OMG there's too many to just point at specific :o , though it's probably among the photography and av scenes that you'll find the most criticism, not that they hate HDR but they'll say it's no trivial image processing that'll just work on any content just like that, and most TV sets out there are doing it improper nonsense applying various 'implementations' that range from "ok but display specs lagging behind", to "absurd marketing BS".

My personal opinion on this is that to begin a display with decent specs, properly calibrated, showing non-shit sources, doesn't need any brutal real-time photoshop boost to look good.
Also seriously displays-aside those HDR-boosted things look way more contrasted and colorful than the real world around us, that's kind of ridiculous.
That it has become a primary concern for customers is a problem IMHO, if they want HDR whatever it takes and beyond reason, they're just encouraging the manufacturers laziness to not make actually better, more competent displays.

As someone who's only familiar with the term "HDR" in terms of photography techniques, I have no idea how the concept can possibly apply to a display. Basically HDR is a "recording technique", not a "playback technique", so to speak.
I'm guessing "HDR" as a TV tech is just a buzzword that has absolutely no relation to actual HDR?

It's borrowed I guess, tone-mapping and other algorithms to 'enhance', but yes it is supposed to work with HDR-"recorded" contents.

There's no reason not to buy one now, some are really really good. Just don't do it for their new marketing trap.
The fundamental specs and performance of flat panels are still way more important than all the fancy stuff they add on top (the sugar).
I'm betting the sets and monitors for which 'HDR' isn't a half-baked buy-me-please thing can be counted on one hand and are all either top-of-the-line or some cheaper maybe 'accidentally good' but unnoticed. That's because the whole set must meet a number of technical requirements that aren't easy.

Bio supermarkets, or more precisely their opaque-brown recycled bags for everything.
Now I open my fridge and what do I see ? An ocean of opaque-brown bags.

- Where are the apples ? In an opaque-brown bag.
- Where are the peers ? In an opaque-brown bag.
- Where are the tomatoes ? In an opaque-brown bag.
- Where are the tiny little sprouts ? In an opaque-brown bag.

Jeez, time needed to fetch something in the fridge got buffed by a 3x factor thanks to the opaque-brown bag.
But I guess giving transparency to bags requires some process that are not compatible with the Bio stuffs, so we'll just have to live with it.

Why do you keep them in those bags in your fridge anyway? Why even keep apples and pears in a fridge in the first place? I don't think I've ever seen that anywhere.

Haha, France it is. I dont know actually, fruits are kept in the fridge because we tend to not eat them right away.
And bags are kept in the fridge too, because we would not know what to make of the fruits and vegetables if we removed them from their bags.
I suggest you post a picture of your fridge for us to actually see how things go at your place.

Forums that allow you to edit posts are really handy if you want to go back and add things without filling up a thread with new posts. Like the 1CCs or High Score threads where you just go back and update one post continuously.

Unfortunately people can use it to do bullshit like this and go back and blank out embarrassing or incriminating posts months later (which often makes you look just as bad as the original post): http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=42730

edit: actually I'm a hypocrite and decided to delete some of the nastier, uncalled for personal attacks I made in anger that I am not proud of, I'm a good person, honest

Honestly it wasn't the forum's finest hour either. We were out for blood, angry "torches and pitchforks" style. But in our defense, holy fucking shit were her antics and disingenuous responses irritating. Could we have avoided all that if she had just admitted she was cheating, told her don't do that for score submissions, and ended the thread there? We'll never know.

I suspect part of the communication issue there was she literally didn't think using the pause button as a pseudo-frame advance tool would be seen as cheating (?!).

When composing music and you're not sure if you've just got a clear idea of what you want to do, or if you're actually remembering something you haven't listened to in a long ass time.

When the machine's off, hold the power button down til it beeps twice to reset the display configuration. I think that's right, you may have to look it up.

For clarity, this post is inspired by flaming posts that hijack threads in the Hardware section and annoy the hell out of me, not this thread.

The developers of Yooka Laylee got embroiled in a political mess after dropping a youtuber from their game's voice talent because he was (maybe falsely?) accused of advocating for the alt-right.

Now I can't trust any reviews for this game. Is the gameplay good, or are you just supporting standing up to the alt right? Is the camera bad, or are you just showing solidarity against SJW oppression? Just tell me if the goddamn game is any good!

Then I mention this predicament on a forum whose opinions I normally trust, and the thread devolves into an argument over whether or not the guy really is alt-right. ARGH!

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Yeah I honestly don't understand what the hype for this and Hat in Time is about beyond nostalgia.

To me, that little sub-genre is a best-forgotten relic of the rough early days of 3d-gaming. The 3d side of the medium improved once it grew out of and ditched that formula.

Well he's made racist statements (and persisted pretty hard) by himself, using his personal account. Of course him being a public figure how could the audience ignore the story?
He shot himself in the foot and is even more screwed than PDP at this point, let's say that like the latter he lost the respect of tons of people, and earned the sympathy of a different crowd like the alt-right pos among others at the same time.
The internet being what it is you can guess it'll never be over, thankfully there are plenty of other sources. ^^
