From the bottom of the second Ketsui page:

世界中のプレイヤーとスコアが競えるオンラインランキングに対応

"Players from all over the world can compete in sharing their scores." (Very, very roughly translated--I hate written short form sentences with no direct subject.) The DDP DOJ BL X page has a similar blurb. Standard XBox Live ranking boilerplate text, or an early hint at a more internationally-minded release?!?

LET THE BASELESS SPECULATION BEGIN!

the resolution won't be true low res but if arika is doing it I'd bet money on a 480p with fake scanline options just like the sega ages. they could have it in a higher res also with a fake scanline option.

either way I have a import 360 so a ketsui port would be a nice alternative.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I don't have any problem with lack of TATE if all of the gameplay area is on the screen and not blurry. It made a huge difference on SD sets but it's more a cosmetic thing now. Triggerheart assured me this really isn't a problem.

Speaking of Triggerheart, it has TATE, even in the US version. Just a side note there.

Would it hurt to get some people together to tell Atlus or someone we would like to play these games in the States? Pixelcorps got those folks together and raised a lot of money to get that Ketsui PCB to that guy that said it was lame and probably won't do much with it for quite some time (especially now) I figure if people are that desperate they'd easily sign a petition or something. Not that those ever seem to get anything done, but maybe we'd have some grassroots fun doing it and get some people interested in the genre anyways.

I been lurking this board for years, but this thread forced me to fucking register. You guys are all dicks.

First i see one that says "no need for a ketsui port", yeah, really? Then why have people bitched about it like since before it was released?

Then Ceph just goes on and on about 360s exploding and cumming all over. Guess what, I had my launch console until now, it died and DHL picked it up at my door, then they visited me one god damn week later and handed a brand new one in too my hands. Yeah, thats just... catastrophic customer service, like your going to die 1-2 weeks without your games.

Here we have a port of the ONE game that people have cried, and bitched, wanked off too screenshots and what do you do? Fucking cry more.

There are online leaderboards and shit, as long as it's not complete and utterly broken, the rest of us non-elitistic assholes will enjoy the game.

Now I'll finally be able to put my EX2 stick to use! Was there a tentative release date?

sure, customer service replaces/fixes your xbox360. the xbox360 in my household is the 4th that has been fixed/replaced by microsoft. last time around it took six and a half weeks before it was returned to us by microsoft. so their customer service works, not flawlessly but it works. yet all this of this is not even close to the point which is that the damned machine needs all those repairs! it's a poorly designed piece of technology, prone to failure. and in the case of a region lock on the upcoming cave ports your going to need a japanese machine. and microsoft is not going to send dhl over to pick up your jap machine and fix it for you.

exactly, people have been waiting for this and want it to be a good one.

sure, for many people a random, half way decent port will do but also for some people here only a (near) perfect port will be appreciated. and cave's most recent ports have been far from perfect so there is room for concern. if you don't care about it, that's fine but i, and many others here do! which is at least an equally valid opinion as you who (apparently) don't care about the details as much.

Dont worry dude i felt the same about psikyo shmuppers post.. wot a dick.
he was the one who complained and whinged so much about ketsui price rises and shit as well.. most these guys spend most of there time going ZOMG CAYVES IS SO HARD I AMZ A SPACCA.// so it's not worth worrying about there opinions :D any true fan (even one who collects pcbs) could only see this as a good thing no matter what console/region its released on..

I like the vocal bunch that crap on releases ad-nauseam because the games aren't in lo-res. Amusing, because the vast majority of Shmups members are absolutely content playing their 15khz STG titles in MAME on a VGA monitor (gasp, maybe even an LCD!). Just take a survey of the top-ranking STGT players to see that picture quality is really not an issue.

As for the whole tate argument, it's stupid. The 360 can not display in 15khz. In high-res there's enough resolution to display vertical games in yoko format, therefore, lack of tate = a non-issue.

THE is a 480p, polygon-based game. The two in question are 240p sprite based. They definitely don't "upgrade" as nicely.

Guilty as charged.

Uh... it does. Frequency set aside (it really means nothing), TATE allows for more of the usable screen space to be used (view space larger.... less wallpaper). There's no two ways about it. TATE = better. And playing MAME on an LCD... you at least have the option to emulate low res. The only ports that do this that I'm aware of are the latter half of Sega's Sega Ages series.

Impossible with 240p games from every example I've seen. Most people I know play 360 on an HDTV so these will look like ass whatever they do. Here's hoping it has the appropriate options for using a tate'd CRT as well.

Still great news though.

They'd do well to look at Gunstar Heroes Treasure box - 240p, 480i, 480p, 480p + scanlines...

Good news. I was hoping for Cave 360 port(s) but not from this 5pb company, wonder how they got involved instead of (poor) Arika.
Both ports seems to be still early in development though (20-30% done?).

Nice, Cave getting a bigger audience is great. It won't be enough to make me buy a 360 though. Hopefully the PCB will drop in price so I can pick that up instead ^^

on the contrary to most other collectors i actually think this port will make a small dent in the price of the PCB, it certainly wont drop back down to $300 but might level out at $7-800 for a loose PCB, just a guestimate.

as far as the port goes im pretty indifferent to be honest, i dont really care what console its for, what region it is or how high the quality is, ive been playing these games for years and will continue doing so.. in my cabs.
port or no port i will keep my PCBs regardless.

That's true but just look at Metal Slug 3 on XBLA - doesn't look that bad imo. Btw, even if this will sound like heresy to some...it is very likely that both games are going to be released as XBLA titles and not boxed full price games.
We're talking about MS and the 360 here - if it really gets ported they will try to sell it EVERYWHERE. One of the reasons XBLA exists is to have a (worldwide) distribution channel for smaller and/or more obscure titles.
Great news, pretty surprising. It will be very interesting to see whether the people that started to get into arcade style gaming through XBLA (Geometry Wars, Omega Five) will get the concept of a bullet hell shooter.

Frequency means everything. If you have a 15khz monitor, lo-res vertical games can only be perfectly displayed on a tated screen. You know this, I know this. However, with a 31khz monitor you are upscaling everything. There is no difference in a tated 15" VGA monitor and a yoko-oriented 20" monitor (as long as the aspect ratio is the same). Resolution is the same, screen estate is the same. Tate = non-issue.

Are you kidding? It looks absolutely terrible. The reason for this is that they used some awful 2XSaI like filter.

I like the way Metal Slug 3 looks on XLA. Xevious for XLA looks so good that I see no reason to get the PCB, personally, and I generally like to have the PCBs of my favorite games. As long as you have a Hori stick and a nice tv, you're not missing anything significant, imo, if you stick with the 360 version.

This is beyond fuck-awesome news.

I can't believe all the people here crying about this.. I would say that it's pretty sad but if you've been on "the internet" for over ten years you've come to just expect it. No, it's still sad, actually.

For the uneducated, low-res games can look great on the 360, just as they can in MAME on an LCD with the right settings. Ultimately though, it's up to the developer, but anybody with a 360 can check out the demos for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night or TMNT Arcade with the filtering turned off. Nice, meaty, sharp as knives pixels.. in HD.

That was the first in the series that had all 4 options.
Frequency means everything. If you have a 15khz monitor, lo-res vertical games can only be perfectly displayed on a tated screen. You know this, I know this. Resolution is the same, screen estate is the same. Tate = non-issue.
Two issues:
15khz TATE = perfect aspect ratio.
31khz anything (yoko or tate) = upscaled/line-doubled whatever. If you're playing it in TATE it will look like shit, but you're still using more of the screen. The ratio is the same regardless, but it's bigger. Not having TATE mode is a huge issue. Even the Famitsu article says, "Original arcade ratio fit into matted screen... you need to have a big TV". If it has TATE, despite the fact it's still a turd, it will be a bigger picture. Maybe not a huge issue on 52" and up. On smaller TVs it will be.

Though I prefer playing it on Mame with scanlines I favour the XBLA over the PS2 one at any time.
I really hope they release Ketsui as XBLA with a replay function in order to achieve the same effect Mame did a few years ago when DDP, Dagun and Guwange got emulated - a whole bunch of new and open minded fans.

Low rez games look like crap in high rez unless its Metal Slug 3 port on Xbox 360. But that had the sprites that were redrawn from the PS2 version.

Only way the Ketsui port comes out decent in HD is if they redraw the sprites for that resolution.

Seems to me the only thing HD is good for is Naomi and Type X ports.
