Apparently the newer versions of MAME use raw_input for the joystick so you can't use an external program (joy2key, Xpadder) to setup an autofire option.

I'm using WolfMAME Plus 0.106 with Xpadder setup to make button 3 (square on a ps2 controller) autofire 'z'. Then in WolfMAME I set the shot button to 'z' and 'joystick button 1'. This way I can still use the charge shot and I don't have to kill my wrists. I hope this helps as it took me some time to get an autofire setup that worked right for me.

Doubled my previous score almost exactly; much of the improvement came from not dying on stage 3 boss in an attempt to speedkill it as it usually happens (I played safe and got a B rank, ffs). Guess I'll call it a day.

YES! I finally beat that damned boss on stage 6, and did decently with the medalling for the first five stages (i.e. the one time I died on stage 4, I bit it at the beginning, so I could still build up medals)...

Almost perfectly in accordance to my plan in stages 1-4 (5.2 mil when entering stage 5), then an abysmal stage 5 (as you can probably see on the scoreboard). I died 3 times there. I have to get that stage right next time...

I like the Lightning but I can't seem to get 100% on stage 1 with it (or any other stage but it'd be nice to have at least 1 down). Stage 6 is pretty tough though so if people are posting huge scores without even clearing it maybe I need to adjust my strategy.

Now if only that third boss wasnt the biggest snotwad in existence.

I *really* coulda done better there had I not died (with 5 bombs in reserve) once on that damn thing.
