It's not just overheating. From what I've read, it has a lot to do with the low quality lead-free solder Microsoft used, which gets brittle as the console heats up and cools down again once you turn it off. As soon as cracks develop, you get a RRoD.moozooh wrote:Sounds like a somewhat effective anti-cheating measure, haha.
Although it happens mainly because of overheating, right? So I suppose it's not that bad if the console is properly cooled.

That won't work in RFA. The game actually clocks the time spent playing each game.. leaving the game sitting at the menus won't increase the timer like it does in SNR.Elixir wrote:He left his console on.Kiken wrote:I'm still trying to figure out how he managed to break the 96 hour mark in RFA without at least nailing 50 million in one of the games... or unlocking the Almost Master achievement.
Someone I know, from these forums, who did the same thing with Senko no Ronde and the 100 Hour achievement it has. You know who you are.

How about pausing the game while it's in the middle of a stage? I can't think of anything else. I mean, even I have the 50k achievement. Isn't the 100k achievement close to the WR? Sounds pretty difficult.Kiken wrote:That won't work in RFA. I'm not sure about pausing... I know that watching a replay does not count as game time, though.Elixir wrote: How about pausing the game while it's in the middle of a stage? The WR for Raiden Fighters Jet is just over 200 million. Getting half of that by the end of the game is quite doable. I've come close several times (last time I managed to get 96.8 million), and I haven't even unlocked the 48 hr achievement yet.

I left my 360 on for three consecutive days while getting the 7 Day Survivor achievement in Dead Rising. To be safe, I installed the game to my hard drive.Jockel wrote:Letting my XBOX360 on for a very long time?
That's just asking for a RROD.
No problems. It's probably not super dangerous if you install it so it's not constantly accessing the disk.

it's ok to leave your X360 turned on for long amounts of time, as long as it isn't in a space with blocked airflow, like in a box, or under a blanket.
The RROD is mostly due to temperature changes causing the expanding and contracting around the processor and over time the solder joints may fail, probably also related to how the heat sink is mounted to the board.

Yeah, the problem is the way heat is diverted away from the CPU/GPU. There's a mod somewhere on the net detailing how to improve the airflow inside the console which significantly reduces heat around the chips. This is all academic now anyway with the new consoles (that started to filter into stores as of September last year) that now use chips that run at significantly lower temperatures anyway, but still, might be useful for those with older models that are now out of warranty.

Not overly interesting but I've just noticed that Sega seem to be publishing this in Japan now...
http://sega.jp/cgi-bin/csgame.cgi?hw=8
By the looks of the list they had involvement with the 2 Raidens and Shiki 3 as well.

That is definitely interesting but I don't really care who publishes it as long as it actually gets released.Kron wrote:Not overly interesting but I've just noticed that Sega seem to be publishing this in Japan now...

Looks like DeathSmiles port might get release date in next Famitsu too.adversity1 wrote:If it's a good port, all is forgiven...
Dunno when they're gonna announce the release date but I'm betting they'll advertise in the next Famitsu 360 mag and then maybe do a quick release after that. 5pb sure is releasing a lot of shit at the top of the year...

Probably just wishful thinking.bcass wrote:Where are these rumours coming from that these two games are being reconsidered for XBLA release (as mentioned on NeoGAF)?
As for Feb 19th, that's release date for SO4 and Shooting Love, so I doubt it's real release date for EX aswell. Besides 360 release dates in japan are usually announced 2-3 months in advance, so probably late March at earliest.

Looks like there wasn't any confirmation of that 19th Feb date in latest Famitsu (no Deathsmiles date either), so my doubts about it being real remain.
Btw. there was small interview in the mag with japanese developers that backup 360 in Japan, 5pb among them. One of thing they said is that "...shooting games future will depend on how well dodonpachi and ketsui sell."

Honestly I think CAVE's more modern shmups would sell better, if only because they look better and have more characters .. Futari would sell better than Ketsui, if it was ever ported. IMO.hirounder wrote:Looks like there wasn't any confirmation of that 19th Feb date in latest Famitsu (no Deathsmiles date either), so my doubts about it being real remain.
