I feel this is as a good time as any to dig out this old clip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tyj9VMhE6oI

That said, quite striking car that. Initially just saw the rear of it as I was back tracing through the thread and thought it was a Tesla at first (been seeing quite a few of them around lately), which I guess goes to show how great such a car would fit in parked with cars like that Jaguar and the like. Something most other electrical cars I've seen cannot easily do, but I digress.

Congrats anyhow!

This won't be quite as spectacular as the last few posts, but I'll go anyway.

Decided I'm not going to bother with any new consoles this year, so I went for a video card upgrade in my PC. I paid only a little more for this than I did for my last video card (a GTX 660 Ti) and it blows that one out of the water. This thing outperforms a GTX 780 that even now retails for over $150 more.

got this print at dallas comic-con this weekend. the convention was a huge let down. would have been nice if i was much younger.

Nice. I have a stock 770 in my PC but I don't play most of the newer PC games so I guess the 770 will last me for awhile. Now the 770 should come down in price....

So I picked up this NES game. Kind-of cool playing in Cuba and all:

In comparison to the arcade original, it's kind of a letdown. Just like how the NES versions of Ikari and Victory Road different greatly in overall look and control.

Regardless of how you feel about the game, it's categorically nowhere near as bad as the first two FC Ikaris. :o

Both versions have its strengths and weaknesses. I like the FC version more than the arcade game.

I'm not rich, I wish I was.

I have a fairly average wage for an experienced tech worker (and until recently, underpaid), I'm a team leader for a UNIX admin team. It's all about choices. I didn't choose a house and children, I don't choose expensive clothes (in fact half of them I got from Lordstar) and I didn't choose to buy a brand new car, which allowed me to choose an older but much better one. Fast expensive luxury models lose money like nothing you've seen before. The XFR is 5 years old and already shed $60k of value which the previous owners picked up the tab for...

Guevara Famicom is far superior to the arcade original - practically a different game entirely - faster, leaner, more action packed, ten times more tactical - one of the finest military rampages on any console.

You summed it up beautifully.
The majority of rich people aren't born rich or inherit money. They make the right choices. Slowly but surely, with careful planning, some sacrifice, and prudent investing, real wealth is created.

I get everything apart from the house bit. You rent?

I'm pretty confident mortgages are a sensible. Mine costs exactly half the amount I used to pay while renting each month.

UK house prices are utterly, utterly fucked depending on where you live. Looks like renting will be our only future, every other house around here is a buy-to-let situation. People who have houses buy more houses, just makes it even harder for those without. London commuter town as well as a university city so renting out is easy. The 3 bed semi (well a 2.5 really) we live in is worth over £300k. To buy something we'd have to downsize massively - I'd have no arcade machines, no PCB collection, no film collection, I'd have to store most of the rest of my posessions, and park the car on the road. That or move somewhere else entirely.

I should have skipped university, started work sooner and bought a small flat to get on the ladder before they started going up 20x faster than wages. But I didn't do that, and I have no time machine, so my choices are diminished. I also should have saved in my earlier years instead of spending all my money. I am a bad role model by any measurement of fiscal responsibility. I still know a couple of friends from school. One made all the sensible decisions, he has a family and a house about 20 miles north where prices are much lower. Another is a taxi driver living in a rented flat. We all had rougly the same start and are of roughly the same ability. None of our parents had much money. It's all choices. Even within a family choices can lead to vast disparity, I waste on entertainment more than my sister earns in a year. She lives in a council assisted flat, but then she made much worse choices than even I did.

You're right though, broadly speaking if you can get a mortgage, you should.

^ I see. It's a case of your possessions owning you somewhat!

You're absolutely right, UK house prices are fucked beyond belief. I managed to buy with a disproportionately stupid deposit when the prices dropped slightly shortly after the financial crisis - it was the only way the bank would offer the loan.

It's only an apartment and certainly not big enough to house a collection like yours, and currently I spend 1k+ on yearly storage. But yes, if you can get on the ladder you should, it's the only investment that won't screw you over unless catastrophic circumstances occur.
