I love danmaku, and I hate lolis, but I put up with the lolis in newer Cave games because the games themselves are kickass. I just really wish they didn't have friggin' lolis! Any kind of badass plane or space ship, cool. Little anime girl? No thanks.

We need more shmups with Dolphins

A dolphin fetish is less alarming than a loli fetish because in the real world creepy men actually do molest little girls - kind of a lot actually - but when is the last time you heard about some guy molesting a dolphin?


And to reiterate, the problem isn't with female characters, or even little girl characters, in games. The problem is with little girl characters as sex objects. If you are into that you are making the world more of a bummer.

Why this is a big thing in the shmups genre is some combination of bad luck and Japan.

For one, in very few games are they featured as "sex objects". Deathsmiles is really the only Cave game with the lolis as "sex objects":
-Daifukkatsu's aren't really sexualized, just weird robots wearing dresses.
-Mushi's Reco is like, totally not even a loli, she's got a huge chest and looks about the same age as the average generic anime character, regardless of her stated age.
-Ibara and its sequel, the girls are old enough to be out of the loli range, with the exception of Meidi, maybe.

And really, I don't want to start some sort of retarded debate like this would elsewhere, but how is anyone who is into loli "making the world more of a bummer"?

Cute little characters sell things in Japan. Tokyo Tower is one of the biggest landmarks there and it still needs some promotional pink mascot called Noppon, y'know, just in case.

Touhou clearly has a prolific doujin empire going on, and some of the Cave promotional material is suspect. But the games themselves are not loaded with seedy overtones. They are innocent. ZUN didn't design Reimu back on PC-98 with some master plan that in a decade he'll be indirectly producing vast amounts of smut. And the smut producers aren't doing it because they are confused and that's how they show their appreciation towards shmups. If touhou was full of spaceships nobody would've heard of it and all the doujin circles would be riding a different mosaic-laden bandwagon.

I'll accept the various shrine maidens, witches and gothloli's flying around brightly coloured stages isn't everyones cup of tea. But that doesn't mean it's some kind of evil creepy fetish.

For someone who's so sickened by the thought, you sure do think about people masturbating a lot. It must be truely sad to not even be able to play a game without the mental image of nerds rubbing furiously at their manhood entering your head. How dare people make images that someone you don't know might get a rise from. Because of these images, you're stuck thinking about men masturbating, and that's just not cool.

Or you can just lighten up, ignore the stuff you don't like, and enjoy the stuff you do. I'm rather baffled what you thought bringing in "nerds masturbating" would do for your argument. So CAVE makes a few shooters with icky girls in it, so what? The game industry in general rarely makes games I really like at all, and I don't go around whining about "nerds jacking it to X". As more people make more shmups (And hopefully, they become more popular), there will be many different types available. Just as before the "loli boom", whenever that was, there will be more shooters with different themes and aesthetics made. Then you have western devs who make a multitude of differing shmups with differing themes. There will be more military sci-fi shmups made, I can guarantee that. The same way 2D game are still being made after the 3D Generation started. You just have to be a little patient, the same way other people were patient when their particular niche wasn't getting much attention. I'm sorry if I'm coming of rude, but splitting up an excruciatingly small niche group over something like this is simply crazy to me.

I really don't understand why people complain about this so much. There are countless shmups out there that have no loli-type characters in them, let alone any characters at all. If you don't like it, play one of those instead. It's really that easy.
