Its close ... it seems a little lack luster ... Can't complain for dl game ... But I just feel thats why we say things like good for a dl game.

A bit more panache, and a bit more punch, especially with weapons/impacts and tightness of some of those more animatable enimies and you could have a very impactful game.

weak sounding pew pews and washy explosion effects with disappearing models....

... Will see how it plays later, but it I suggest it feels a bit like a 'plod'. But just feels like its not quite punchy enough; its got a design-doc-it's-following-thank-you-very-much-and-that's-all-folks

From what I've seen in the video, it looks like RSHD will have 2 ships not found in the NTSC-U/C version of RayStorm PS1: R-Gear and R-Gray 0 (the third playable ship from the Japan-only Saturn version).

And yeah, 4:3 option please. HD is nice but hey guys i'm too ghetto for an hdtv, please don't letterbox my screen like rez hd or squish my screen like space invaders extreme

oh wait taito did SIE and they're doing this, so i'm squish-fucked, and i don't mean the boobie kind of squish. also they're gonna take away my remappable controls ;_;

Played the game on display at the MS booth today at TGS. Felt fine to me, but I never played the original. There was also an "Extra mode" which I chose but didn't notice any major difference from the regular mode.

Extra mode makes some stages and enemy patterns look slightly different (i.e. Stage 1 is now set in sunset, stage 2 boss is fought over a desolate city), and in the console versions, you could switch to an arranged soundtrack.

The R-Gray 0 is in the NTSC-U/C PS1 version of RayStorm (as well as the Double Shooting rerelease in NTSC-J). It is the final ship playable in 13 Ship Mode.

Nope. R-Gray 0 selectable in PSX version (by using 13 ship mode)

No idea if there's new news in this, but from Famitsu: http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1228208_1124.html

It says there on that Famitsu article besides having the PS version's Extra Mode, 13-ships Mode and the secret ship R-Gray 0, Raystorm HD will have the R-Gear ship as well. It's talking about controls for the R-Gear. ZUTATA is handling the game's BGM. Japanese release date is Autumn 2009, it should be here anytime soon when it's ready.

1200MSP on XBLA, $15/¥1500 on PSN... guess I'll have to buy more points, I didn't really expect this to release at over 800 points :(

We're already well into fall, yet still no release date even on the official site.

Yeah, I wonder what's taking them so long. Looks like a pretty straightforward HD remake to me, unless they're re-balancing the whole game again because of the widescreen format :?

Honestly- I love supporting the shmup cause. Though- if it ends up being $15 and the controls aren't 'fixed' for the wider screen I might have to wait a little on this one :P

Any word if the annoying self-centering "feature" is back or not?

For some reason I somewhat feel they are either having trouble, as people commented, with the screen resolution and how the game behaves with it OR they are waiting for Cave's hype to die out a little and release it shortly afterwards to avoid releasing it in the middle of tanks. They must also be busy with the Darius Burst or lolifying the pilots :P

Fingers crossed. Hope Taito puts their act together.

Is there a specific strip in the playing field that constitutes a centering 'zone', chap? I've been getting back into this recently, and the feeling of drifing back into the middle of the screen is maddening, but I've also noticed it's perfectly possible to stay still in places. Just can't count on it, yet. :P

Hmmm. Price will be everything with this game. I have the PSX original and that video isn't making me want to rush out and buy it. This probably sounds pedantic but why does the Earth (or whatever planet it's supposed to be) have that 32bit shimmer as the camera pans around? Poor programming? Anyway, for me this is a no thanks unless I can pick it up for a fiver.

Looking at that new video shows pretty much why they took so long: looks like they seriously redid the whole game to work on a 16:9 screen ratio, like recalculating the different bullet-spreads and "laser-gaps". I'm surprised they actually went to such lenght, even if it's silly IMO they should've just restricted the playfield to 4:3 and extend the background to the rest of the sides. Well, at least they did something else than just a lazy porting.

Looks like the awful auto-centering is still around...

By self centering, you mean that weird inertia woble when you stop? Annoying as hell. I'll play the 1st just to get a glimpse of that super sexy pic of the chick in a cockpit. *Best shmup pic*

first day purchase for me-
Definitely want to show support for these types of games to be released on xbla. Lately they have been releasing alot of horrible arcade games, so this is a pleasant surprise.
