I think the rhythm of button tapping shouldn't be in line with the speed of the level. Its hard going to back to level 1 after going 100mph down the 900m straight.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Good to see you've finally got a game you can be competitive with her.

Mr. Driller is pretty cool imo, except I'm terrible at it. Which games are the best ones? :3

I didn't mind it, but it's missing the voice samples that every other Mr. Driller game has (even the GBA version of MD2). The graphics should have been a little better for an HD title.

What we really need is a Mr. Driller PSP version with all 3 arcade titles - 1, 2, and G. Hell, maybe even throw in the GC DrillLand.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Nice man, keep it up! Try to get a badge on 1000, and work on clearing 2000m! Keep those scores, as the Driller forum / scoreboard is almost up! Keep your eyes peeled here for the URL!

Yes, I've finally done it! I finally got a perfect game on 2000m in Mr. Driller 2.

My score is 2,097,XXX (I don't remember the last 3 digits).

Unfortunately I do NOT have a video of this one as my dvd recorder is on the fritz. I am in the process of getting another one however!

I'm so happy, this was really a bitch to get. I'm going to try to break 2.1 million, but at the same time, I'm going to finally start playing G.

I like my Mr. Driller 2 PCB. Pretty cool and fun. When I finally got a DSlite, I was finally able to try out my new copy of Namco's Mr. Driller: Driller Spirits. A fine port for a fine handheld indeed. ^_~

Playing Fever Mode of the DS Puyo Pop Fever port is quite addicting -- scored 3,131,275 pts. on Level 17 with a playing time of 2 minutes & 46 seconds. ^_~

I know that opinions of Mr. Driller Online are generally pretty poor, but is it worth picking up if you only have the original and don't own any portable systems? I have the DC version, but that's it. Incredibly fun though, although I could never quite finish 5000ft mode (I've made it very close several times :x).

Anyway, I just noticed that 2 and G are in MAME, when did that happen?

That would explain why I never heard the news. :)

Oh well, my computer can't run the original at full speed anyway.

I have XBLA Mr. Driller sitting on my Namco Virtual Arcade disk and have not played it. Did they ever fix the online portion? ...or is there even an online community?

the game isn't worth owning on XBLA, trust me.

I guess it MAY be if all you have is driller 1, but if you can't even beat 5000 ft yet, it's better if you just work on mastering Driller 1 first before going after other games. Driller 1 is great, it's just that it doesn't have enough modes for those of us that have mastered the two that it does contain.

Funny enough, all of the reviews of Driller Online bashed the online portion (which was broken on release), when in reality, anybody that gave a flying fuck about Mr. Driller never played multiplayer anyway. Mr. Driller's multiplayer has always been weak weak weak. It's all about trying to score high on the single player modes, that's where all the depth is. The real reason Driller Online sucks is because it has extremely poor production values. I honestly think it's the exact same as the cell phone version of the game. The graphics are worse than the original on PS1, they took out all the voices, the physics are whack, and it's buggy. Oh, and they made it RIDICULOUSLY easy also. I honestly have nothing good to say about it!

jonny5, the default levels for all the arcade versions are Medium (it should be green text). I haven't noticed a difference in difficulty between 500m and 1000m, but I can tell you that for sure, 2000m is much easier in G than in 2. I guess they decided to make that mode easier since they were adding the North Pole, which was going to challenge the hell out of everybody anyway. It makes the game more balanced.

And guess what everybody, it has been announced that Mr. Driller World is coming out for the wiiware soon, and I'm hoping Namco puts actual effort into it this time around!!

Oh, and I'm finally about to post Driller G scores for you guys to try to beat. I'm posting perfect runs of 500m, 1000m, and 2000m. I'm still working on North Pole, and want to improve a lot before posting a video in that mode! The same goes for space!

Try Zinc for the original Mr. Driller. Zinc's CPU requirements are less than MAME's.

I just got Mr.Driller W on the Wii VC, does anyone know what are the conditions to unlock Usagi? I played North Pole (easy) using Ataru, around 4700m before dying which unlocked the Moon level. I haven't played the Moon level yet but I might be drilled out for today.

The game is still fun, but it seems a bit different. I couldn't really feel any change in gravity or placement of the air capsules as the depth increased on the North Pole level...

edit: OK, it's just Easy mode... air capsules seem more frequent and air consumption might be slower. Also, I got over 2000m on the Moon level using Ataru and this seems to have unlocked Usagi.

Rise from your grave!

Sorry for bumping such an old thread, but I've been playing this a lot lately and finally cleared 1000m on Mr. Driller (Dreamcast). Just wanted to see if anyone else is still playing?

I used to love Mr. Driller. I totally dug it on Dreamcast (no pun intended), and was subsequently bummed when not only did DrillLand not come out in the US, but it wouldn't save properly on a US system even if you got it running!

BTW how is Driller W? Is it pretty much the same as the first couple Driller games?

I didn't play W much. If I was firing up the Wii, I find myself playing Drill Land instead.
