Clicking this thread, I really thought this would be a parodius game, and I was disappointed, to see that it wasn't. More disappointment followed as noticed it didn't have any of the imagination or the wackiness of the parodius series. Graphics were technically competent, but oversexed characters looked cheap and uninspiring way of cashing into sexually frustrated males- Sure, I love my sexy characters in sexy parodius but there was so much more to like for. But then, I guess all the best konami shmup developers switched to treasure 10 years ago.
So, I will give this one a pass, unless there was something great in the videos as I couldn't bother download them?
But of course it's nice that konami still makes arcade shooters.

Agreed, the style of graphics doesn't suit the atmosphere, seems too technically minded. Music needs changing and if staying polygonal it needs a bit more character and imagination. And I did watch the video, or some of it.. took 2 mins just to start gameplay

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
All right then, according to rigid standards of shmups.com posters, having breasts half bare on white silk tops is not defined 'sexy'.
And why might that be? Maybe because in manga land such outlook on female characters is norm, and normal manga devourers are probably so hardened that this pretty much is not even titillating (I guess girls would need F-sized cups to do that). ok, no problem with that. See? I'm not bitching about nudity in here. You can carry on. Go, go!
I dont really give a shit whether they are semi-naked, half naked or fully leathered up. what pisses me off is the lack of imagination in this game. if it was from any other developer, i would just shrug and carry on. but we're talking about konami, and the name clearly hints of parodius franchise. and with that franchise name comes some certain expectations. Perhaps to some people this is irrelevant, or they won't even notice. More power to you. But I've said my piece, and will say no more.

I agree with you - it's nowhere as good as the old Paro-charm. Then again - it's horizontal, it's by Konami, it's not serious themed. So I still think the positive outweight the negative by a mile.MJR wrote:Clicking this thread, I really thought this would be a parodius game, and I was disappointed, to see that it wasn't. Not really: ending in -us seems more like another homage to Gradius this time.MJR wrote: the name clearly hints of parodius franchise.
How about Keroro Gunsou/Sgt. Frog?Turrican wrote:What else this Yoshizaki Mine/Kannon is famous for?

You can really tell with a picture like this one

"This is not an alien life form! He is an experimental government aircraft!"
Perhaps you think too much, why don't you take a break? I think you deserve it.Ed Oscuro wrote:I think Icycalm wants more bruised men before he can declare it "sexy."
The thing is, I am not annoyed because people find sexy a couple of anime characters which were clearly not designed with the intention of arousing anyone. At the end of the day there are people who find dogs and sheep sexy, etc. etc. To each his own.
But when those people fill up threads on SHOOTING GAMES with their posts regarding their sexual preferences/fantasies/fetishes, etc. then yeah, it can get annoying after a while. Both this thread and the one for Pork are full of stupid comments like that.
I mean I am sure there are other forums out there where people go to talk about their fetishes and whatnot. This place is about the SHMUPS, right?
But hey whatever. I am just sayin'. I don't really give a shit about what gets posted here.

haha, true-true. In times like these, I hang back and remember it could always be worse; so very very worse.icycalm wrote:But when those people fill up threads on SHOOTING GAMES with their posts regarding their sexual preferences/fantasies/fetishes, etc. then yeah, it can get annoying after a while. Besides, the new game discussions usually go back to being pretty technical after the game is finally available....or into amusing developer roasts. Either way, it's not like new data is being held back on the title just 'cause so many "OMG BOOBBSZZ" posts get in the way.
Meh, let the forum play.

Still, a Twinbee mangaka - sorts of cool!
I hope this is the "official" Otomedius thread.
I've been looking at the "Shooting Love 2007" videos from Mirafi on YouTube, and found these location test videos:

Looks cute, looks hard. I like the level design and all the details, and it's interesting how they decided to use racing game sound effects (ha ha, just kidding!).
It seems weird if they utilize the touch panel only for the menus, though. It can be used for more than that, right? I suppose it would be easy to convert to standard selection methods, you know, in case they decided to do a home port for any reason. Any reason at all.

Actually, I heard the touchscreen was also used to pinpoint your charged D-Burst attack, so most likely it might still end up on the Wii, if not due to its price.icepick wrote:I hope this is the "official" Otomedius thread.

More likely because the response time of using an analogue stick to scroll a cursor would be too slow/imprecise?Kiken wrote:Everything seems to pause when its being used. Thanks for posting those vids!
Here's another one; really short:

1up.com posted actually has some impressions posted on their site:

Other then the whole touch the private parts thing (which it seems isn't even madatory), screw Gradius VI; I WANT this game!

That one you posted is so clear! I also think you're right; Maybe Gradius VI was given some free time so that they could present this first. It reminds me of what I've seen and know of Salamander; Gradius V came out, then this, and then maybe we'll see Gradius VI next, and after that... another Otomedius/Parodius/Salamander/"alternative Gradius"? (I wish.)
aiii...1up.com wrote:Otomedius uses a touch screen to let players navigate the game's menus, which include character selection, type selection and level selection. For the perverted out there you can even touch your character's naughty bits to get a "cute" reaction from them (uh, not that we tried or anything).

(It's not that big of a deal, but I also wouldn't miss it if the feature wasn't present.)

DS? ._.1up.com wrote:As for the game's home prospects, we asked Konami's AOU attendant if there was any chance we might see it on DS in the future, but he just laughed and gave us the usual "if the fans demand it" response.
I suppose that would be better than nothing, but... it would be... really nice to have on an appropriately-sized screen, even if it was for the PS3 and I'd have to wait six years to play it. (The fans should nonetheless still demand it.)
Oh, I see now. I just checked the earlier videos, I see how the touchscreen is used in-game now. I agree that the function could possibly be adjusted to make use of a targeting reticle controlled by the joystick; I'm thinking along the lines of Fumiko's special attack in Shikigami no Shiro.sfried wrote:Actually, I heard the touchscreen was also used to pinpoint your charged D-Burst attack, so most likely it might still end up on the Wii, if not due to its price.
Also; I know that the Wii is more powerful than the GCN, but after seeing my friends play so much Wii Sports and WarioWare, I couldn't draw a direct connection to that system and this game at first.

You're probably right, though, and I certainly wouldn't mind it showing up on the Wii.

Below the camera in those videos is the trapdoor containing a spring-loaded glove that punches you in the dick when you grab too many powerups. They wanted to do this in past Parodius games, but had to use Roulette instead because the technology just wasn't there.
This may jeopardize any plans for a port, although anything's possible now with the popularity of Guitar Hero and other accessory games.

I highly doubt that. The game gave the player plenty of time to decide where to place the attack. And to simply move a reticle around a 2D playfield could just as easily done with 8-way digital control.sfried wrote:More likely because the response time of using an analogue stick to scroll a cursor would be too slow/imprecise?Kiken wrote:Everything seems to pause when its being used. My first inclination toward analog was because the effect of pausing the action to "draw" the location heavily reminded me of Okami's Celestial Brush system, which works just fine with an analog stick.
Once again, PS2 port please.

Location test, woo!
Not that I'll ever have a chance to play this though
