Sega uses a version of Dgen for their emulation.
Apparently they bought the rights to it a few years back to save the $$ it would have cost them to develop their own.
Don't ask me where I got this, I don't remember
But it would explain the B- quality of their Emulated stuff.

If I recall, they're using that emulator for the PC Sega Game Hompo, not their Sonic Collection whatever.Dartagnan1083 wrote:Sega uses a version of Dgen for their emulation.

Can we say that, at least in matter of game selection, that's the best 'retro' compilation so far?
I don't have a PS2, but that would be a great disc to get if I ever buy a PS2
Taito could easily just put less games on those compilations , and release dozens of those compilations, and make some cash easily.
If the emulation is done nicely, then I can say it's very kind of them.

Volfied on PS1 lacks Tate, but it is still a good port. It looks like the arcade game but just in a 4:3 aspect rather than 3:4.yojo! wrote:volfied was released on PS1 a few years ago already. Gekirindan would be nice for Vol. 2 so we can see a perfect port of it. Cadash could use link cable support ala Time Crisis 2/3. Super Chase is another title worthy of inclusion in TMv2, and I'd also like to see Galactic Storm.
As far as I remember, Darius Gaiden is nearly perfect in MAME except for the transition effect on the space warp in Zones G-J. Lights don't blackout in Elevator Action II at the moment- the game is still playable, but the blackout does affect your bonus points (2x for killing enemies in blacked-out areas). Here's wishing the best for Mish's going back to work on the F3 driver- it's good so far, and it'll be awesome to see the remaining glitches get nailed. Seeing the missing sound channel in KT2 (i.e. the lead guitar in Stage 1's BGM) fixed was a great thing.
Agreed all the way.Shatterhand wrote: If the emulation is done nicely, then I can say it's very kind of them.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
The PS1 Volfied was released in the US under the name Qix Neo. I own and love it, but I still would love to see Volfied in a collection. Why did you specifically mention Araknoid 2000? The original name of the game was Arkanoid R. Araknoid R 2000 (the correct title) is just a re-release of that game with analog. Yes, Arkanoid has tons of ports, a few sequels, many clones, and a couple remakes, but it's such a great game and deserves to be in a collection. Qix has ports on that Space Invaders Joystick, Gameboy b/w, Atari 800, Atari Lynx, NES, older PC, and a few others.gameoverDude wrote:Volfied on PS1 lacks Tate, but it is still a good port. Mish supposedly got every F3-related glitches fixed recently, but he broke G. Fight in the process, so he hasn't submitted the update yet. Don't know if the bugs you mention were all known; were they in MAME Testers' list?gameoverDude wrote: As far as I remember, Darius Gaiden is nearly perfect in MAME except for the transition effect on the space warp in Zones G-J. A bit of a late reply, but the PSX version of Puzznic not only doesn't have the pictures, it has the most bizarre bug I've seen--the music only works on an emulator, not if you play the game in a real PSX.BrianC wrote:Do the home versions of Puzznic have that risque picture in it? The PAL version of Puzznic doesn't have that problem, but the PAL version of Cleopatra Fortune does, and the US Cleopatra Fortune doesn't. Quite odd.arromdee wrote:A bit of a late reply, but the PSX version of Puzznic not only doesn't have the pictures, it has the most bizarre bug I've seen--the music only works on an emulator, not if you play the game in a real PSX.
Yes. Those games and Qix Neo (aka The Volfied) were all released in the US by Mud Duck.Recap wrote:Is there a Western version of PS Cleopatra Fortune and another one of Puzznic? For amusement expert.
The snapshots reveal fake low res presentation, as expected. Let's hope they implement a true low res option at the end, even if we all know that won't happen.

Whee, all the game titles are in japanese. Good thing there's that preview-image, might be a bit annoying trying to find the one game you want to play otherwise...
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I wouldn't count TATE out just yet, there seem to be many an option for games. Just the controls for the original Space Invaders (What does it say on the right? Some background info?) but for Grid Seeker and whatnot there may well be an option for TATE...hopefully Taito pulls through this time.Dylan1CC wrote:And bummer there may be no TATE.

They're the "game rules". Above them, you have an option to modify the screen position, but not to change to tate/yoko. It may be in the main options screen, thoe.Ghegs wrote: I wouldn't count TATE out just yet, there seem to be many an option for games. YA know, even without tate, this seems to be the best thing released for the PS2 ever.
I don't have a PS2, and no plans to buy one soon... (When I bought my PS1, the PS2 was out for near 2 years, so I could buy it cheap... I'll do the same with the PS2), but when I get one, this is something I will surely hunt.
And we are even going to get a Vol.2?
It's really amazing how Taito has put such a big ammount of games. I can live without Tate, I just hope the gameplay remains intact...

Not only is the resolution scaled-up, the blur is really pronounced and makes the games look really bad. I hope there are no emulation problems, because it wouldn't surprise me with the way they seem to be treating the games. I want to support the variety and diversity of games here, but I don't like supporting hack-job console collections (Midway packs, Megaman Anniversary Collection).
Indeed. I really want to buy this game. I really know I won't be happy with it.jiji wrote:Not only is the resolution scaled-up, the blur is really pronounced and makes the games look really bad. Play.com, a UK-based webstore has this list for Taito Legends, could be the US list as well.
Aqua Jack
Battle Shark
Bubble Bobble
Bubble Symphony
Colony 7
Continental Circus
Darius Gaiden
Double Axle
Dungeon Magic
Electric YoYo
Elevator Action
Exzisus
Gladiator
Great Swordsman
Jungle Hunt
New Zealand Story
Ninja Kids
Operation Thunderbolt
Operation Wolf
Phoenix
Plotting (AKA Flipull)
Plump Pop
Pop N Pop
Rainbow Islands
Rastan
Rayforce
Scramble Formation
Sea Fighter Poseidon
Space Gun
Space Invaders
Space Invaders Part II
Super Qix
ThunderFox
Tube It
Volfied
Zoo Keeper
36 games as opposed to Memories' 25, but it's lacking quite a few of the more interesting titles. And those games in Legends but not in Vol.1 might be found on Vol. 2 (already up for pre-order at Play-Asia).
