo García), and it rocks. Gives the whole game that weird "foreign" feeling. And I said this before but the music is great, vocal tracks included. And, of all the sounds, the start game sound and the "PERFECT!" when you clear a stage without dying are probably the best and almost straight out from the arcades.
