Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Thunder Force III/IV, MUSHA are the most impressive MD shmups that I've played.
Fire Shark
Kyukyoku Tiger
Eliminate Down
Twinkle Tale
Bio-Hazard Battle
Air Buster
..all look great but I have yet to play any of them.
I actually haven't played many MD shmups even though I've had the console for well over a decade!

I just picked up Twin Cobra today and it is pretty bland and crummy. Good thing I also grabbed Darius Twin for SNES, I never played it before and it kicks ass.

Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
I'm a big fan of Battle Squadron, but the Amiga version... the MD versions is kind screwed up, so I can't recommend it too much.
So, it probably has to be Gynoug. And the MUSHA.

Wouldn't it be cool if there was an anime based on Madison and Crystal from the The Trouble Shooters game?handsome_rakshas wrote:Wings of Wor

The U.S.-dubbed Trouble Shooters anime would have had the actresses trying to sound like they were in Dallas. Who shot the dude with the moustache and pimp eyepatch?!PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Wouldn't it be cool if there was an anime based on Madison and Crystal from the The Trouble Shooters game?

Ummmm...this is kind of embarrassing but I've been so obsessed with the Battle Mania girls I've started watching the old Dirty Pair TV series to fill the void. I have never been so in love with Sega characters.

Anyway back to the topic. Oh and i retract my statement about Twin Cobra, that game is starting to grow on me. Check out tonight's 15 dollar haul.
Best 15 dollars I've ever spent! I've also got Phelios, Gaires, Fire Shark, and Task Force Harrier on the way. Also I have someone working on a translated Battle Mania 2 cart for me, I'M IN MEGA SHMUP HEAVEN!

Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Thunder Force IV, with Crying (Bio-Hazard Battle) a close second.

Hellfire has to be 1 of the finest shmups on the megadrive, Gynoug is in the top 5 and is Musha, thunder force 4 and Aero Blasters.

Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Bio-Hazard Battle and Gynoug.
Crying is a way better name than BHB - didn't know that was the Japanese title.
EDIT: And if we're counting Sega CD ... Lords of Thunder.

IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Truxton. In a lot of ways it's more fun than the arcade version. It's a very easy 1cc but the joy of memorisation really comes through. Often it feels more like playing a rhythm action game as you react in such a rigid way to the on screen stimuli
I can't think of a single other MD STG that I'd like to play, but I do quite enjoy the aesthetic of Gynoug and the sleaziness of Divine Sealing. I'm pretty ambivalent towards horis though. I'm willing to admit I know nothing really of MD shooters though, so if there's any good verts out there, gis' a shout. (too tired to be typing

I suffered a lot to get the 1CC on this.
The color choices during the second half of the last stage are simply horrible....
Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Two of my first and favorite shooters were on the Genesis; M.U.S.H.A and Thunder Force III. So much nostalgia whenever I play either of them.

I prefer it though. Relaxing stuff, and you can stockpile loads of lives for the final meteor onslaught. Yeah, there's some eyebleeding colours at work there!
I had no idea V-V was ported to the Megadrive! Awesome stuff. Might have to fork out for a copy. I guess it probably wasn't released in PAL land though (I've never seen it

Also, I'd never tried GrindStormer up 'til now. I thought it was just a vague tweak, but it really is a completely different game, arguably dumbed down but more fun in my opinion. And it's included on the cart! Cool stuff.
Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
1. Lightening Force/Thunderfroce IV
2. MUSHA
3. Trouble Shooter
Those were the three I played all the time as a kid.
Recently I've acquired Truxton and Elemental Master which I thoroughly enjoy, but haven't given enough time yet.
Most of the other big ones I've yet to try.

For people who have mentioned TF IV as their favorite, I would like to ask you if you haven't tried Gleylancer. IMO it is a blast and a much better game.
Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
Yes, Gleylancer is a very fine game. I don't think I matches the excellence level of TF4 though. It's not as intense or difficult. It also loses points in the soundtrack (for obvious reasons).
The only aspect where Gleylancer is clearly superior is that it has absolutely no slowdown. It's truly impressive.

What reasons? I've always enjoyed the Gleylancer OST immensely, probably one of my favorites for the MD.Kollision wrote:It also loses points in the soundtrack (for obvious reasons).

I didn't mean to say Gleylancer's soundtrack is bad. I just think Thunder Force IV has got the better one.Dragoforce wrote:What reasons? Stage 8 is one of the greatest shmup BGMs ever.
Re: YOUR FAVOURITE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS SHMUP!!!!!
TF3 and 4, Elemental Master, and, when I'm feeling mellow, Fire Shark
