Now that I've completed Malicious Rebirth (no-continue run on Normal), my overall impression of it has become a bit more positive. I still think it has some serious flaws, but there is some fun to be had here. I wouldn't recommend it at full price, but if it ever goes on sale for $10 or less, it's definitely worth a shot for those who enjoy arcadey action games. But be warned, the learning curve is ridiculously steep, and doesn't really ease up until after you've beaten the whole game (both story modes). I recommend changing the camera settings to max sensitivity and switching the buttons around to one's liking (default for both are not good at all IMO). I still think the weapon-switch combo system is worthless, and all other weapons other than the fists and the shots are mostly worthless outside of the QTEs too. Some of the powers aren't very useful either. A sequel that is way more focused in its scope and smoother in difficulty has the potential to be a great game.

Based on my experience with the trial version, I found the core of the game very shallow and lacking in challenge (even moreso than Little Big Planet, surprisingly). It looks like a couple of the game's trophies try to address that issue, but none of them look like they'd take much effort to earn. The characters and visuals are quite charming though (way better than LBP in this department), and the game does make some clever use of the Vita's features. I'd consider getting this at a much lower price, since it really doesn't feel like the type of game I'd ever want to touch again after completing it.
