Frothing demand increases.
Does "Xbox Live" mean that it will be released for the XBLA, or that it supports XBL?

A Japanese 360, to be exact. Most likely will be region-locked.

Looks like it's confirmed Xbox 360 is shmup heaven this gen.

Never played Cave games before, but is this the type known as bullet hell shooters? According to Famitsu, game development is currently at 60%, with a release in Spring 2009.

Add it to the list of everything else I'm *still* waiting for on XBox 360.

I think it says there in the Famitsu scans that it's XBL compatible, not neccessary implying if it's XBLA or retail release. Btw, is this Cave releasing the game themselves or 5pb doing it?

Well it's obviously regular release, XBL is for 2 player coop and rankings. Interesting thing is Cave is publishing the game themselves...just a guess but does that mean 5pb bought rights for Cave games up to MMP?

i doubt it very much.. but thats some fancy reading-between-the-lines there mate ;)

i think 5PB bought the rights to DDP DOJ and Ketsui fairly cheap and because cave knew they themselves nor arika would ever do a port of the games.
pretty much everything that comes after those is still up for grabs is my guess... (excluding already ported games).

id be surprised to see 5pb publish any more cave games in the future unless
A; DOJ and ketsui are a huge finacial success (extremely unlikeley)
B; 5pb are chums with ikeda, inoue, mihara and the gang (more likeley)
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

I thought the region protection was up to the publishers themselves, i.e. if CAVE wishes they can make it region free and all 360s can play it ?

I will pre-order this as soon as possible.. with that being said... since Cave are handling this port, how many filters do you think they'll slap on the graphics? And a less distressing question, what sort of Arrange Mode do you think they'll include?

There's the possibility this won't be a problem... this is a horizontal game and will be an SD game for an HD system. They could try to scale it up to HD to fit the whole screen which might be a disaster though.

Or, they could sacrifice arcade-perfection and expand the horizontal viewing area, which could be a nice feature, actually. Likely won't happen, though.

IIRC, all 360 games must output at least 720p when it comes to HD resolutions. I have a sinking feeling Cave is relying on the 360's internal scaler to go from around 240p (or worse, 480i) -> 720p, which sounds pretty awful.

I've enjoyed this game too much to ignore a port, even if it turns out to be a bad port. Here's to playing on an SDTV and hoping that it's not.

This news is most excellent. I just hope these 360 ports/conversions start selling so that companies keep on bringing them across - Raiden Fighters Aces seems to have done nothing, sales-wise.

It says there in the Famitsu scans that there will be co-op online. Most likely there will be high score leaderboards and maybe replay sharing. I guess with the capabilities of Live these extras are starting to become the norm standard.

Whoa, didn't see this coming. Death Smiles always appeared as some sort of gem (like Guwange) which only PCB owners would get to play. The online co-op is a good idea, but it's bound to have poor netcode (unless it uses Bomberman Live's netcode, which is pretty good).

I'm buying it regardless.

It's probably up to the publisher more than Cave, but yes they can choose region locking or not on a game by game basis.

But don't underestimate the power of stupidity. I can think of dozens of games that were "certain" to be region-free, and weren't.

I think Futari is more of a possibility. It's older, more popular, and the graphics would cut it.

Also, hah, it seems like the price of Death Smiles PCBs/kits has dropped after this news. 75k BIN for a partial kit on Y!JP right now. You wouldn't see it under 100k a few months ago.

As long as both players have the same seed it should be entirely deterministic and clients won't have to talk too much, though that's only in theory.
