I missed the comment section. I would like to order the gcomp as well. How will that work for combined shipping?

Just curious but do you keep a revision log somewhere of the changes between versions? I noticed the gcomp is now on 1.1 and was wondering what changes were made.

So... I should just wait a week or so before putting in an order? I also want both the gscartsw lite and gcompsw.

Regarding import tax, are you able to mark the value of the package down at all?
I mark $100 per package, that's what I get from insurance if the package is lost.

Awesome That helps, also (I dont know about other countries) , but are you also able to fill out the customs form and put the device
as a certain code ?

Categorizing the switch as a certain type of equipment seems to change the import duty %

https://www.gov.uk/trade-tariff/commodities/8525500000

What I cant seem to work out: Do the customs dept add 20% VAT and THEN the import duty % on top of that? , or is only one applied depending on the commodity code?

(I suspect Matt fro VGP might know this, but I dont know if hes following this thread)

I'd also like to order both the lite and gcomp switches and get combined postage. Should I order the lite now and write in the comments about the gcomp? Or wait til gcomp goes on sale next week and write about the lite in the comments? Thanks a lot SuperG, I know this is probably a stressful time for you.

Whatever you order the second time - mention it there.

Can any member let me know what brand of component-to-component cable they are using with the gcompsw?

And, stupid question, but I assume I can just hook this straight into my Frame Meister using the D-Sub adaper cable I got with it? Currently, its a pain having to switch out the PS2/wii/Xbox etc.

D-Sub is VGA, do you refer to VGA?

The Framemeister uses two adapters: D-Terminal for component video, and a mini-din for RGB. He probably means D-Terminal.

D-Terminal to XRGB-Mini yes, I use that as well.

It's a separate tax and it is applied on the base value of the merchandise (without shipping and without VAT). It's applied depending on the commodity code. Some commodities are duty free, other commodities are duty free if the value is under a certain threshold (in Finland the threshold is 150 euros) and then there are commodities that will always have import duty applied regardless of value (tobacco, alcohol).

In Norway the threshold is 37 euros, and that includes the cost of shipping...

If you use the D-Terminal to component adapter. I recommend getting 3 RCA male to male adapters so you don't have to run an extra length of component cable.

As for brand of component cable. I've been super happy with monoprice 22awg "premium" rca audio cable to complement the adapted d-terminal. The RCA jacks on there are super grippy.

I just recently ran my gcompsw to a garo to a gscart 3.4 so I never have to futz with the framemeister input source. Works well except the existing 5-jack rca cable I had sitting around loses grip on the garo's audio ports. Getting a 5-port 18awg "premuim" cable from monoprice that has the grippy connectors to solve that problem.

Import duty =/= VAT. Import duty is another tax that they can slap on merchandise coming outside the EU.

For the record, VAT threshold is 22 euros here including shipping.

The VAT limit is £39 if its marked as a "gift", otherwise its only £15:-
https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty
Everything I have purchased from the US in recent years has had a charge applied, which also includes an additional £8 charge for the Royal Mail handling fee :(
Dont forget its also possible to hit the £135 customs duty limit as well.

Ahh, there you have it. The limit is £135.

So if gscartw_lites are declared at 100 bucks plus shipping ($35), that means you UK guys will only have to pay 20% VAT and the handling fee.

EDIT: also, I incorrectly previously stated that VAT and customs duty are separately charged. Now I see they're not. In fact VAT is added on top of duty, which in turn is charged on the price paid for the goods and shipping :?

Reminds me a lot of when I do commissioned render art for companies in the UK. When they wire my fee to my bank account, there's a half-dozen different transfer fees and 'hands dipping into the pot' before the money arrives electronically in my account. There's a fee charged for the act of them sending the transfer, a fee charge for it crossing the ocean from their end, a fee charged for it coming in from the ocean on my end, a fee for it traveling from the coast to my bank, and a fee for my bank accepting it. Keep in mind no physical money is being actually moved from point A to point B, but banks like to pretend they are hand-carrying it so they can tack on all these fees.

It cost me a lot in import fees (more than £20) when I bought the gscartsw... Compounded by the fact that the post office adds an £8 handling fee for the duty not being pre-paid.

Hope there is a way dont get stung like that again for the lite.

Hopefully any low pass filtering is toggleable. I'm definitely going to daisy chain my gscartsw 3.4 to the lite. I'd hate to filter twice.

Hey SuperG,

I am looking to utilize my gcompsw for two different purposes. One will be for gaming, but another will be for switching composite video from my VCR and Laserdisc. Will these composite signals be converted and output as YPbPr on the gcompsw? Or will I have to utilize the composite out terminal to access these signals?

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, so sounds like its worth investigating pre-paying the import duty (and chance not to give Royal mail more £ I'll grab)

I'd guess I'd need to know roughly when it was due to hit customs, and the category to assign it, I assume there is an online form to complete somewhere

No conversion is performed, you will have to utilize the yellow output connector.
