Re: I DID IT
Last night I cleared the first loop of Batsugun special for the first time-- nothing to write home about, but it's a very fun game overall. Made it to the seventh or eighth stage before my credit ended.
Then, today, without any practice whatsoever, I popped in Futari and decided to play a credit of Black Label Maniac-- And cleared!
I literally haven't played Futari (with the exception of one lame 1.5 Maniac credit at Frenetic's Socal meet a couple weeks ago) in months, and I don't think I've ever touched BL Maniac prior to today. Unexpected 1CC = best feeling.

Re: I DID IT
Just cleared Kamui. Kinda weak score (just shy of 20 million), with some hilarious errors, but oh well.
I "felt" that the clear was coming, so I fraps'd the run. I'm trying to upload it, but Youtube is being fucking retarded, and rejected my upload the first time, and asked me to verify my account... but it's still saying "rejected", even after verifying, but their scripts are saying that it's still processing, gah.
EDIT: Got it up, vid here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhKV7HP1 ... e=youtu.be

Re: I DID IT
Hell yeah! First loop of Sengoku Ace is down! Got slaughtered pretty fast in the loop, but it looks sweet. I think this is a pretty good "My First Psikyo". Learned a lot and didn't feel despair like I did with Strikers.
Re: I DID IT
Wow, that's really quick for being able to beat the first loop of a Psikyo game.
I spent a lot more time than that with Dragon Blaze without being able to clear the first loop.

Re: I DID IT
Well, to be fair it really doesn't seem that hard for a Psikyo game. Compared to Strikers it seems like nothing, but I'm thinking maybe I was just approaching that one the wrong way. If you know when to point blank in this one you can slaughter the bosses before things get too dangerous. Like if you start point blanking the final boss the moment he appears, you'll kill him before he can ever fire off a single shot. There's not really any room for mistakes, but once you know what to do it isn't actually all that hard to execute. Aggression seems to be the key.
Re: I DID IT
Congrats on the clear! I should try to do that too.
And you are spot on on the aggression bit. In most Psikyo games speedkilling dangerous stuff is vital, and aggressive mid-close ranged play / point blanking or just plain smart charge shot usage is the way to go. A lot of people just try to dodge everything with their back to the wall and that makes things 1000% more difficult (probably outright impossible in something like Dragon Blaze). Glad that you liked that style!

Re: I DID IT
Thanks! Right now I'm seriously considering doing the loop because I really am enjoying the style of it. Individually in practice mode I can beat all the 2nd loop stages, so if I can learn to minimize bomb usage I might actually be able to do it. It's kind of frustrating though since even one mistake can completely ruin a run.
As for tonight's "I Did It!" I was feeling lazy so I just got the Deathsmiles 2X 1cc. Skipped the EX stuff and just did level one to get the clear out of the way. It was even easier than the Twinbee 3DS clear from last month and that's saying a lot, so I got it on my first half-assed try. I like the game though; I'm amused how ridiculous it is. I may come back to it eventually and try a difficulty more on my level.

Re: I DID IT
Cleared Brave Blade today, putting me one step closer to my "clear all raizing shmups" goal. Remaining targets: Mahou, Shippu, and Soukyuugurentai.
I liked Brave Blade, and I played it with no continues/credit feeding, one or two credits a day. Its a nice way to extend the life of a game that otherwise wouldn't be too difficult, I think. Most of the bosses have some phase where you can recharge your gauge to max. After awhile you just learn exactly when to do that and its relatively easy. I wouldn't call this a classic Raizing game, but its not bad like I was led to believe from some reviews. There's some interesting tradeoffs in using the guard shield, since it has its own much larger hitbox (a small shield that extends around the ship, kind of like Gradius' forcefield in that regard) and losing all your guard barrier because you grazed a bullet means you power-down, leaving you weaker overall. BUT it also allows you to cheese through a difficult pattern if you must... an interesting alternate take on the "autobomb" protection concept.

Not shmup but:
I CLEARED COMBATRIBES
SFC version.
7cc, but I definitely made some good notes of where my trouble spots were. I certainly intend to 1cc this.

Re: I DID IT
Yeah! Mushi Futari BL Original is down! No I'm there with the other 95% of the forum that has cleared it
I swear though SDOJ has caused me to grow a shmup-stache. I've been playing it a lot lately (failing miserably), and when I decided to take a break and go play some Mushi I trashed it on my very first run. The difficulty isn't even comparable. I played DFK tonight too to try to see if I sucked at that one as hard as SDOJ and made it past the laser rings for the very first time ever (with no resources left of course so I got ghosted by midboss 2). I guess playing super hard shit really does improve you, whether you feel like you are successful at it or not.

Re: I DID IT
Not just super hard stuff. I been playing a lot of Mushi Original and Mushi 1.5 Original. Both of which I have cleared now. But after playing those a lot I played some DFK and beat it 3 times in a row for the first time. I guess the fast bullets of Mushi Original are good for overall dodgereflex, esp for Cavedodge.
Also, congrats

That's nuts man, what is your strategy for dealing with the laser rings? Also thanksptoing wrote:Not just super hard stuff. I been playing a lot of Mushi Original and Mushi 1.5 Original. Re: I DID IT
Only dying so often at the laser wheels that I have 1 or ideally 2 lives left.
I have not optimised the area around the wheels at all, but I can usually no miss up to them.
Also I am not playing for score, so I never get the 2nd score-extend. I might try more serious at some point, but yeah, not my fave Cave shmup by a long stretch.

Re: I DID IT
Did a random DOJBL credit for the first time in a long while and reached 2-5 somehow. First time getting there. Yay?
I have played the game for a massive 45 hours though so i wouldn't call this impressive. Nice milepost though. Now, i'm off to neglect this game some more. Looping games too strong.
Score is a whopping 178m! fight me!

YES!!!.. I fucking did it, I cleared fucking Futari for the first and only time ever after months and months and months I finally did it.
... Just kidding. I still lie awake at night taunted by the presence of that game upon my shelf. I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and the nightmares never abate. The visions everlasting as I once again insert more coins to continue.

Since I just beat this one a couple days ago here are my tips on it (for Black Label): I assume you can get to stage 3 midboss NMNB so do that. After that almost the entire game becomes slowly tapping your way from one corner of the screen to the other over and over again while making simple dodges as you do so. You can just laser with Reco the whole time to have tons of slowdown which makes it pretty easy. Also even if you make a stupid mistake like dying with 6 bombs in stock (which I totally did) actually you can still make it through the game so don't worry and just keep plowing through. Just make sure you get the extend in stage 5 after the mid-boss and you can bomb spam Larsa no problem. Seriously though just creep from one corner to the other and try to focus on large bullet canceling enemies and you will take out the game in no time.
Just out of curiosity what games have you 1cc-ed? I personally found Mushihimesama Original 1.5 easier than Futari. From the ones I've done I'd say Deathsmiles II X on level 1 is the easiest Cave clear, followed by SDOJ 360 Shot, then Mushi 1.5, then Futari BL.

Re: I DID IT
I used to play Futari 1.5 and after two incredibly intense stints of trying to beat it (separated by months, hence a lot of relearning was going on) I gave up. I got a 200M 5Boss but imo was never anywhere close to beating it. For every 5 boss there were hundreds of stage 4, stage 5's and worse. Consistency is what stopped me from clearing it. I can't say I ever thought BL was any easier, despite people saying that it is. I always felt that what you gained by having more firepower you lost by there being more bullets.ACSeraph wrote:You can do it bro! I believe in you!DrTrouserPlank wrote:YES!!!.. I reckon that MushiHD is easier by quite a bit, but never completed that either; consistency again.
My clear list for CAVE games on the 360 (which is all I'm really interested in) currently stands at zero. I like triggerheart as well, but never managed to clear that either.

Re: I DID IT
Well for what its worth, Triggerheart was my first 1cc, and it took me almost 5 years to do it (with long breaks of course). The first 1cc is definitely the hardest. My breakthrough came when I started changing my training methods and read through Prometheus' "The Full Extent of the Jam".DrTrouserPlank wrote:I used to play Futari 1.5 and after two incredibly intense stints of trying to beat it (separated by months, hence a lot of relearning was going on) I gave up. My suggestion is to play every day, but only a bit and focus on one game. Do runs in practice mode of the farthest stage you can normally get to without major failures, and then do maybe 3 or 4 full runs with the goal of making it past that stage. If you fail to do it within a few runs I'd give it up for the night and play something else. It gives your brain a chance to process the info and if you're anything like me protects your controller from danger (spent all last night screaming profanities at Sengoku Ace). If you make it past your goal point, then the next day start focusing on learning the next stage. I wouldn't try to learn more than one stage a day because its too much info to process well. After that just keep with your daily practice and a few runs a day, and eventually you'll nail it. Try not to marathon; the frustration just makes you suck more.
Once you get your first major 1cc out of the way other ones start coming easier.

I've cleared it on 360; could not clear it when I brought the PCB afterwards despite playing exactly the difficulty.
