Haha I kid, I just don't like 1944 and those laser tanks are pissing me off.

On a more serious note, some of the worsts I can recall:

Eight Forces(imbalanced as hell, no matching characters/characters with similar stats on both 1p/2p side seems really stupid)

Skull Fang(adjustable speed makes this game horribly unmanageable)

Ghost Pilots(hugeass hitbox, bland as hell, definitely a crappy one a lot of people know about)

Sol Divide(despite it not being a "shooter" lol)

Protothea(I dont even want to get into this one)

Xexex(this game just pesses me off to no end and surprises me about making it into STGT at one point. If I had to play it though, jp version > u.s. version I really hate that vague lifebar-based bullshit)

Vapor Trail(this game would've been much better if it didn't use the same god damn music track for the first 5 stages, a unique track for the final stage, and then back to the same track when the game loops. I can't stand listening to the same theme over and over again.)

Well, when you consider that 1942 uses a unique track for the boss battles and another unique track for the end of the percent and point up stages but also uses the same
drum-and-whistle track for all 32 stages... the same track for 5 stages isn't that bad.

If I recall correctly, no matching characters with similar abilities also shows up in Aero Fighters.

okay so I checked Tail Spin on youtube and eventually you can have more than one shot on screen at a time. maybe at that point it's not so bad.
but it's still pretty bad.

the atari st port of 1943. biggest ever disappointment in gaming, saved up pocket money for weeks too. so mad i hacked it (ok i loaded in the .PI1 data files to degas elite) and changed the bullet graphics to flying turds.

Tokio (Scramble Formation) is starting to make my list of worst shmups I've ever played.

An annoyingly large linear formation in order to have both shots and bombs firing, shot formation has no bombs, bomb formation has no shots, jerky scrolling in the sky sections with clouds, and sometimes the enemy aerial ship squadrons stay around to attack while other times they just scatter off the screen.

Iridion 3D is my current worst. It had so much potential - great graphics and sound, but the gameplay is, in a word, sloppy. I have no idea where the hell my hitbox is, and all the weapons are functionally identical. Not so fun.

Yeh Bananamatic was the reason I seriously got into God Hand all last spring before my return to SHMUPs. Every time I think about God Hand I'm motivated to play it again and just kick merciless amounts of ass, but that game really likes to kick YOUR ass back to last year

Konami shooters: I still have issues with Gradius V (which isn't just Konami, it's actually Treasure developed game) but I rather liked their vertical shooter Ajax. Though I never got past the third stage of Ajax, I thought it was a competent enough game with great graphics and a soundtrack with catchy tunes. (I still still hum the first stage and third stage music note for note even though it's been more almost 13 years since I last played Ajax.)

I played Retro Force before and that is, well, just a below average game. I was pretty much an obsessive fanboy of that game that you HATE the most.

The thing is, I was immediately obsessed in that game back in March '99, when I was 8 years old and bought my very first issue of PlayStation Zone CD Vol. 4, that included a demo disc with a playable demo of that Psygnosis shmup that everybody hates, including you guys. It also included a review in which the mag scored this game a 77 out of 100, which is pretty much the only highest score to date, as pretty much other mags like the OPM's for instance, have universally panned it.

The one and only element of the game that sucked me into, is this Emo-look-alike bitch called Paris Tetsuo, which I fell in love with her (which I regreted ever since.) and pretty much kissed her on screen all the time until my mom ripped out the page of the review and threw it into the garbage, in which I kissed her the most. (I even regreted also.) That was on..... Mid April I think, can't really remember. And I was crying so horribly, like in a movie, in which you lose your girlfriend when you see her die after being shot or impaled by a badguy.

In 2006, I pretty much downloaded the ISO of the game at some Rom site, which I can't say, but since I really wanted to learn more about the game and Paris, who was the element, that sucked me into the game; I bought a real copy of the game at Andrä (the one in Dortmund) for IDK, €5 I think, I can't really remember. That was in Early 2007.

And from 2007 to 2010, I had ton of fun with it until 2010, when I came across some better shumps like Raystorm, R-Type Delta and Einhänder, and I also played Space Channel 5, which somehow changes my mind towards RF and realize that this is a very lackluster, generic and totally lifeless game, that offers nothing.

And while realizing, I compared Paris to Ulala from Space Channel 5, and to my surprise, I realize that Paris is very very lackluster, dull and very lifeless compared to Ulala, who actually has much more life and personality, and I totally prefer her much nowadays than Paris.

And with that said, I honestly dislike this game nowadays, as I have realized, of how lackluster, lifeless and dull this game really is, with lack of replay value, no unique plot and very static, dull and lifeless characters.

So this game does get a thumbs down, if not a serious thumbs down, as this game is just below average.

I for one used to have a Reco of Mushihime-sama Futari desktop wallpaper. It was like cheating on all my true video game heroines as I don't care much for Mushihime-sama, but she was irresistible like that. When I was looking at her, even some random stuff somebody on the radio was talking about shoveling snow seemed awesome. If my job was firing people, I would have a Reco wallpaper in my office to make them feel better about it.

And yes, it's PAL only, which means it was only released in Europe, India, Israel, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
