Speakers/headphones are almost always the bottleneck for sound quality in any system. If he's using them for a PC with a dedicated sound card of any kind, that's already good enough.

The Amp is REALLY important......Speakers/headphones are almost always the bottleneck for sound quality in any system.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Got a couple of new Super Famicom games — without needing to sell a kidney, no less.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Nice.
CIB Sparkster's definitely one of those typically kidney-pricey SFC games, sadly. Worth it too. ;3
I've been curious about the SFC Takahashi Meijin games for a while. Hudson-branded stuff in general, really... finally getting into the PC Engine, so I've been enjoying lots of stuff sporting their name.

I actually just got Adventure Island cuz it came extremely cheaply with GS Mikami. Never really been into the series, but supposedly that's the nicest one in it. Soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro as well, though what I've heard so far didn't impress me that much. Second one on SFC departs from the Wonderboy formula and has an overworld and RPG elements.
Sparkster, yeah... took me a loooong time to finally find a decently priced one in nice condition.

You mean, departed from the formula of the first WB? Most WB games departed from the formula of the first game and also have RPG elements.CIT wrote:Second one on SFC departs from the Wonderboy formula and has an overworld and RPG elements.

That depends on what each one searchs for.jonny5 wrote:I dunno. If it were me I'd sell the Buchla and take that $3k or so and put that all into euro. Euro is blowing up like crazy right now and the stuff module makers are putting out these days is insane.
You can have 9U of euro and perform modular suite realtime and that would be awesome.
Or you can have small box of modules and overdub sounds and that would be awesome.
Some people choose best modules for them from different manufactors, some stick just to certain ones, like having Make Noise Shared System or Wiard or Buchla above.

Kevlar-capped according to the seller (I wear steel-capped at work, so it makes for a welcome change).

I got lucky and blagged it for about 8,000¥ (about £50) before shipping etc. Both discs and manual, not a blemish on any of the contents. I'm aware of how much it actually goes for, which is why it's never leaving my side.cj iwakura wrote:You do realize how valuable Empress is now, right? Hundreds. Never parting with my launch copy.
The FP7 EMP is brand-new. Loving it. IIDX is completely different to anything I've ever played, and it'll be a fun journey getting to a decent skill level.

Airlink 100v step-down transformer. Decided it was time I got a proper 100v step-down for all my Japanese kit... most UK step-downs only seem to drop to 110/114v which is fine for US equipment but really isn't that suitable for Japanese consoles.

How's Pop'n Rhythm (Pop'n Music) for the Wii? Neither my kind of a genre (yet), nor do I have any urge to buy any more Wii accessories any time soon, BUT Konami having put its name on the box, I doubt it's no good whatsoever.

I was pretty much into IIDX at one point. Was able to clear some 10s/11s. Bought Empress on release date and it's still flying around here. Never came around buying a dj dao board though. Good stuff.Icarus wrote:RaidenViper wrote:How much did Empress cost you?I got lucky and blagged it for about 8,000¥ (about £50) before shipping etc. Both discs and manual, not a blemish on any of the contents. "Only On PlayStation" now? Then again - stark, budget layout of the lot makes it seem as if that caption made it there by accident.

RoF is long as hell. I didn't like the story much, and the map system is just weird. But the gameplay was really good, and inventive. I'm always torn on buying it again or not.Obiwanshinobi wrote:

Yeah it's long and the arena grinding bits are really tedious. You need to grind and it's probably the best place to do it, but you have to repeat the same fight several times before it unlocks the next stage.
The battle system is ridiculously fun though, once you figure it out - no thanks to the barebones tutorials. Some of the debuffs are cheap as hell though, get poisoned or frozen and you may as well restart the battle.
