First day with this game (on DC) and I fucking love it.
I can make Stage 2 with the Raijin, but I suspect that's just because that ship starts on the easier 'sky carrier' Stage 1. Every time I fight them, I'll send them to their graves!
It's out of the Raijin and the Porchka at the moment, though I'll probably experiment more with the Carmine when I'm a bit more confident about actually surviving.
Oh yeah, and my current highest score is moderate 'yellow numbers' but still not very near a 'red number' at all. I have a feeling, though, that this might be one of those games where going for the high scores also allows one to actually survive, so they're probably both actually the same objective (as with many good shooting games).

not really. To maximize score, you´ll want to milk bosses, for example, while it´s easier to kill them quickly if you just want to survive. Still, learning to score better helps to survive in a way because you need to turn bullets into medals to score, so to maximize score, you need to learn the patterns by heart, and of course by doing that, survival gets a lot easier as well.I have a feeling, though, that this might be one of those games where going for the high scores also allows one to actually survive, so they're probably both actually the same objective
Haven't played for awhile. But reccently I returned to it and today I got a new highscore.
Edge - 22'4842'9289'7050 - Lvl.6 - Carmine
Changed from Raijin to Carmine because of the faster movement. This made me fly into bullets a couple of times but I think it's better for collecting medals. Also the stronger fire power is useful for the last bosses which are still giving me a pretty hard time.
@Eps:
Welcome to the forums. I think Giga Wing can be played pretty intuitive. So you don't have to study the stages to get good scores. I'd reccomend that you play for survival only. All those flashy medals will make you greedy enough that you'll try to collect as many as possible. And while you play for survival you learn the stages anyway. This game is pretty addicting if you always try to beat your old highscore... step by step.
Well at least in my opinion.

inp. for EKMame 0.90, found here ( save as and remove the .mp3,
you have to set the game to difficulty 4 manually or it will go out of sync on stage 2 )
It will look like it gets out of sync on the first stage, but don't worry it's doesn't.
I die two lives very quickly, let's call them intentional suicides

That was a good run and the fact I beated the stage 6 boss without a bomb made me a little proud.
I got to him with with no bombs but still one life in stock. First time I killed him on one credit. Having no bombs and one life still in stock is perfect for your mental status I think. You don't have to bother when to use the bomb and also have a safe feeling because you know you have one more life if you screw. So you can concentrate purely on survival without a distraction... :p
Stranger's fast bullet spam was pretty irritating for me. I need some more practise to stand a good chance against him.

I think that limiting the highscore table to "only" the top ten will motivate less people to start the game then open ended highscore tables.
That's why i went through the entire thread and picked all scores that else wouldn't be listed and made them into this list:
@raiden:
I also put the table into this form, it's just a suggestion and if you don't like it just continue the great work you did before. Otherwise hit the quote button on my post and copy the table into your post.

CPS2 Version
hmm... the colour code don't work in the list.... ?
BTW: I went with the characternames, instead of the ship names. Just in case of Sinnosuke I went with his ship Raijin. Since this name seems to stick better.

thanks for the suggestions, Edge, but I want to keep it the way it is now. I´d have gone with the code format, but prefer the colored numbers.
Regarding the unlimited table: if at some point the number of entries will allow a top-20, I´ll probably change it. As it is now, the scores on 10th place are low enough so everybody who dropped out can get back in with a little effort. It´s supposed to be a teaser to motivate
I know I´ll play the game a lot more seriously once I´ll drop out of the list - which will probably happen pretty soon.

I instantly got better when I shifted to Ruby the other day. Then I come here and see that others are favoring her as well. The thing is: I don't understand why I have improved with her. Usually the advantages of the alternatives is a bit more obvious to me. Perhaps it's this:
(i) her shot is more powerful, it seems
(ii) because it shoots straight up medals fall straight down in a line to you and are not spread all over the screen
(iii) perhaps she's a bit quicker, more fluid in movement? Not sure.
Sorry, I probably should have put these comments in the strategy section.
I'm still struggling with that damn lava boss.

Quick tip's for the lava boss,if your having trouble with the part of the boss that shoots out the blue spread slivers just get close to him then let him fire them one way then shift to other side(this takes persice timing but once you learn to do it it amkes it allot easier). On it's first attack dodge as much as you can then use your sheild focus on the smaller turret's then aim for the main part.
This should really be in strategy,would you like me to go into detail about beating it in the strategy section Professer?

All those are pretty much valid, though her main advantage as far as score goes is her speed (she's the fastest next to the Stranger), which allows her to zoom around and collect more medals. Go figure that somehow my best score is with Stick, of all people, heh heh...though something in the back of my head's telling me that the WR score is a Stuck, for some reason.professor ganson wrote: (i) her shot is more powerful, it seems
