The BIG thread of Shmup grievances.
Re: The BIG thread of Shmup grievances.
Only thing I know about SOF-WTN is he doesn't post his fucking runs *shakes fist*. That's a pretty big shmup grievance right there.

They don't all have to be like that, though. Clover-TAC has mastered many games, plays them tons, and is a real nice guy.

I hate the game title 'Muchi Muchi Pork' and every time I read it it makes me want to punch a hentai fan. Then I mockingly say the title in pussy voice and wheeze a little.

What makes Daigo a douchebag? Everything I've seen and heard of the guy makes me think the absolute opposite of him.BAD wrote:Not a fan of environmental hazards, "speed" parts, "kamikaze" ships, or suicide bullets in any shooting game (past or present).

Daigo gave my friend a hi5, he doesn't seem like such a bad guy.
lol
Re: The BIG thread of Shmup grievances.
mesh control, TheSoundofRed: Gave your friend a "hi5?" Surprising. He's overrated, and I don't like his condescending tone in actual spoken Japanese. I just get the impression that no matter what he says to non-Japanese players, they are inferior, and I never liked that. Who knows; maybe he's publicly came out and said that, maybe he hasn't. The fact is, people treat the guy like a God when he is just a man. He's nothing more than a Neo-God to people he could probably give a shit about. There are guys out there who do more for the game scene than he does, and deserve more respect than he does; a lot of them are probably on this site!
As far as the scene goes, I've always liked Valle, Choi, Watson, and Cole since back in the SFA2 days; I feel they deserve more respect than most of the guys you see in the scene now. I'd never do dumb shit like follow them around and film them like these idiots do to Daigo, though. Used-to talk with John Choi and he's a great guy. People say things about Mike Watson, but he's not idealized like Daigo is. And there's some dude I found recently on Youtube that goes by "Desk." This guy is a freak of nature! He does some crazy shit, and I don't know if he's ever fought Daigo (haven't researched it), but it'd be interesting. Not sure if he's just about execution, or if he does more than just "break" games, but nevertheless, he does crazy stuff. I'm hoping he's nothing like Daigo. Only time will tell.
He has a following, but not everybody out there likes Daigo; players are probably just afraid to get static for not liking him...

So basically your reason for calling him a 'douchebag' is: everybody likes him therefore I don't.
You're an ass.

I also like all the OG players from the american scene. They helped make the FGC what it is today and I can show nothing but respect for all of them.BAD wrote:I've always liked Valle, Choi, Watson, and Cole since back in the SFA2 days
The hypocritical point of your post is that all of them come off as arrogant dicks at first glance, especially Watson. I guess when you grow up in the hostile arcade environment of yesteryear, you can't help but be a little rough around the edges.
But as far as Daigo is concerned, I don't speak japanese so I have no idea what his inflection or tone is when he speaks, but from a foreigners perspective he seems relatively soft spoken.
Also, Daigo is now touring Japan and other countries promoting the arcade scenes in those respective territories. He's trying to do everything he can to contribute to the scene in his own way. He's not a god, but he can't be as big of an asshole as Watson

Desk doesn't play in tournaments and doesn't have a scene where he lives. IIRC
He might go to evo this year.

Played lotsa games, got raged by lotsa games
Was happier before I learned that there are powerup attacks in Tengai and Aero Fighters 3
also how crappy are the Aero Fighters 2 routes for scoring, yuck (the apparent randomness of the money drops at the first boss in Aero Fighters 3 is also the bads)
Surprisingly enough, Viper Phase 1 caused me the least grief
woe is me

The kusoru stuff is obviously a joke. Though to be honest he's what made the latest Marvel tournament worth watching.

Re: The BIG thread of Shmup grievances.
paradigm: Correction; I'm not an ass, I'm an asshole. You're doing a great job proving the point I made in the last line of my post, though! By your logic, I would dislike respected players like Valle, Choi, and Cole by default, but I don't.
mesh control: Thanks for the info, man; good to know! Again, it will be interesting. That video where he played against himself nearly made my head explode!
TheSoundofRed: I hear you man, but it's possible you misinterpreted my post. They don't all come off ass arrogant jerks; just that things are said about Watson. It doesn't seem like he denies it, and nobody idealizes him, or gets pissy or defensive or hurt feelings when stuff is said about him (unlike Daigo). Agreed about the arcade scene, though, because it ain't like it is now where people talk shit over phone lines. Back then, we fought in arcades, and that's how shit was handled!
Cellinaire: To each their own, right? There are so many different types of shooters out there. Some players like a steep challenge; me, personally, I play for scoring, but for fun over all else. I grew up on hard-as-nails shooters from the 8 and 16-Bit eras, but I'm not afraid to admit I like easy games! I think it's enjoyable that way, but I'll watch you play the frustrating shooters, haha...
Also, forgot to cite these excellent points Marc and Icarus earlier:
"I respect the scores, but I don't respect players who 1) look down on others, and 2) do nothing to help others improve.
I'm also offended by the fact that I might be a "fucking casual" because I don't grind out results for ten hours a day, and I should "go full shmup" - throwing away my social life, career, and other hobbies/interests - just to satisfy someone's ego trip."
"Five-ten hour sessions are simply out of the question for anyone that has a family or full-time job, but I've been playing Shmups since Konami converted Super Cobra to Intellivision, and I can't be arsed with some asshole that thinks he's a cut above because he has too much time to kill. I actually have a passion for videogaming full stop, and though Shmups are my first love there's simply too much good stuff out there to limit myself to one genre no matter how much play time I may (not) have free."
These are also applicable to the fighting game scene, as well.

Hmm I wonder if it's a coincidence that they're all NA players (including Watson who's known to be a complete dick, yet that conveniently doesn't bother you).BAD wrote:paradigm: Correction; I'm not an ass, I'm an asshole. paradigm: Keep spitting those insults. Kids will follow out of fear of rejection. A man will stand-up for what he believes in (even if it deviates from those around him). There's plenty of good non-American players all over; I just used them for example. Australians, Indians, you name it. And Desk, apparently he's not American from what I hear, so there. Again, as far as Watson goes, he has a reputation like you mentioned. No denying that he has that reputation. Would I want to play beside him? No, I wouldn't. He's not idealized like Daigo is, though. Watch out hanging Daigo's nuts so high; you just might lose your own.

I don't think posting on a forum about how you don't like someone really counts as standing up for your beliefs.BAD wrote:A man will stand-up for what he believes in (even if it deviates from those around him).

I like how a thread that used to be about me complaining about how little people here care about this genre turned into one about scrubs complaining about pros in an entirely different genre. Thanks for proving me right, guys.

What has become of my beautiful thread?
To go "full-Plank" - colloquial - To experience disproportionate levels of frustration as a result of resistance to completing a task. Those who go "full-Plank" very rarely recover.

The other day I had a couple TERRIBLE games of Viper Phase 1
I am so excited, because I came so close to beating my previous highscore. Now with 30K medal madness!
Also, this isn't your thread DTP.
