sorry for the gigabump, but I am LOVING this game! its way too hard for me, though. is there some sort of "patch" or something that unlocks everything for you? I can't even get past the stage 2 boss still, I love this game, its story, and especially its music. does anybody have any info about its prequels(radio zonde) story?

by the way, the english hellsinker wiki is horribly incomplete and broken. I'm hoping someone that manages that wiki will see this topic.

No, that would ruin your experience and the journey. For starters, try to reach stage 5 on 1 coin, you should unlock the easier "behind" levels. My preferred route was always 1L>2B>3L for easiest start.

Yeah, Hellsinker is one heck of an experience and if anything, you should slowly chip away at it until you get the hang of it. The Stage 2 BEHIND boss is a bit of the "wall" for when someone is starting out (hell, I still have trouble with that thing) but once you unlock the LEAD stages (beat stage 4 without continuing) you can choose the stages with bosses that you find the easiest for you. If you're not liking the characters with their bizarre gimmicks, once you unlock the LEAD stages you'll also unlock Kagura. Use Kagura - Promised Dawn for the easiest shot-type in the game.

Learning the game is quite a handful and you're sort of expected to be confused but as you play, you'll become more familiar at what exactly does what and the learning experience is enjoyable. Be prepared though, there are 8 stages, with a total of three different final bosses that will pop up depending on the conditions met.

And if you like the music, all I can say is that it gets even better.

um... you can only get to the behind stages once you unlock them. its the lead stages you start out with. I've seen a replay of the full sequence with the behind stages, though.

If i recalled it right , continuing will hurt the terra really bad and the game will kick you to Shrine of farewell before you need it.

you see, the main reason I wanted to unlock everything that way is so I could view a replay of the extra stages. I know full well that I'll never unlock them myself

You're only allowed one continue, I believe. Once you reach (and finish) the Shrine of Farewell, you are not allowed to continue.

Which character are you using? Don't be afraid to bomb if your SOL gauge is 3 or higher. There isn't really a penalty for it unless you're scoring, I believe. Be sure to use Solid State for your bootleg ghost (three autobombs per stage, only activates if your SOL gauge is full and you're hit) and set your Way of Life to Prudently (max lives at 7).

pick 1B>2L>3B, that way you can avoid glorious symbol, to be honest its just how long it takes to beat which is a problem, stick with minogame till you unlock kagura....
with minogame just abuse golden vacuum (level2 sub+main) for invincibility and rotating theater hell (level2 sub) for good damage, also bomb is better then auto-reject is better than miss...

I have been playing hellsinker for a while (a year???) and its just awesome... I use Kagura4 (Xanthez - Anti Bacillus Saber). segment 6 and 7 are the worst for me. Any advice on beating apostles of the seed and rex cavalier with Xanthez????

then just stick with either minogame or deadliar.. stay away from fossilmaiden, she too fast to control and her up close and personal style is a little hard to play...

after running a fullsequence replay of kagura, the background for the game dissappeared!!!
anyone know whats happening...?

I wish I could help but I'm only experienced with Dead Liar and Kagura 2, 3, and 4. People say Dead Liar is one of the harder characters to use, but I can't use Minogame at all.

segment 6 and 7 are the worst for me. Any advice on beating apostles of the seed and rex cavalier with Xanthez????

I decided to give Xanthez a try. I have a fair bit of experience with him so I attempted a Full Sequence Order 1cc and died on the Lv. 2 Final Boss just as I was about 3 seconds away from clearing the game.

I don't really have tips; my run consisted of me sort of "playing by ear" so I managed the situation with the Apostles of the Seed and Rex fairly well since I had plenty of lives beforehand. Rex did kick my ass a lot though, especially at the end during the memory transfer.

I could upload the replay if you want but I'm not sure how useful you would find someone flailing around bullets like an idiot.

i watched a high scoring run 50k spirits with xanthez, just involves point blanking, and most of the time he times out the bosses...
the major problem areas are perpetual calendars flame attack, apostles of the seed speed combo attacks, rex cavalier is not that hard it just pushes me into bullets so i gotta figure out placement well...

I've been trying this whole time and haven't gotten any better. plus I have some replays of the extra stages that I need to watch.

I'm doubtful of that. Figure out what you're doing wrong and try a different approach or try to learn not to make that mistake again. It's one thing to play and flail-dodge, but it's another thing to actually learn the game.

my "personal experience" of this game is that its too damn hard. you're talking to someone who can't 1cc touhou on easy mode.

If you are using a keyboard, change it to a game-pad, that made wonders to my progress on shmuping...

In fact, I cannot imagine any other way of playing Hellsinker than with a game-pad...

Agreed. As a person who personally plays at his peak using a keyboard, I can only play Hellsinker on a gamepad. I can't even clear the game on a keyboard. The lack of a slow-movement button is really a detriment to keyboard players.

Really? I thought distorted always affected bullet speed, even if the rank is unchanged.

Yeah the Level setting in Tuning Dipsw only affects the starting Stella level and its fluctuation range when playing in Segment Location.
