Finally sat down to watch the s3 premiere with my sister last night. Pretty disappointing, really... it isnt just that Sombra was a non-entity--the entire Crystal Kingdom plotline didn't make sense, and I say that with full knowledge that this is a cartoon/kids' show/etc. It was too muddled to be "about" something, and I couldn't get into it as just an "adventure" episode either. I'm not really sure what was lacking, except that the whole thing seemed unfocused, confused, out-of-the-blue (not in a good way). Also, I didn't buy Twilight's concern at the end that she failed the test. It seemed like they were foisting on Twilight a SUPER literal interpretation of "you must pass this test", ie, "you ALONE with NO HELP must pass this test"... but I don't recall Celestia implying that at all.

Anyway, tl;dr, little disappointing. Here's to Saturday's episode being better.

Haha, awesome.

Really enjoyed today's episode. When one of the Pinkies made that G2/3 or whatever the fuck Pinkie face, I bust out laughing. Looking forward to the rest of this season.

That was ... I want to say interesting, but disturbing seems to be the far more appropriate description.

What baffles me about that site is that some of the guys who upload their "works" there actually seem to be quite talented. There are some more than decent drawing skills on show. What in the world makes them think that the best way to put those skills to use is spending countless hours on creating pictures of Princess Peach getting it on with a Goomba is beyond me, though.

Some very gifted artists were most dedicated to pornographic/obscene settings (rather than merely erotic). Guido Crepax, for example, had a thing for drawing hairy legs.

Well that was a fun episode with another pop-y song. Though I do have to say i was confused by "Emergency Edible Boots". That just sounds way more kinky than it should.

A small pleasure: the latest chapter of my favorite fic has two scenes that I suggested to the author.

Enjoyed the new ep, definitely one of the better CMC episodes.

Also, I love how fast remixes of the Babs Seed song are coming out.

Made a loop out of that scene. Took more editing than I thought it would, but I got it done.

Yeah Mando had a cover up in like 3 hours. I suspect the EW preview of the song probably helped with the speed.

Aaaaugh. This must be the worst episode yet.

Also, Spanish fail: they used the word "compadres", which is masculine; they should have used the feminine form, "comadres".

CMC eps in general aren't really my favorites, but I don't think it was a bad episode by any means. I think Mare Do Well set that bar pretty well.

Aw, man, I love CMC eps outside of season one. I think the characters have really come into their own after stuff like Hearts and Hooves Day.

Clean? Then check this, a dirty version of that pic...

And by "dirty" I obviously mean I added some gritty, halftoned shadows. I think I like the original better.

And it is now the story's cover pic! Buck yeah! 8)

Okay, fillies and gentlecolts, time for your heads to a splode.

Remember the prophecy? "On the longest day of the thousandth year, the stars will aid in her escape."

Now hold on a second, there's something else here! Look at Twilight Sparkle's cutie mark. Maybe she is "the stars". So she "will aid in her escape", but whose escape, and from where? Certainly not Nightmare Moon from her orbital banishment... but Luna's escape from her own jealousy-driven dark side.

The prophecy was about Twilight Sparkle redeeming Luna.

Here's for you, Illyrian.

So, comments the latest episode? It was weird, Trixie caused waaaaay too much trouble to be let off scot-free.

Also: "Saddle Arabia"? How about NO.

It's an okay pun, and yes I know "arabian" is a horse breed, but I don't want my escapist fantasy to remind me of the existence of such a nasty place. What's next, "Horsegadishu?" "Marenobyl"? "Snaffleghanistan"?

I think you're overlooking the thousands of years of culture and history that have always been romanticized. Maybe not Saudi Arabia specifically, but the middle east and arabia in general. Be it 1001 Arabian Nights or something as recent as Lawrence of Arabia, there's a certain charm to the region. Being that MLP is a fantasy setting, it makes sense to tie in a region that has a similar fantasy history and where horses are of cultural significance. I actually quite like that the dignitaries are literally just horses.

As for the episode, I quite liked it. They really stepped up and made Trixie's return significant and frankly kind of evil. I loved the opening being an extended Germlins parody. I loved all the terrified Fluttershy moments. I loved seeing Snips and Snails get abused and have to pull a cart with no wheels. And of course I loved the ending magic tricks. Managed to even fit in gender-swap ponies.

For some reason I couldn't like it myself as much as I did Too Many Pinkies and Bad Apple. Maybe because I was tired while I watched it or something, but it felt like reading a fan-fiction. The way they played Trixie into removing the amulet (*COUGH, MACGUFFIN, COUGH*) was very well done, however. The Empire Strikes Back reference was win, too.

Just chiming in to say the last three episodes have been great. The stories are pretty standard fare, but they've been full of good moments in the writing/animation. I was worried after the mediocre-to-bad Crystal Kingdom eps.

Got my copy of the MLP comic in the mail today. I have to say, I am super-impressed with it so far. The art style works really well, but keeps an air of familiarity. Really like some of the touches added to the paneling as well (the way the panels are separated on one of the pages is pretty cool).

All in all, I'm quite happy with it and look forward to the rest of them
