Looking forward to "NX"? (aka The Switch Thread)
Re: Looking forward to "NX"?
I don't know about all of this hubbub, but I've been enjoying this thing. No problems thus far, with many hours into the Zelda. Fairly optimistic about the library: Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Dragon Quest 11, Mario Odyssey, Yooka-Laylee (I liked the Banjos) in about the first year ain't all bad.
Re: Looking forward to "NX"?
But as mentioned, Dell too says a few dead/stuck pixels* is normal in a display and telling their customers to deal with it.Xyga wrote:Listen, I'm just talking from experience because from the years I've worked in that line of business managing lines of products such as displays, it was an important part of my job to make sure that sort of thing was clear for everyone involved, us as retailers, our distribution channels, our aftersales, the manufacturer's, the suppliers when involved, etc.
I'm just telling you Nintendo's statement right now is not satisfying in two ways, it's banging the door at the customer's face being borderline dishonest indeed (because dead/stuck pixels ARE a defect) and taking him/her for an idiot by stating it's normal closing all discussion, when it should in place admit the defective nature of dead/stuck pixels and immediately proceed to explain what and to what extent is acceptable within the law/warranty limits.
This is why I took the amazon bleeding backlight statement as an example earlier; it's a similar level of abuse because it is a one-sided position over a false statement, there's a difference between saying "it's normal deal with it" and "it happens and we can refund/replace under the following conditions".
That's all I'm saying.
I'm not trying to hurt Nintendo in any way here, quite the opposite I wish they'll make a smart and honest move on that matter soon.
Rather what's your problem with that ? You're raising a shield up in defense of Nintendo too fast regarding this matter.
They really are at fault, and it's not much work to devise a new page/paragraph honestly.
Nintendo is saying that dead/stuck pixels* in a display is normal and to deal with if it is only a few pixels.
Besides not mentioning the amount of pixels that constitutes a problem, which I've already said is a pretty huge flaw, though not worthy of outrage, I'm really not seeing the huge distinction between those statements. They're both definitely saying to a point that it's normal and to deal with it. Nintendo hasn't specified that point (but I've already said that's not good).
* One of the semantics I think you're arguing is saying they should say the pixels themselves are defect, but this is pretty irrelevant. What matters is if they say the display itself is defect. No one's going to return one pixel to Nintendo and claim it's defect, they're going to take the entire display.
Re: Looking forward to "NX"?
Whatever, if you don't see it we won't agree anyway, let's not fill an entire page with that, I think we're both annoying the readers here lol.

Amazon, Hulu and Netflix are supposedly eventually coming. almost a week after launch and it's the first we hear about any app support for the thing

Re: Looking forward to "NX"?
For those who can't wait a few months for Disgaea 5, some guys claim you can buy a digital version off the Japanese e-shop and it'll have the english options for voice and text.
The same seems to go for the physical card version too. Some of these companies might be taking "region free" pretty seriously.

What's the story on the battery?

Exactly as Nintendo have described. I get about 2.5 hours with Zelda with everything switched on and max brightness.GaijinPunch wrote:What's the story on the battery?
It increases with wifi off and brightness lower.
Charges pretty quickly.
Re: Looking forward to "NX"?
I think even playing with all extra non needed stuff off or turned down it's still just 3 hours.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Switch is really the Vita successor, getting its first 30 FPS of a game that really should be able to run at 60 FPS on the device. I'm talking about I Am Setsuna.

Looks promising - ... but for the time being, still holding out for the next hardware revision (I don't think it's going to take 3 years on this one).

I hadn't been following. I guess these days it's not that hard to charge up. Can you reasonably charge off of one of those batteries that can fill up an iPhone 7 a few times?cools wrote:Exactly as Nintendo have described. Re: Looking forward to "NX"?
Apparently you have to be careful which power bank you choose. The run of the mill power banks don't provide enough voltage/amperage to charge the Switch quickly much less run it at the same time. The power bank has be able to supply 15V/3A to be reasonably useful.

Taking control of the browser / running stuff in the same memory space as the browser would happen pretty quick. I don't think anyone's surprised by that.soprano1 wrote:http://wololo.net/2017/03/11/nintendo-s ... erability/Xyga wrote:I don't even give it until the end of the year before it's cracked and an iso/rom loader pops up.

It isn't really significant.

Jim Sterling gave the new Zelda game a 7/10 and Zelda fans are in an outrage and have launched a DDoS attack on his website.
Did the Zelda fans really not realize we were mocking them for being upset about the 8.8 score?

Re: Looking forward to "NX"?
Digital Foundry just released a previously un-released videocast from October 2016, back when NVIDIA still maintained that the Switch would have a "customised Tegra processor" "based on the same architecture as the world's top-performing GeForce gaming graphics card" - which implied a derivative of the Pascal architecture (right now it pretty much looks like a vanilla X1 (i.e. Maxwell architecture)) which could enabled some interesting features like (docked) SLI graphics).
Digital Foundry: Tegra X1 'Confirmed' For Switch! Plus: Unseen Switch Videocast!
NVIDIA may not have been "lying" at the time - initial plans may have been to use some Pascal derivative but Nintendo may have settled on using a straight-up Tegra X1 because they felt that they could not delay the launch of the Switch (and the concomitant demise of the Wii U) any longer - even if it meant compromising the capabilities of the new launch hardware.
Now given that they increased the production order for the current fiscal year from 8 million to 16 million units a hardware refresh that could improve battery life and/or docked performance is still a bit off - but refreshes typically only occur once the hardware is a proven seller anyway - for example (based on Wikipedia):

Re: Looking forward to "NX"?
Yep it's a vanilla X1. Hopefully they can pull off games running at 60fps without too much dips on it (althought I won't hold my breath : modern console gaming is notoriously bad at this).
Speaking of Digital Foundry : just watched their Retro episode on Blaster Master and I gotta say, Blaster Master Zero looks dope. If I end up picking up a switch I will definitely get that!

Blaster Master Zero is also on 3DS. No 3D, but it plays great on the system. No need to get a Switch to play it.

Oh! Didn't know this.
Oh well, I don't have a 3Ds either
besides, I'm not a portable guy, I don't enjoy gaming that way. I need to play on da couch with a controller and on the TV (which is too bad since there's a bunch of RPG's I'd like to play on it).

What's so surprising/exciting about a Japan only game being released on the Japanese virtual console? I don't get it.

This is why Nintendo just hacked romhacking.net, they're going to sell us all the patches.
