I concur. Making the background scroll at a different speed would help out a lot.

The player's ship does tilt but the tilting has to be stronger.

I already have stated several times that you will be able to make the backgrund less bright in the option menu. :P
looks like last hope
You will need to explain this.

There will be parralax scrolling in the final.

-You have a pod
-enemies and enemy formations look similar
-charge beam
-chaining system (probably?)
-level structure (first the space part then the factory like bit)

Note that I said that it's actually a GOOD thing that it looks very similar to Last Hope (at least for me)

Yeah, it's not a bad thing per se but DUX in meant to be very different in several ways to Last Hope so that should be visible. I think that's just depending on how the way you look at it. When it reminds you on Last Hope, then I'm not going to disagree with your statement, especially as the chainging system is comparable to Last Hope but slighty advanced.

About the difficulty, there's no difficult setting yet but the default will be more forgivable then Last Hope. Some harder difficulties will be included anyhow.

I don't exactly know what you mean but it only can be a compliment.

Looks very promising indeed.

It's obvious that the criticisms at Last Hope were taken to heart and the particular problems were addressed.

Bullets are better visible and the difficulty seems toned down (a lot in this vid, but harder modes for the masochists is always nice ;)).

Music is once again superb (despite Rafael's absence), graphics seem awesome and stylish. I agree on the criticism of the look of the charge shot though. It doesn't look right. Also if you'll allow me 1 more point of "complaint" (please do and don't feel offended)... the enemy explosions could be a little more varied imho. Like wall mounted stuff having a slightly different animation and even then 1 or 2 variotion in each would be nice.

Just nitpicking though, as it looks like it'll be worth my money again.

ps...love the scrolling star stripes at the start.

oh and

Don't worry about Plasmo, he sees Last Hope everywhere, even in his dreams. 8)

Nice, chunky enemy graphics. I won't comment on the gameplay, though, as it's the complete opposite of what I prefer and I'm not experienced enough to comment on a hori anyway.
It is powerup of laser.

-the walls look like the background, making either of them darker would help
-player ship needs to tilt as mentioned before
-charge beam is too fast imo and looks weird
-the game looks too easy
-sprites a too big, imho.
- i almost fall asleep cuz music a too slow.

But yes, this one looks much better than Last Hope.
How about port it to PC and release via Steam?

Wish I could see the video. WinAmp, Media Player, Quicktime, VCL and WinDVD either don't play it, or only show a black screen with music.

Had the same prob at first. (codec probs???)

Try Nero ShowTime Essentials, this worked for me. Pretty sure it got a free dl and test period...

Yes of course. Currently there's only a standard explosion but this will change in the final.

I'm not going to disagree with you on this.

No. But why that anyway?

I wish everyone would have that kind of attitude. When you have something constructive to say about that, I'd like to hear it nonthless.

i'm not sure, what my DC will be ok, then DUX will be released. Also, afaik Steam = no problem with pirates.
+ if price for game will be ~30eur it may be a bit too hight.)
but for 19 or 24$ it looks cool.
I don't need manual/case, so Steam sounds like cool idea for me.

You cheap ass... it's time for Ukraine to enter the EU I think! ;)

Price is as reasonable as can be expected here. Steam means NO PHYSICAL game too, which is not desirable imo.

PC development is almost certainly more complex than developing for a single format (such as the DC). All those different hardware configurations to account for, etc.

How about porting to the Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Store?

Now, seeing the video, I must say... there are some points to improve:

- needs more parallax
- needs more, better explosion effects
- ship should be a bit faster
- ship's fire should be more powerful (a la Border Down)
- bouncing crates could use better physics (a la Sol-Feace)

Come on, this is Dreamcast! The ultimate gaming machine, remember? Go crazy with transparency and parallax!

NOW IS THE TIME TO THE SH-4 HEART ON FIRE! :P

I don't know the exact requirements to do that but I want to bless the DC with this game, so let's keep it this way.
- needs more parallax
- needs more, better explosion effects
- ship should be a bit faster
- ship's fire should be more powerful
All of this will be improved.
- bouncing crates could use better physics (a la Sol-Feace)
I'd like to see a video of this.

It's rather time to set the DCs 8 MiB Video RAM on fire as 2D high-res need a lot of those.

Yeah, I will own this. I've got a LOT of catching up to do for my Dreamcast library, and this looks like a really artistic and unique tactical hori; like Last Hope - which I'm still trying to hunt down.

Also looking for Under Defeat, TH Exelica and...Ibara?

As for the vid: I like that one green "leafy" enemy that spins by towards the top of the screen just before you enter the station. That kind of thing is what sets this team's games apart from the others. More of that kind of ingenuity would be a good thing...
Doing crazy creative things with the R-Type/Pulstar landscape is a winner in my book. And the shiny, "brand new plastic toy" graphics are just freaking me out!

You obviously have the heart at the right place.

Who's playtesting the game btw?
Hope you got some people like Plasmo and other veterans to help in this department.

Oh before I forget: accepting paypal for preorders would be very convenient... ;)

Please continue this "labour of love" :P

Yes. I don't think that the gamepaly will benifit much from that though.
Super Laydock wrote:Who's playtesting the game btw?

Currently only players who don't appear to be on this board will do playtesting. I'm not sure if someone like Plasmo should playtesting games, as he only would destoying it already by playing it on the first try.

Nevertheless, I need some experienced players for playtesting and will take look around for that. One thing for sure, the playtesting has to be in Germany. So Triggerzone wold be a choice.

I think so too. In DUX regards, I hope it will remind R-Type but will be still differntly enough to make its own gaming experience.

Dynamite Dux- the very first thing I had thought of. I had pictured this possibly being a Paro type shooter with a duck. So far it looks great, especially with the background made slightly darker in The Coop's first edit.

Any chance of a limited edition for Dreamcast, as Last Hope received?

the thing that bothers me the most are the animations.

some emenies are well animated while others (and the ship) are a simple sprite.

I think releasing it in July would be rushing it a bit, even if the dev team is producing fast. If you want a game that can sell at 30$ (20 EUR) it needs to be much better than most free doujins in terms of overall quality.

That being said, the idea is great and hopefully the game will be very fun and sell well (I am definitely a potential buyer).
