Yeah no voting thirded. The worst choices get picked almost every time when its down to a public vote.

Rayxamber II week.
You know it makes sense.

I would do this. Not a giant fan of Xevious but I could stomach it.

The more I think about it, no voting sounds great. We're gamers, not politicians.

Actually we're a massive collection of bitches who will complain about the choice of game regardless of the process behind that choice. 8)

All for no voting too, just please pick games that have decent scoring in them. And no Touhou or other doujin crap this year.

I'd rather five different people from the forum be asked to pick a game for us to play, then it gets announced when the week comes. That's an even cooler extension of my Macaw week suggestion :p

So like
Week 1 Rob's pick
Week 2 Macaw's pick
Week 3 Ed Oscuro's pick

Plus that way we don't have to think of stupid themes that we're eventually going to run out of anyways. Maybe the only voting of STGT can be to decide who gets on this council. Plus it'll only be one person's fault if a crappy game gets picked, so they might get some slack but at least they'll probably be the person most qualified to stick up for the game instead of saying oh, it's just a bunch of noobs who have never even played it.

No voting it is then. I just need to confirm if one of the games is good for a scoring competition with the guy who has the current record on the forum (I have a backup in case if it isn't).

Freddiebamboo: Like I said previously, no cave, no doujins, and no caravans. Most of the games picked have scoring systems that are fairly flexible and forgiving (i.e. no chaining or split-second timing required), though some are a little complex.

yay! no voting. sounds good to me. i like the idea of macaw picking the last week game. he seems to have a nice game no one has ever heard of in tournament of macaw.

when is the next tournament of macaw?!?!?!

ps. and oh yeah i pussed out on last year's stgt, i have been lurking since early 06 and i probably suck pretty bad and i know how shitty voting can be. i also need a team. but i am sure there will be a recruitment thread soon enough.

I'd love a hori week. Konami has several good side-scrollers that don't end in -ius. Thunder Cross 1&2? Several good Neo Geo games too, Pulstar and Blazing Star for starters.

Run n' Gun week?

i like how the people who have posted the most in this thread are the same people who wont actually bother competing when the time comes anyways

I think this is the best idea presented in this thread yet. Make it so.

I'd enjoy picking a game, but it sounds like a list has already been decided on.

Random comments: Touhou games and other doujins are around 1470 yen in stores. Some are cheaper (like Samidare, that Hatsune Miku shooter by 12citron or Banshiryu), others are more expensive like Cloudphobia (1.8k yen in its retail version) or Trouble Witches of the Lolirealm of the annoying high pitched voices, which runs for 2.1k. Check Messe-Sanoh, Toranoana or something like that.

And "crappy doujins" my balls. Hellsinker wants to have a talk with all of you. KEEP YOUR DIGNITY. Ok, it's not for a tourney anyway, especially with that 10k spirits on segment 1 deal.

How about Stella Vanity trial? Has two stages, really challenging, a lot of scoring opportunities.

Or Patriot Dark, which is finally freeware and you can put your own music.

Or surviving all the waves on Exception Conflict, also freeware.

...

ARMED POLICE BATRIDER WEEK. Enough said. That or Thunder Dragon II.

Whatever we pick, someone will break it. Tears will be shed and drama will reign, yay!

My dignity is fine

Hellsinker by your own evaluation ain't for tourney play, stella has just 2 stages and patriot dark we played the hell out of last year and it's just a short, messed up cave knock off - and cave is OB this year.

I'd say Xed wants a talk with you about your taste of doujins

I apologize for taking so long. I was busy with work on SDA (see my sig), and I had trouble choosing a fifth game.

Enough excuses, registration thread.

I present to you, gentleman of shmups.com, the REAL MAN'S choices for the STGT:

Week 1: Raiden Fighters Jet
Week 2: G-Darius (I just want to see how many people complain about milking Great Thing)
Week 3: Thunder Dragon II
Week 4: Espgaluda
Bonus Week: robot dinosaurs that shoot beams when they roar

discuss this awesome selection, if you please.

Maybe I don't know my fellow shmuppperz so well but this seems rather like the Rob / Macaw / me choices that were proposed, although I would expect Macaw to go for something aside from RFJ (I'm guessing Rob liek G-Darry, dunno for sure).
