I guess I have to go back to Chaos Field then, although in some people's eyes that might miss the masterpiece mark :P
Kiken wrote:And really, nobody should be complaining about an LE release including a soundtrack CD. That's a fairly practical thing to include.
I agree. I think any complaints have more to do with the ridiculous variety of packages available. 4 different editions on the DCS buyer's guide, which still doesn't differentiate for Yakumo's toss-ins (the DVD and Sega coin) or the SegaDirect editions without the phone card.

icycalm wrote:I guess after almost a decade of flagrant exploitation at the hands of numerous Japanese publishers we have lost all perspective, to the point where a full-page buying guide for the various useless trinkets accompanying a new title doesn't even seem funny to us.

Long gone are the days when a masterpiece like, say, Zero Gunner 2 would simply be released in a CD jewel case, and would suffice.

Enjoy the trinkets y'all.
I could care less about the special gifts and whatnot unless I could sell them at a profit after the release. However, I added this info to our wiki simply because it's information about the game, and it's a frequently asked question in the forums. Therefore it seemed like it belonged in a spot up there with all the other info on the THE page. I figured gamers and collectors would appreciate it here too. We try an document as much info as possible in our wiki at dcs, it's not an obsession over a sega coin, or whatever's in the mystery box, but for the sake of proper and up to date documentation. I don't think this is ridiculous imo.

Jeez dude, I wasn't saying that your documenting the various THE releases was ridiculous. I was saying the various THE releases themselves are ridiculous, as well as the fact that people need a buyer's guide for a single goddamn game!

You are just doing your job as a dedicated... librarian.

Anyway whatever. It's obvious I am alone on this, and moreover I knew this before even posting, so it was a mistake to say anything in the first place. I'll shut up now.

Well, there really are only 2 different releases. Limited and regular. A LE bought at Sega Direct is the same as one bought in a Japanese store.

Yet with each one you get the game disc... I think I'll be opting to receive less crap, for less money.

Right back at the start of the thread, someone said something about Karous and the Wii. I really, REALLY hope it's not an exclusive. Not even sure I'll get a domestic Wii, let alone an import.

Hey, I agree with you, icycalm. It's just weird for people to think about since you're right, we're all used to it by now. It used to be that you'd go to the store, buy your game, come home and play it. Maybe if you bought it shortly after its release they'd say hey, you get a T-shirt with that. Then came the imports, which you have to buy online, and usually you don't even get to try it before you buy it. Then you get the option to pay extra for those extras that you didn't know you were getting, since you can't really walk into the store when the game is released to get them. Then you have to send money through PayPal to some dude in Japan that buys the game for you and sends it to you because a certain place gives out extra extras but only to those in Japan.

Eventually they're going to require some sort of verification, or say "one item per person," so you have to send money to some dude in Japan that gives the money to some Japanese dude that buys the extras to give to him to send to you. I mean the game.

Really, I love soundtracks and posters and everything... but I am really, really looking forward to playing this game. As NCSX say, "Play mechanics at first glom appear routine where the gals blast away at their foes with standard vulcan shots and flit through mazes of enemy shots." I can hardly wait to flit.

I miss the time games came in huges boxes and had manuals and extras the size of Webster's....
But those days are long gone, and while I agree that it's really just the game that counts, bounuses are always fun.
Trek trough the Galaxy on silver wings and play football online.

oooh. That's cool then :p. Sorry about that.

Anyway, it turns out the super special mystery Sega Direct pre-order gift is...a poster!

I think I'll pass on that and get the non sega direct LE version since I'm not keen on having scantily clad kid robots on my wall..... or am I?

Gah! If I hadn't already pre-ordered the LE, I'd totally go for the poster. I have an amazingly low number of cute anime chick posters. Only wallpapers ^_^

...I guess I've got a couple of months to decide if I want to find another metric-sized poster frame or just chunk it on eBay. It took a long time to find the motivation to frame and hang the Under Defeat poster. Ahh, the pitfalls of ordering early.

Edit - Not much of a 500th post :P
