God I haven't fired up Mame in almost 2 years now I think. Could someone graciously provide a step by step guide on how to set this up to play Ketsui please? I'd love to try this out right now.

1.) Go here http://mamedev.org/updates/0140u2_diff.zip
2.) Extract to a folder
3.) In that same folder, make a folder named "roms"
4.) Put your ROMS in that folder
5.) Open mame.exe and play.

How to get the fixed sound, I have no clue. I'm just going to wait until the next release unless someone wants to tell a stupid man how to do it (hint hint).

Thank you, however that link you provided only contains a 0140u2.diff file and no Mame.exe?

Utter rubbish. Please check your facts before polluting the internet with misinformation.

The file you linked to (which can't be hotlinked btw) is a diff file which needs to be applied to the MAME source before compiling. Info on how to do this is here: http://mamedev.org/tools/

0.140u2 is the "Back Label" version. For correct enemy placement you also need the patches from http://www.raidenii.net/

I'm dumb. The real step one is http://www.megaupload.com/?d=44URT23X. That's posted by a fellow a few pages back. That should have the required patches and everything, so if you don't know how to compile (like me, durr), that should be right your up alley.

I probably shouldn't post when I haven't slept in 24 hours

I notice that invulnerability runs out before the next stage has a chance to start. This messes with scoring because it makes it hard to get initial shotguns. Generally, the shield depletes just after chips are being counted.
Oh, and the Stage 1 boss goes immediately into helicopter mode before you can blow off parts.

How often is this happening? INP file or recording would help a lot here.

So I got these running in the cab now at native res. A few minutes of play and I've got to say, if there is any input lag, I can't feel it. And if configured right the video is dead on.

I've owned both these games and I can't believe how solidly these are running. If I didn't know better, I would think they were the PCB's.

I was just saying the other day that the only PCB's I really miss were DOJ and ketsui.....and then I see this! :D

Huge thanks for all the work that has gone into this, and any continued development to improve on what is already mind blowing progress!

Thanks a million guys!

Invulnerability glitch ain't happening now. On a side note, I got hit when the Stage 2 boss had 1 pixel of life left, but I wouldn't call that a glitch. Just me failing at the worst of times :( Oh, and then I keep missing the Stage 3 extend. Whatever. This is great, but I'm going to stay with Progear. I'm not sure Ketsui works with save states, so I can't get better at it quickly enough.

are these PGM changes from raidenii.net the same as Haze posted on his WIP blog? if not, which are better/more complete?

The raiiden.net are more complete: they include the update from Haze along with other changes, such as sound / speed fixes.

Are you sure that's not down to different revisions? There are three you can try out.

This may surprise you, but we and Haze developed those changes independently; they just both did the same thing :P

i'll be honest. Although I had no problems over the weekend patching MAME and getting the games running, I have no idea what to do with the asick72.S stuff even after reading the README file. I'm just trying to get the speed and sound fixed. I thought I was on the right track by downloading the "mingw" compiling files through the mamedev site, but i feel like i've reached my technological plateau.

Oops, sorry for spreading misinformation about Haze and your updates btw, Squidman :|
@mdsfx : if your only wish is to play (and not play with compiling tools and stuff like that), you do not need to try ASick72 : just download the latest working binaries which link have been posted earlier in this thread. If you actually want to toy a bit with the tools, it's a different story.

Nah, it's not a problem, we do owe Haze a lot anyways :)

As Keade said, just download the binaries. That's what they're there for :)

Preferably with no nag screens :)

I've been wrestling with the MAME source trying to get it to compile all day but it just keeps failing on random errors as soon as I start applying diffs.

Ketsui is running almost perfect. Gameplay timing and graphics are just like the PCB, and the music tempo is right. The only catch is that there are some rare sound burps- most notably a 2-5 second rumbling sound that doesn't happen too often.

SquidMan, austere, & nimitz- Great work.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Thanks for all the help, I got Ketsui running perfect on my PC. :) Let me tell you, what a fucking awesome shmup this is, its a crime that this has been un-mamed for this long. I've only played up to stage 2 but man the pacing feels perfect on this. I love the laser latch on mechanic along with the designs of everything.

Quick question, how can I make it so the game doesn't do "game over" after 1 credit? I actually want to progress past stage 2 . Also how can I change the difficulty?

Edit: nevermind figured out the credit and difficulty stuff

Ah thanks, as soon as I posted that I remembered that TAB can access the settings for the PCB.

Back to Ketsui I go. :D

There are actually a ton more audio issues than you'd believe, or I'd prefer to admit. That's the top priority right now, fixing the audio.
And don't forget to give Haze and the other MAMEdev credit, they did a lot of the nice hard work too :)

Because I believe SquidMan, austere, and nimitz did so much for the Shmup fandom and emulation I believe these three gentlemen needs a special title below their names. Mods do it because honest to god they deserve it.

Agreed, special merits should be given to those who helped make this game playable. :)
