Cool, thanks for the info. Do they think it would be a problem here. I have a Japanese Saturn I use all the time with no troubles. May need to invest in a Japanese Dreamcast and start picking up some of the shooters for it that never came here. Is there alot that didn't get released in the states?pestro87 wrote:@DQ187 Thanks! I use a step down converter for the Voltage but not sure if you really need it.
Side note, just scored a Sealed OG Saga locally for 25 snaps!

Nice get! That game is probably the most fun I've had with a JRPG probably ever. Too bad they never localized the sequel.DQ187 wrote:Cool, thanks for the info. Agreed, that LD-S9 is simply a beauty. And by the looks of it, it found a nice home.

Pretty much everything shmup on Dreamcast is JP only, exceptions are the Giga Wings, Mars Matrix and Gunbird 2. They're all playable via boot disc so a JP DC isn't strictly necessary. I think only Border Down and Zero Gunner 2 remain DC exclusives. Take a look here:DQ187 wrote:Cool, thanks for the info. Do they think it would be a problem here. Funnily enough PS1 Pinobee only exists in this ugly THE BEST!!! GOOD CHOICE!!! version.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Haha, somehow never encountered that particular budget label before. The ketchup red's certainly eye-catching... and "GOOD CHOICE" is an endorsement to rival Sony's "BEST FOR FAMILY" as seen on Klonoa.
I actually do like the later PS2 Konami Dendou Selection reprints, which have reversible covers indistinguishable (AFAIK) from the originals. Pitiful pamphlet manuals, though. TBH I'm always down with the reprints anyway, especially if they add stuff ala ZOE2 & Silent Hill 2. I'm a cheap bastard at heart. Also CD/DVD cases don't trigger my nerd sense like lovely lovely vintage cardboards.
After Kenseiden and a handful of 32X softs, I decided to kick off yet another small (but perfectly formed!) MD addon library with Dennin Aleste.

Really liking this one. Clapping stuff with the DeathFrisbee charge shot satisfies like few Compile weapons I've encountered, more visceral than usual.

The unit was 35,000 yen and came with a Yamaha AC-3 demodulator as well, so I thought it was a pretty good buy

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
pretty good price. I think - unfortunately - that the S9 has the same flawed comb filter as my X9. Did you give it a try already ?

Could the reason for so many films of nineteen-eighties sporting originally mono sound only be the cost of Dolby Stereo licence? So the copies were that cheapier if kept mono, thus mixing the lot in stereo wasn't worth all the necessary effort?

Nice picture, if I say so!

A piece of the horror rock history for sure.
The Hunger made for a good late evening lonlely watching last night - better than Mississippi Mermaid at least - but I must ask why Catherine Deneuve as a femme fatale again. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching her and I'm glad she's in the movies, but she seems too nice for the type, never sinister.
Nonetheless, there's no scarcity of macabre on display here. One nighttime film that has stayed with me for a day and another night.

PS2 looks weary, but it's chipped and the laser's new. Unfortunately, Skate Attack PAL is NOT 60 Hz (I couldn't find this information beforehand, but many of those PS2 Midas releases are and it was cheap, so I took the plunge). This boxart of Tetris Worlds is one of my faves, so I went for it, even though it seems to be considered uncool a game.

Had to quit watching Killing Zoe on TV many years ago for some reason, then lately, reading about cast of Betty Blue, the title brought me back to it and here it is.

I have been intrigued by the dezaemon series for a number of years and got hold of a guide book a while ago. I finally got hold of the SFC version. It is pretty decent and includes a hundred page guide book. I would like to look into the latter versions for the PS1 and Saturn at some stage.

I used to own Dezaemon on the Saturn, and really regret having sold it. Even though there wasn't much I could do with it, it's a really cool tool considering you could and still can share games for it online.

There was a 3rd-party book titled "How to Create Shooter in 7 Days" offered on eBay one time, snagged it many moons ago and it does give sample ideas to create & try out with the PSX version of Dezaemon Plus (even has some cool full-color pics to gloss over). There's one color pic of a kawaii Thunderforce fightercraft worth checking out as a novelity. Makes for a very nice companion piece/addition to the Dezaemon Plus 2-disc set indeed.
From 2000 to 2004 over a four year span, I'd seriously sit down and compose some cool BGMs with the Dezaemon Plus BGM creator (despite it's limitations, some cool music can be created with an intro section that plays only once whereas the latter section will loop endlessly). I'd go back and check to see if it'd gel with the Daioh Gale mini shmup game and it does work well with it easily. I even managed to create a funky 1970's beats loop to chill back with (this really does push the DP BGM creator engine to the max -- developer/publisher Athena would be shocked to learn that this is even possible/doable -- it was through lots of trial & error + experimenting with various user-created music loops to learn that this was even achievable). It's recommended to use the optional PSX mouse when creating your custom DP BGMs for greater ease/versatility as opposed to use the PSX digital D-pad setup (which is slower and cumbersome at best). So yes, I do have my custom DP BGMs saved to several PSX memory cards for posterity/safekeeping -- just need some cool 2-D sprite artwork to gel with the cool BGMs and it'd all work out in the end.
I've noticed that some DP users went the the pre-rendered 2-D sprites route for their overall visual presentation as shown with some shmups in the PSX Dezaemon Kids release. The DP user created shmup titled "Sideways" makes novel use of tate but with a slight twist of the control scheme for a different kind of shmup worth checking out (just for the novelty factor alone).

We had the Shoot 'em Up Construction Kit on the C64 as I recall and a mate at school made a bland but functional Shmup.ryu wrote:I used to own Dezaemon on the Saturn, and really regret having sold it. I think it is pretty cool and some what dedicated to make games for the Saturn these days using it. But the barrier of entry is pretty low so I can see how it would appeal to hobbyists.
The only concern though is losing your data and as such I would recommend either using an Emulator to run the cart or have a device to read the cart/RAM space depending on the version you are using.

Nice to hear that hobbyists put the time in. You can imagine all sorts of competitions to make a decent shmup going on.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:There was a 3rd-party book titled "How to Create Shooter in 7 Days" offered on eBay one time, snagged it many moons ago and it does give sample ideas to create & try out with the PSX version of Dezaemon Plus (even has some cool full-color pics to gloss over). I might play with the music editor but not very likely to spend any time making a shmup with it myself. Very interesting series though all the same.

Let's just say that many late NES Taito games resurfaced locally, all the same week but from a few different sources, which means I slept little thinking if I should / how I could generate $ to pick these up. I sold some rather heavy Saturn/SNES and gathered the $ very quickly... It's absolutely ridiculous/insane how these things were available for pick up locally, none of these cheap mind you. It is not 2007 anymore. The rest of this week:

The CiBs I picked up a few hours ago. I need Samson to fall on my lap for a reasonable price within the next 2 days and I can die happy!
