Hope they distribute in the US through Aksys again like with Akai Katana Shin.

I hope the 360 patch happens now. For all versions.

Just saw this on facebook from G.Rev

"Though we had hoped to release the patch this month, unfortunately, those hopes were not answered. It has been pushed back, and we will let you know when we have a confirmed date. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the delay."

It's DDPDOJ all over again :(

Unfortunately their web page does not corroborate the PS3 version.

http://www.risingstargames.com/game.asp ... xe-edition (Only works if you have "Rest of the World" set rather than "The Americas")

The "The Americas" release calendar only shows "Carrier Command: Gaea Mission" for October - nothing else for the rest of 2012.
http://www.risingstargames.com/release-calendar.aspx (Provided "The Americas" is set - hideous URL design by the way, depending on that drop-down (likely cookie))

I wouldn't be too concerned about their websites knowing Rising Star's history with them, guys. Akai Katana had a release date of something like January 1 1800 for a while there and it took about a month or so for all of their games to show up on their site.

The DC version.
In other words: Do not get "Under Defeat HD" if you are looking for an arcade perfect port of the original Naomi "Under Defeat" - the DC "Under Defeat" is still the best version for that.

The reason to get "Under Defeat HD" is the "New Order" (16:9) mode which is a re-arrangement/re-work of the original "Under Defeat" for the widescreen. Unlike "Original 1" mode on "Strikers 1945 II" this rework does not break the game (unless you are looking for arcade perfect play of the Naomi original). Play is different due to the "shortend forward visibility" but most of your fighting occurs on the diagonals anyway. Twinstick is supported but I like to stick to arcade controls. Slowdowns are different from the Naomi version. People used to the original Naomi soundtrack will tend to prefer the original but there is nothing wrong with the "New Order" soundtrack - if you aren't used to the original you may actually prefer the "New Order" soundtrack. In essence treat "Under Defeat HD - New Order" as a new game that is a Naomi "Under Defeat" HD lookalike.

I personally find the "New Order" PS3 version more convenient (as I don't have to haul out the NTSC-J 360 - I'm more likely to haul out the NTSC-J DC these days) as it runs on my NTSC-U PS3. So far I haven't come across any compelling reason to prefer to play "New Order" on the 360. The 360 got the first patch but as of right this moment the PS3 got the latest (i.e. most current) patch. Some people stick to the 360 version because most of G.Rev's other games were developed for the 360. I guess there is the assumption that the 360 is the "principal" development platform and therefore fewer problems are expected compared to the PS3 version. So far this doesn't seem to be the case.

I should hope the 360 patch would be out by the time of the Euro release.

I worry that Aksys will choose not to partner with them again in response to AKS' low sales.

I'm only buying UDHD if it gets a cheaper Western release I can play...decided that $80 isn't worth it for a twinstick arrange mode.

I suspect that it was too costly to set up their own distribution in the NTSC-U region for the release which explains why Rising Star Games asked another publisher like Aksys to use their existing distribution network. It is entirely possible that all the proceeds of the sales to date have gone to Aksys - and worse, depending on the agreement, Rising Star Games may have had to pay them for any shortfall in release costs, which in turn would not bode well for any future North American releases.

Given the currently limited audience that they serve in the NTSC-U region they would be better off to set up as an Amazon Marketplace vendor (with shipping for the entire NTSC-U region) to sell dual-region products (they could ship from their California Office - but maybe there isn't enough volume to warrant somebody's salary).

However given that Rising Star Games "came out" in January as a North American publisher, Microsoft may hold them to doing "proper releases" and not let them get away with a solution like the above.

Did we ever get some solid info on that rumor that Rising Star has cut their ties with Cave since AKS' Western release?

And yeah, I will not be one bit surprised if they close up their US office within the year and go back to being PAL-only.

We need Torisu in this thread to give some answers.

Probably for the same reason Aksys did--their games just don't sell.

Welcome back, Torisu. Hope things aren't going too bad for the company, but I suspect that's not the case.

If there's no way you can release UDHD through Aksys in the States or make the PAL version dual-region, would a digital-only PS3 release for the US be an option? I say PS3, because Sony isn't as restrictive as Microsoft about what they'll allow on their store, and their fees aren't as ridiculous. I don't know how much of a market there would be for it, since the JPN PS3 version is already region-free, but it's worth considering.

It says on their site that all DLC + current patches will be on-disc.

Hey Torisu,

sounds like a great release! Love the fact that it comes with a Soundtrack CD, missed that on Akai Katana. A letter from G.rev? Nice touch, looking forward to it.
I bought every one of your Pal Cave releases...still playing the hell out of Akai Katana which is my favourite. Are there any plans/talks to bring Kokuga (3DS) to the west?

I'm glad you're keeping your head out of the Development forum, Estebang. If you think torisu's lack of forum time is bad I'm sure the response times would drive you batshit real quick.

Do what I did and send emails/Rising Star forum PMs/Facebook. In my experience the response times (if any) are faster.

We're OK! Things are very hectic in the USA, as you might imagine in the first few months of the business.

We have just this minute announced Under Defeat HD Deluxe Edition PS3 for the USA. I can't tell you anything about 360 yet.

And yes, DLC+patches on-disc.

Thank you!! I assume distribution will still be handled through Aksys?

Give Kokuga a serious look, it's the latest project of G-Rev and Hiroshi Iuchi (Ikaruga). With its robust single-card download play, I think it could be a popular multiplayer game. And with the 3DS, there isn't the issue of a region-free version eating into Western sales. I do have to wonder how you haven't heard of it if you're already in contact with G-Rev, though.
