I don't want to sound like too much of a dick, but will you please stop this incessant posting of every single thought that enters your head? Especially when you're simply repeating something you've already said ten times. It's getting tiresome now.

if you have a J-360 you can get the Korean version, which is cheaper than the Japanese one.

MADEIRA, the community of forum members here are really refined and picky about posts and they'll trash on meaningless posts all the time. I think part of the reason is they want a tight forum that isn't drivel-filled and also because they are conscious of the bandwidth space that is being provided here (thanks to Malc if I'm not mistaken - which I probably am). Don't worry about it though, I think just about every new member goes through it.

On topic - Being a bit disappointed with Raiden3, I'm so glad that there are such good things being said about Raiden4. After checking out some screenshots I can see why this is being toted as one of the most graphically impressive shmups ever. Congrats Moss!

Steve, I think what you just typed is what the other guy is talking about. You are taking threads that are devoted to a topic and taking things a bit off topic and turning them into you being the topic.

Raiden 4 is definitely a very impressive looking game. Now they just need to stop making backgrounds that are hard to see bullets.

Not at all. There will be deaths where you may be like WTF just killed me? It's not much different than some of the backgrounds or choice of bullet color on RFA. I guess you can get use to it and maybe it doesnt effect certain people but it doesnt take away from the game or make it any less great (IMHO).

I really do wish that more developers would include the option to toggle bullet color though...off the top of my head the only games I can think of which have it are Batrider, Bakraid and Stahlfeder (might be missing a few, but those are all I recall). Seriously though, how is this not a standard feature yet?

I will be in soon mate! I'm off overseas for a few days, but soon I'll be getting those files from you.

Now... I need post something relevant about Raiden IV! I'll tell you what - I've never found the backgrounds a problem, so while it's general concensous that the back grounds are a bit of a pain in the arse, not everybody finds it that way, so don't let it put you off buying a copy of this amazing game...

That's a really good idea. I always wondered myself why developers choose the colors they do, but to have the ability to change the colors to adapt your eyes or playing style is definitely "ground-breaking" in ways.

Red is spread-shot.
Purple is a sort of ring/bubble-shot
Blue is piercing lasers with two trailing options (spaced firing though, no continuous beam)

So no, nothing like RFA.

A while ago the achievements for Raiden IV were only in japanese. Also you couldn't even find the name Raiden IV, you had to look for 雷電IV.

Maybe they changed it into english recently because of the upcoming us release. This would mean it will be the same game in the US and in Japan contrary to RFA which is treated as two seperate games in the US and Japan.

RFA has suffered also the same process. Who has the original Japanese release had its achievements in Japanese, but they did changed to English a little before the US release.

The language of the achievement depends on two things:
- the game has to be release in the country of such language.
- the language option you have set in the 360 dashboard.

The reason the language changed in RFA has because you had the dash in English, but for a time the game was only released in Japan, so it displayed in Japanese for you. When the english translation was available because the game was to be released in USA, your dash option forced the change in the display.

So there is nothing to do with a sigle release/achievement list/scoreboard.

Nope, that's not true. RFA's achievements always displayed in English on an English-language dashboard, right from the day that the compilation was released.

Also, the US version of RFA does have a different achievement list than the Japanese version - the achievements are the same, but the lists don't synch up with each other.

This seems to be a pretty recent thing. I checked on my xbox.com account and sure enough the achievement list for Raiden IV is in English for me now, and it certainly wasn't before. It's still has the original Japanese titles and descriptions when I log on at xbox.co.jp though.

As an aside, dear lord the English translation is overliteral to the point of being pretty bad.

In the most recent episode of Drunken Gamer's Radio, the hosts (John, Hilden and Moe) interviewed Chong Ahn from UFO Interactive (interview begins at the 52 minute mark). He talks about localizing Raiden IV, Illvelo and drops a hint about their next project due out in 2010 which to me sounds like they might have grabbed the US distro rights to Mamoru-kun.

For some odd reason the R4 theme and gamer pics have made it over here. I have picked up neither, so I don't know if they're at all interesting.

That's odd, I have my 360 on right now, and I just checked the Achievements for Raiden IV, and they are still in Japanese for me. It would be great if they suddenly switched to english, but unless someone has information on this to the contrary, I doubt such a thing will happen unless I purchase the upcoming USA release.

He does mention that "fans of Heavenly Guardian and Pocky and Rocky, or shooters in general" have a nice surprise coming...a bit ambiguous, but Mamoru is about the best guess I could come up with to attach a title to that statement. If this turns out to be true, I'll be incredibly surprised that such a distinctly Japanese and niche title ended up coming here...

Cheers for the link Kiken.

I can't believe I put a load of time into working out 'translating' what achievements I had got, and now they're up there in English!

Another though. If this were to get a UK release, even though I've sessioned the JPN I'd get the PAL edition just to support the genre here. Would that mean I could get all my R4 achievements again, or would I just already have them when I booted up the PAL disc the first time? I'm no achievement whore - just curious as to how that works...

To bad the UK seems to not get any love with no word of any sort of SHMUP publishing over here.

@spadgy on your Jap360 does the achievements for Raiden IV appear in English?
