"I believe"

It's not an official announcement on the policy - it's a chat with a journalist.

Be unhappy about it being a possibility. But until MS confirm that's what they're doing and Sony confirm they're not, it's not exactly fair to use it as a stick to beat Xbox with whilst simultaneously waving a PS4 flat with it.

Reading comprehension? His "I believe" obviously refers to the time interval, not to there being mandatory online checks.
But hey, Phil Harrison is only Microsoft's corporate vice president; what he says is hardly official.

That statement is pretty much confirmation that Microsoft is doing it. It's not an official announcement, no, but he does say what the policy is. Could be just testing the water sure, they still deserve all the hate they get just for that.

Seriously, who really gives a flying fuck about all this bullshit. This is a forum that embraces classic gaming, and all the better for it. Fuck Microsoft and Sony and all the crap they're expecting to pitch us, the last gen sucked ass and this one will too.

What he says outside of an official Microsoft press release is very much un-official. We don't know for sure because they clearly haven't decided for sure - otherwise it would have been announced.

Using it as an excuse to post "funny" images and shit about how amazing Sony is going to do is pretty tiresome. Sony's mutterings have indeed been to the contrary but they to are unconfirmed.

Plus the majority of the game-playing public trade their games in all the time and have rudimentary internet enough for an authorisation signal - so why would they care about this? They're always online anyway and don't care about the game once they complete it/get all achievements/the next iteration is released. So even with such a hideous system in place it's hardly doomed to failure.

If there are enough consumers like you who don't understand the ramifications, they'll probably succeed. Persuambly that's what they are banking on.

Like me? FFS I've already said I disagree with the principle, and would never buy a system where I couldn't play the games providing the console isn't broken.

What they are banking on is making money and this scheme, should it even be their policy, really isn't going to hurt them as badly as you think/want. The reason they want to do something about used games is because most of the gaming population don't have a collection - they trade completed games in for money off the new titles. They really don't care if they can't authenticate their game a year after release. They should, but they don't.

I'm sorry, I thought you implied that it didn't matter all that much. Very well then, we are in agreement :)
TransatlanticFoe wrote:most of the gaming population don't have a collection - they trade completed games in for money off the new titles.
But with MS's new system, they'll have less money to spend on new games. As it stands, sellers will only be able to sell games at the low rates that Microsoft's partners are going to offer, and there will be no other way to sell used games. The opposite of a free market economy.

PS.

I wonder what will happen if you haven't connected to the internet for 24 hours? Do you have to send the console to Microsoft's support? :/

"WARNING, this console will self-destruct in 23h, 59m and 59s"

...

"WARNING, this console will self-destruct in 0h, 0m and 1s"

"EXTEND! WARNING, this console will self-destruct in 23h, 59m and 59s"

Nothing quite so dramatic. If they indeed implement this 24h system, then Xbone will simply refuse to boot games if more than 24h have passed since the last time it was online, until you allow it to phone home again.

Yep, that's skykid for you... not even answering the main issue here. If you wanna talk about food go to the "what are you eating" thread... about reading comprehension? make a thread about it.

But answering about your complete lack of arguments about the stuff posted in this thread? Nah, that's for totally uncool guys, not like yourself... better ridiculize and treat everyone that doesn't agree with your views as ignorant at best.

It was my quote he quoted.

For reference, I've nothing against discussion or Friendly's views. He may well be spot on with them too, time will tell - he has his opinions and he is fully entitled to them.

It's the constant Sony fanboy in him ramming this down everyone's throats at every opportunity and in every thread he's in (even the book thread) that’s starting to grate. It's practically spam now.

I'd rather read some more worthwhile discussion.

Friendly's clearly an educated fellow, he has no need to lower himself to repetition or constant image spam.

Peace.

Okay O.Van, you little rogue, you little Jack Terrier you, let's explore your insightful writings in detail and not leave your efforts unfed.
O. Van Bruce wrote:"hurr durr... I don't like what you write, I don't like you being one sided. Shut up or make a ghetto for yourself so we can keep talking about nothing"
Interesting. This seems to infer I don't like someone being 'one-sided', although it's impossible to hold an opinion on anything unless a certain amount of one-sidedness exists, wouldn't you say? For instance, if I declared the Saturn to be superior to the 360 as shmup console, I would be holding a one-sided position to some degree.

Perhaps you've mis-interpreted the general consensus as not liking one-sided opinions. What has actually occurred is a collective who find a high prolificacy of single-topic posts and threads both tedious and highly repetitious in theme, dull and uninspired, biased, and what the internuts these days refers to as "fanboyism". Shmups.org has never really had a token fanboy in the past, so we're exploring new territory here. It's an interesting oil meets water experiment.
O. Van Bruce wrote:What are you? some Nazi?
I don't think so. My mother would be extremely upset if I was.
O. Van Bruce wrote:Get some balls and counter what he says...
:checks between legs: Phew, still there!

"Counter what he says"

Who, Friendly? Counter what exactly? Are you waving a red sash at me? Slapping me across the face with a glove?

What am I supposed to counter?

Friendly's posts are well-informed and tend to be mostly accurate, apart from the odd occasion when he posts something that popped up on an RSS feed that turns out to not be true and then retracts the statement. But for the most part, he's perfectly correct and there is no argument.

You'll need to explain how you would like me to enter some kind of debate with posts that generally consist of snippets of news information or image excerpts. For reference on discussion, debate and conversation, I did enter into an in-depth and highly enjoyable prattle with Jon Ingram a few pages back regarding whether or not Nintendo have done anything to improve console gaming in recent years.

O. Van Bruce wrote:That's why you keep clinging to his fanboyism in order to deny his stuff...
I've rolled this sentence around several times and I really don't get it. I'm "clinging to his fanboyism in order to deny his stuff"

What is this 'stuff' of which you speak? Also, you have just labeled Friendly as a 'fanboy', which could be considered an insult, depending on how one takes it. I suggest you enter into a hot debate with the man as to whether or not this label is justified, whilst eating your Kit Kat.

What THE FUCK DO YOU WANT FROM ME O.VAN, you churlish knave?

The next time you come at me with this stuff you better have your finger on the trigger rookie, because from now on all your base are belong to us. Conglaturation!! on finding a way to enter a whole new thread, but sadly our princess is in another castle. Before one says, "oh dear, you've met with a terrible fate, haven't you," might I suggest you go home and be a family man? And don't even think about getting on your high horse now, because remember, there are guys like you all - over - the - world.

no-one has a counter argument to friendly because we actually agree with him that this xbox1 is probbly going to be garbage.
statements like lol ps4 wins just show how childish and dumb friendly actually is.he doesn't care if a consumer product will be good or not he just wants sony to be percieved as the best console to justify his planned purchases.look at him constantly defending his oouya purchase because it will be able to stream some video when it is meant to be a games console first and foremost.
friendly can win the war for all i care but at the end of the day he will still be a biased poster so therefore his opinion is pretty much worthless.if you can't see why being biased is bad then it is you who has trouble with basic intelligence.
I hardly spend any time on here browsing or posting and i have seen a multitude of people asking him to lighten up on the sony propaganda(some politely, some not so) but he still persists.oh yeah we are the ones with reading comprehension problems

Welp Skykid, The answer is very simple, you know... If you've got nothing to say about the snippets of information filled with fanboyism he puts ON THIS THREAD you can just don't post.

There, easy right? No need to call others fanboyism a nuisance. How about eating a "respect and tolerance" candy from time to time?

"But his fanboyism still annoys me"

Just deal with it. He's entitled to his opinion as long as he expresses it in the right threads. If he does it outside then, use the report button and the mods will do what's needed.

Stop telling me what to do, stop jumping into threads on random whims where you're only a breadth of the information contained one page prior, and start learning to fucking read.

And stop talking to me unless you have something meaningful to say.

Historically, I've generally hated sony. I'd say they're even more dumb than cave are. But I've never gotten the impression that Friendly was a complete "sony fanboy". When I think of a fanboy, I think of someone who raves on about something as if they're the best thing ever and is completely blinded by that things negatives or failings. Friendly is at least able to give sources to back up what he says, and argue his point.

Also skykid, perhaps ignoring things instead of starting an argument in every thread would work out better, hmm?
