Yeah that sucks, but going into a wheelie immediately after was a really bad idea. You go flying when someone bumps you while you're doing that. (Note this is Mario Kart Wii we're talking about here, you can do wheelies manually. Also note that Mario Kart Wii is a big pile of crap and I hate it)

Edit: I've changed my mind about MK Wii .. as long as you stick to the inward drift bikes and time trial, it's pretty fun. The airborne physics are still way too random and bouncy, though. Grand Prix mode is fucking hell with 3 blue shells/pow blocks/lightning per lap, it's just absurd.

Wii U's a good console for me, considering I skipped the original Wii, and played PC and X360 for years. I enjoyed tons of shmups on the x360 - and loved it. But missed quite a few good shmups on the Wii and now after all these years i can go back and visit them for a very cheap price off of amazon. Through of course, the backwards compatible Wii mode. Shikigami III is fantastic and a bit difficult at the moment.

I'm loving Hyrule Warriors at the moment as well. As a KoTecmo Warriors/Orochi/Gundam series fan, a Zelda twist will be a blast.

Hadn't thought about how I can play Shiki III on my Wii U. Huge thanks for that post, Throwdown!

Was it confirmed that the upcoming Gamecube controller adapter can be used with original Wii games that support them?

I'm currently thinking about getting a WiiU, there are quite a few good games out there which I really want to play.
Just some quick questions:
  • What kind of power adapter is the WiiU using? Is it the same one like the Wii?
  • I'm thinking about buying a Japanese model but I don't really want to use a voltage converter, can I use a German power adapter and use it on my Japanese WiiU?
  • What is the online gaming like? I remember that Nintendo used some long codes back in the Wii days, did they "fixed" that?
Thanks in advance,
regards

The tournament codes are still around .. you don't need them unless you want to join a custom tournament.

I see some stores still have the white console variant (albeit as the Skylanders bundle)...is this just the 8GB model repackaged, or did they finally up these to 32GB as well?

Also, is the storage limit thing still an issue? I haven't heard many people grumbling about it as of late.
I know you can add an external hard drive, but that sort of seems to take away from the console IMO.

All of the white consoles are 8gb. The storage limit really depends on how much you buy from the eshop. If you plan on picking up a few games and don't want to plug in an external hdd then you're going to run out of room really quick. If you're just going to be playing retail games then you should be fine. You can always just use a thumb drive if you're worried about clutter.

Yeah I suppose.
I dunno, I just like the overall appearance of the white console and controller more.
Black is just boring to me.

Can't wait to see Pokken Fighters at EVO.

The MK8 DLC is pretty cool. I can't believe that some people are complaining about paying $12 for 16 new tracks in a racing game - never mind all of the other stuff that comes with it (6 new characters, karts, probably music, etc). It's as if people have been conditioned to blindly hate DLC without thinking about what's being offered.

In other news, Miyamoto sez that casual gamers are pathetic:
Miyamoto wrote:"[These are] the sort of people who, for example, might want to watch a movie. They might want to go to Disneyland," he said.

"Their attitude is, 'okay, I am the customer. You are supposed to entertain me.' It's kind of a passive attitude they're taking, and to me it's kind of a pathetic thing. They do not know how interesting it is if you move one step further and try to challenge yourself [with more advanced games]."
Funny comment coming from somebody who's synonymous with Nintendo.

The Bayonetta 2 Nintendo Direct is going to start in a few minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwGD4WbAppo

edit: Yep, it looks like Bayonetta 2. I haven't been paying attention to the previews, but I think they only showed a couple of new things: another Nintendo outfit and a new playable character for the tag missions.
Spoiler
The new outfit was based on Fox McCloud, complete with Arwing pistols and a fox tail and ears; and the new character was Rodin, who has a slower, more deliberate moveset than Bayonetta/Jeanne
The game looks great, but I'm not sold on the online co-op mode. It looks exactly like the tag missions in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and NG3, and those were mostly trash. Then again, even the worst team at Platinum is more talented than post-Itagaki Team Ninja, so I suppose it could be decent. But I still hope that you'll be able to play all of the missions offline by yourself.

Question for those who own Wonderful 101.

Can you turn the battle voices off? Like all the racket they make while fighting?

You've been able to do that, since Vanquish, but I just thought I would make sure. I don't want to suffer a migraine.

The Wii U received a surprise release of Wild Guns to Virtual Console in the US. I wonder if this will lead to a dip in cart prices.

It's been emulated on PC for decades, I doubt it will have any effect.

Never mind, I forgot it was already on the original Wii's VC. The only advantage here is being able to use Wii U controllers and the added emulator features. If you own the original download, you can pay $1 for the Wii U version, as per all VC games with a presence on both stores.

Official downloadable re-releases usually have more of an impact on the collector's market than unsanctioned emulation, though.

You can turn voices off. It affects the cutscenes as well, though.

It sold less than the 360 version of Bayonetta. At least it didn't do as badly as The Wonderful 101 (~6,000 opening week). :(

Man, there's no justice in the world :(
Can't wait for the release next month, especially with that enhanced port of the first game giving me an excuse to put off playing the 360 copy I barely played :P

Speaking of which I really need to do a serious playthrough of W101; I've played to the point where I unlocked wonder yellow, I absolutely loved the game all the way despite the glitchiness, but for some reason I suddenly stopped playing. Probably gonna delete my save at some point and start over.

Kamiya's games are like Yagawa's dong; the unworthy masses hate it because it's constantly rock-hard and causes unbearable pain at first, but once you get used to it and accept it, the pleasure from it is orgasmic, satisfying, meaty, and like nothing else.

I had no problems at all doing so. Didn't try the touch control method, but the standard configuration works just fine.

Controls like a dream with the Wii U Pro controller, possibly even better than using a 360 pad. Just had to switch over to Type B control configuration though as I need both the evade & Lock-on button on the the right hand side to effectively use dodge-offset.

Ran through the demo several times and first thing that really jumps out is how much more colouful and vibrant it is compared to the first game. There is a fair amount of aliasing (I assume its 720p) but it looks and runs really nice.

Can't wait to play the game in its entirety.
