It's mostly down to the pacing and repetition. The first one is the only one that's sensibly balanced in length with some genuinely impressive stage backgrounds.

2 becomes so boring by the final third it's completely nullifying. Also the strats are simplistic as fuck, which make it even more boring. Believe it or not, once you get a grip on RB1's built in lag and weirdo hit detection, there's a fairly fun (in a 7/10 kinda way) belt scroller in it.

My goal for the new year was to beef up my Shooter and DS collection so I've been picking up quite a few games over the last couple weeks!

Also, just curious if there is a general collection thread? Was going to maybe show my collection. Or at least my shooter collection.

Here's my recent pick ups:

Also just picked up a sweet little Display! 8) it's my second one, my other is for Xenoblade on New 3DS.

I swore that I was done buying Touhou games, but Fairy Wars looked like the best thing since Shoot the Bullet:

Just arrived from Rancor today along with a box of apparently Sake-Flavored Kit Kats (?!)

Edit: tastes like regular white-chocolate Kit Kats, but with a boozy aftertaste.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Nihonshu Kit Kats are said to pair extremely well with Touhou

Nice Konami pickup! I've wanted a copy of that myself for ages. Got distracted by older systems... incidentally picked up the FC port of Road Fighter completely forgetting the AC port on the PS1 disc.

Not that I need much convincing to double dip on nice FC arcade ports. ;3

Its a fan translation. I had bought it on the cheap off ebay and after found this listing on etsy which is the same thing I got. It is a nice little package, the DS case seems to be a cheaper knockoff but it has a nice insert, manual and slipcover. The cart has a nice repro label on it and everything minus the speech is translated to english in game. Only downside i would say is it will only play on a DS or DS Lite, no DSI or 3DS compatibility. Here's a link if you're interested:

Back in the day, I underestimated it. Very few reviews when it got released, I don't know why... It's actually a fantastic shmup, pure Technosoft!

Totally agree! Finally picked this up.recently and love it! Some really unique features to a shooter like the little buttons and switches in levels that change the direction you're headed. And the name always gets a laugh whenever I mention it to anyone so I understand! :P

Cool! Thanks for the heads up!

Also, good call on your DS pickups. This is the right time to be snatching up DS title. Some of them (like Solatorobo) are already on the rise.

FC Gyruss is a really excellent port, tbh. But I got a good deal on the Konami collection, so I went with that.

BTW, I've heard it mentioned a few times that the brothers who founded Rare worked on Gyruss. Could never find it confirmed anywhere though. Maybe somebody has a good source?

I was quite happy with the GBA port of Gyruss found in Arcade Advanced/Classics/Game Collection.

@DQ187 Nice! I'm ~20h in on the JP version of the Dark Spire. Been having a fantastic time with it so far!

I already own the PCB for SSF2X but I was curious of the quality of the DC port and it also has a pretty good Training Mode. I already owned KoF 2001 but it didn't have the spine card, I'll probably go through and sell off my duplicates eventually...

I used to have the SD Macross models in the early 90s, still have the manuals and such but do not know where the models are.

I have been collecting SD since I was I think eleven or twelve years old :D

I had to get hold of these:

Thanks man! :) I've yet to play Dark Spire but I'm looking forward to it!

Nice pick ups by the way! Curious what the best way to go about playing import Dreamcast games. Is it easiest to just get a Japanese Dreamcast?

you can make a boot disc easy enough. Japanese dc's are still cheap though if you'd rather go that way.

@DQ187 Thanks! I have a JP DC. I used to dabble into region bypasses a while back but eventually I got tired of it so now I mostly have JP consoles. But like Immyr said, JP DCs are cheap. I use a step down converter for the Voltage but not sure if you really need it.

I forgot how Simon Says Shattered Soldier can get - the bike stage plays almost like Contra parodying itself!

Like - I think - most folks allowed to watch Duel in the Sun as pre-literate kids (because yay! Western movie), I've kept some powerful memories of it - possibly the most brooding, ardent piece of fiction I was exposed to around that time. Not all memories this lively are safe to revise, but I'm willing to face this one.
For Answer is my first Armored Core for no particular reason other than its being dirt-cheap.

I was taken back. I think I listened to all 3+ hours in one sitting. Sometimes when I cant sleep I'll play this in the background. Nice pick up.

Edit - Best $150 Ive spent in a while. Cheers.
