Doom 3 was at least good because it was somewhat challenging. Especially if you attempted to play each map from a warp start w/o dying. And it had nightmare mode. :P
One flaw in what was otherwise one of the most perfect single player games I've played.
Whereas Doom 3 has... dark. Lots and lots of dark. So dark that you can't take a piss without the walls trying to eat you, with little ability to suspect anything. what it had in hard is artificial.

Not dying in FPSes is...well, that's every FPS made since they stopped making maps like DOOM, where you just restart with a pistol and fifty rounds.

Pretty much all modern FPSes are interactive movies, and dump you pretty close to where you ended up.

Actually, I didn't try playing through DOOM III on Nightmare, so maybe it works somewhat like before. It has the health draining thing instead of punting you all the way to the beginning of the level.

Can't say I really like one style more than the other in terms of gameplay considerations...the new "clear one challenge and you get a save point" style is used in all modern games to keep the story going, of course.

How can Resistance be a Halo 3 clone when it was released before it? More to the point, how can anything be a Halo clone, 3rd chapter or otherwise, when it doesn't do anything new? Even the iconic protagonist is straight out of Doom. It is one of the most saturated genres out there, juxtaposed by the rapid advances in technology used to differentiate them.

I’m pretty sure all your comparisons being PS3 and 360 exclusives states your actual agenda here quite clearly. Sorry, but they’re good games. Gears of War did not do cover first, Kill.Switch was before it. But it’s irrelevant anyway, even if Gears of War did create the cover mechanic it doesn’t matter if another game uses it too.

Halo did quite a few things that were new, as it goes. But there's little point in getting involved in this discussion when everybody's already made their minds up.

Sort of fixed. Your point still stands, and Marathon hit about a year after DOOM anyway.
