New Age guitar sounds. Very soothing, don't listen while driving.

Bittersweet knowing this is the last album that Darren King will be on, and the first album that Roy is not touring on. But goodness is their lead single with music video just on fire. They are one of the most talented bands out there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQwUMtqW5Oc&t=0s War is just on fire!

I'm currently giving lots of listens to Obituary's The End Complete.

I am floored...

I didn't know them much beforehand. This is seriously fucking impressive stuff.
They are pegged as a death metal band and I'm not that much into that sound (which is why they haven't been on my radar) although I do enjoy some oldschool death metal. But to be honest, death metal seems like the less present sound in the melting pot that is their sound. The other two main sounds are trash metal and sludge metal, and in my opinion these two are both more present in the mix than the typical death metal sound.

John Tardy is one of the very best vocalists in all of metal in my books. His shout/growl assault is authoritative and invokes doom to an astounding level. There's a fuck ton of depth in his voice despite it being raunchy and on the higher-pitched end of the spectrum. The most depth I have ever heard in that type of vocals, actually. It is extremely impressive to hear that much depth in that vocal timbre

Their guitar sound is stupendous... sludgy yet it cuts through. Being a huge trash metal fan I had always thought that dry, crunchy guitar tones were king for trash riffs. Welp, I was wrong. Obituary's guitar sound works extremely well for the trash passages, surprisingly, as well as also being excellent for the numerous sludgy parts. This is a feat that swedish band Entombed has also accomplished, their guitar sound is very similar (althought not an exact copy. They both have their own distinct flavour. Entombed's Left Hand Path is an album I adore BTW).

Just a straight up masterpiece, which happens to fit my taste in metal to a tee. I'm just so glad I discovered them(shout out to my buddy Alex), this is what music is all about to me. Now I'm hype af! haha

Yeah I listened to it too, it's excellent as well! The End Complete does it even more for me though.

Every new track Gary Numan has been releasing these last weeks has been consistently great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fM265RXVxLw

To be fair, he doesn't have a lot of variation in his sound, and often ends up repeating entire structures from older material, but I don't really care that much, considering how rare it is for musicians to be going this strong so many decades after they originally broke through.

morning after the Marduk gig

They were awesome, but Incantation which played right before them, stole the show.
Extremely impressed by them, tons of sloooooooow ass sludgy riffs that sounded like the fucking apocalypse was coming, they really master those. amazingly these were coupled with many faster beats of various tempos, all the way up to blast beats, in the same song(!). And somehow they make it work. LOTS of different beats per tune but they find a way to make it all cohesive. transisions were seemless and smooth, too. Great fucking songwriting

Tired concept, but the music is delicious.

This new EP is amazing. I was honestly quite disappointed by Uncanny Valley. It's not bad, and it even has some really awesome tracks, but all the best parts of it just feels like a complete rehash of Dangerous Days, utilizing the exact same sounds. By taking a lot of IDM influence (and even a tiny bit of EBM) on this new EP, it changes his sound up completely, in a way that really suits his style, while also retaining the silly retro-80s synth leads that put him on the map in the first place.

Very relieved to see he's willing to go in "new" directions after that previous release. Already ordered the CD version of this EP from Blood Music. I'm gonna skip on the vinyl though, due to the ridiculous shipping prices.
