Do people just not play Normal very much? This was only my second time through the game, and there's no way I should have a score that far up on the leaderboard

Also, is there anything to the scoring system other than point-blanking enemies? I'm assuming waiting until there are as many bullets on screen as possible before killing a boss will help, too.

Did you save a replay? Posting screenshot would be cool too.
Also, did you use any special mode like slaughter, cancel, maniac? Those might affect your score greatly.
Anyway, it might be because of changes made to the game. Most of high-scores were made during Revision 5-6, while now we are on Revision 8 ( rev. 7 added overdrive mode, which greatly increases amount of DAL when activated ). For example, stage end-bonuses are bigger than before.

Anyway, good to see other XOP Black-players!

About scoring system:
The main thing is collecting DAL-coins. Collect them like angry motherfucker. Point-blank enemies and chain them ( chain decreases really fast, but you might kill lots of enemies in short time ).

On insane mode, point-blanking bonus and chaining are removed. Bombs reduce your DAL less and convert all bullets into purple DAL which increases your DAL-count ( less than blue DAL do ), but they grant more points than normal DAL.

That's exactly the reason. I even think Anesthetize's score is the very first done with revision 8.

This definitely makes sense, since I just downloaded the game this past weekend. Are any older releases still available, so that I can compete with the posted scores?

Pretty fun game though, seems quite enjoyable. I don't think I understand exactly how Overdrive works, though.

Overdrive meter increases when you scratch bullets (move very close to them). When the gauge is full and you activate overdrive mode, you get x2 DAL chips from all enemys for ten seconds long.
There's no need to play older revisions 'cause they're all flawed somehow. Just wait a bit, more and more people will play the newest one.

I finally had a chance to play this a little more. Lot's of dumb deaths, I probably wasted about 15 bombs by dying before I used them. Oh well, still better than my last overall:

p.s. I didn't use Hyperdrive at all, so this score could easily be even better (as soon as i understand how to use hyperdrive efficiently)

this game makes a LOT of fun, seems to be very balanced and i will continue practicing it.

I am happy to 1cc this game on my 6th try. And to defend the true-last boss with 0lives and 0bombs left at 1st try

Now I am going to get some more score out of this run.

One of the rare examples of a stage that actually got more difficult in later revisions. The midboss is much harder now, the boss is easier and allows me a no bomb route. Some nifty dodges here and there, hope you enjoy the replay!

Had too many stupid deaths in XOP Black, so I went to play Garegga for few days. Might get back to XOP Black soon.

Regarding the TLB: Is there some way to practise him other than credit feeding to the end? What about the "regular" TLB you have to fight after Normal diff, is he also present in Insane mode or do you just have to fight the new one?

I feel more like playing the EX stages, rather than trying to beat Insane. Everytime I think about doing an attempt, I get sick. What a frustrating mode that is!

Yeah, there is just one TLB. While it is easier than rev. 7 and earlier was, it is still pretty hard. And no, you have to go through stage 4 to get to the TLB.
Insane is mostly frustrating because I forget to bomb. I once no-missed until stage 4, then I went and died twice without bombing.

No miss, no bomb up to the boss, where I then die twice. Hyperdrive wasn't very well executed during the stage. Kind of a tentative scorepost, just to have something there that's done on revision 8. Will hopefully improve this soon!

Still a bit sloppy, but that's more like it. Got lucky at the boss and only had to use two bombs. Missed a few enemies throughout the stage and milking the fountains was not optimal, so 30mill is definitely possible. I probably won't try though.

The last and also the most difficult one in the bundle. I'm doing a no miss no bomb up to the second form of the boss. Then my hands get a little bit too shaky and I die twice.
I'm not going to improve this though. EX0 is a pain and I'm happy to have all replays up for the new revision.

This was the run. It's a no miss/no bomb through the whole stage AND the boss! I didn't think I could make it, especially the boss. The tension when you have to dodge the last patterns, knowing that you've done well in the stage, is insane. Hardly ever felt such a relief as during this run, when the boss exploded. On top of that the last attack deals with one of my biggest handicaps: bullets from all sides of the screen. Oh how glad I am!

Definitely done now!

Found an easy way to practice the TLB: Play EX4 on insane in Score Attack and you'll have to fight the TLB after the regular boss. Could come in handy for those who want to beat Insane.

I ALMOST KILLED LAST BOSS. I HAD ONE BOMB IN STOCK, BOSS WAS ALMOST DEAD.
THEN I JUST DIED.

Anyway, this run was surprising. I died on second boss and on third boss, but still made it so far. I believe I can 1cc this, only TLB remains.
