The same is true for someone who's only played FPS. When they try a shmup, they'll get their butt handed to them every single time. They'll have to pratice for quite a bit to get those precise movements down. And it's hard to find a 360 fanboy who will put that much effort into a good shmup. Usually they'll just declare the game to be "stupid" and/or "shallow".
Zah? First person shooters require just as much precision movement. Skills from first person shooters don't transfer over to shooters because the tracking your eyes do is completely different. In a first person shooter you are tracking a few objects and tracing their movements with the cursor. In shooters you're tracking predetermined patterns and moving through gaps. One is controlled by AI or another player and the other is a preset pattern. They're different skill sets and different coordination. Just like I'm sure someone who only plays Cave style shooters will get their asses handed to them the first time they pick up Counter Strike or Quake 3.
Feedback will set you free.
